CLEVELAND -- Kerry Wood's comeback has hit a snag. Maybe even a season-ending one for the Chicago Cubs right-hander.

Wood, who has made just four starts following shoulder surgery, said Wednesday that he's concerned that he might not be able to pitch again this year.

"With each passing day, I get more and more doubts," Wood said. "But I have to keep going and try to get through this."

On Tuesday, Wood experienced fatigue during the late stages of a 70-pitch simulated game at Jacobs Field. It was a significant setback because the club had hoped to have him back for a start this weekend.

He's eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list on Thursday, but it now looks like that will be delayed and there's currently no timetable for him to throw again.

Wood said doctors have told him that his shoulder is structurally sound.

"They're pretty sure there isn't any damage," he said

shock and awe

White Sox winner. 33 runs in two games. Can't wait for tomorrow when we face a pitcher that hasn't made a start all year!

Bo Jr!

Another BJ save...and he wasn't even pitching with his best stuff. Good thing Marcus "Mendoza" Giles was batting to GIDP.

I was kinda afraid there for a second til Giles came up and hit in the double play.

Burnett goes tommorrow, he has had two dominating rehab starts but even then I can't get rid of the feeling that he is going to get injured again. Also we are going to find some sort of way to lose tommorrow as we do not believe in sweeping teams.

Wagner sucks ass. This guy can't pitch for shit.

Yeah well...

/me bangs head on desk

At least everyone in our division lost tonight... Thank you to all the victors that made that possible.

Would have been sweeter only if... :(

One more thing... Kudos to Jose. We love ya

I hate to say it but the inning would have been over had Wright charged that ball and gunned it to 1st. Rich Aurilia is not a fast runner,Wright could have had him with a decent throw. I can see why he decided to play conservative though-a bad throw and the runner comes home to score. Its a price you pay I guess.

That said its no excuse though. Wagner left one up over the plate with an 0-2 count. This loss ****ing hurts.

But the Yanks and BlueJays bailed the Mets out. Props to both the Yankees and BlueJays. No ground lost tonight.

And I'm debating to keep this game or not(recorded through my tv card on my PC.) Reyes hits for a cycle which is damn cool, but this game's ending blows. What to do....

Torre baffles me. You bitch that the the bullpen needs rest, but you use 4 pitchers (including our closer in a non-closing situation) in a game where the phillies couldnt hit the ****ing wind?????

torre-j.jpg

"Bring in Scott Proctor!"

Wright should have never had to make that play, Wagner shouldn't have walked the next two batters. I'll admit Wright messed up because he charged the ball, when it may have gone foul, this handcuffed him and he couldn't make a play. He tried to do too much. I'm not worried about our lead in the NL East, I'm worried about Wagner in general. The Mets are playoff team, and right now Wagner worries me big time. I'm seeing Armando Benitez all over this guy.

More and more!

"I shouldn't have mentioned the name that was mentioned. A lot of people's feelings were hurt, and I didn't mean it that way," Guillen explained. "I apologize, but I wasn't talking about those people.

"But I'm not going to back off of Jay. If he wants to know, he should be talking to me here, right now. If he were a man, obviously he'd be here right now."

"The funny thing about Jay is I don't know when to believe him," Guillen added. "One week he says I am the worst man in the world and the next thing he says I am the best thing that ever happened to the Chicago White Sox organization. Two minutes later, he said how can Kenny Williams give me that job? The next time he says we need a guy like Ozzie to win the World Series. Poor him, poor him. He's ignorant."

I love Wagner. He's better than the garbage we had in Benitez and Looper. Its just that the Mets have this stupid curse where closers chocke for them. I mean when it effects Wagner you know theyre hexed.:lol

That said-I'll take my chances with Wagner in a playoff game any day. He's a billion times better than the closers we've had the last 10 years. He certainly isn't perfect. New York just does something to a guys head at times.

I don't know what to think anymore when it comes to our closers. He's better than the other disasters, but when I see him screwing some of these games up I get flashbacks. :lol

Yeah me too. The losses to the Braves and Yankees from our eratic closers over the years is just painful. Tonight is just another reminder of those dreadful games. But you know what-its still great to be in 1st place,4-5 of our guys are headed to the All Star game, and Pelfrey might be called up at the end of the season. Things could be much worse. Atleast its not 1993 where we lost 103 games, hearing Letterman making fun of the Mets every night, and being no hit by the late Daryl Kile that year.:(

I can't wait to see Pelfrey and Humber (when he recovers from Tommy John surgery that is). Imagine Pelfrey, Wright, Reyes, Milledge, Beltran, and Humber (crosses fingers) for the next 5 years. We can make some serious runs. I got really pissed at Wanger for screwing up Jose's night. Keith Hernandez jinxed us too. When Reyes was on first Keith blurts out; the only thing that could ruin this for Jose is if the Mets lose. I'm like STFU, that's the kiss of death right there. I love Keith though, we'll get them tomorrow.

LJ11-yeah the future looks good with the farm keeping the Mets young and full of fire.
Humber is finally back and ready to start pitching in rehab, right? Man I dream of having both he and Pelfrey up next year. I mean we have the offense, now the pitching needs to be patched up and we'd be looking good for quite a few years. And there had better be no ESPN articles on the next big pitching prospects for the Mets, they soooo jinxed Izzy,Wilson, and Pulsifer back in the day.

I really wish Keith Hernandez had kept silent because youre right-as soon as he said that things turned to complete shit. He's the best though,he knows baseball like a mad man. I'm glad we have him up in the booth. Though I dunno why but I sorta miss Can of corn Fran Healy at times, what a clown.:lol

From what I've heard and read, Pelfrey still isn't ready yet. He's still making strides, but I've heard a lot of Mets fans say they wish he'd be called up as soon as possible, and he just isn't at that point.

...Which is also why he isn't that big of trade bait right now. So I don't see why any Mets fan wouldn't want to see him in the minors for a bit yet, so he can perfect some of his stuff. Not saying anyone here, just at some other places where they get into a "****ING TRACHSEL WHERE'S PELFREY?" practice.

Yeah thats true. Truthfully I want him up for one reason,to impress the fromnt office. You dunno how much it worries me that he is down in the minors perfecting his stuff and yet we have the trade dead line approaching. Visions of Scott Kazmir all over again. Thats one of the reasons why I wish he were called up-to insure that we would not make another bone headed trade. But yeah he would be better off to stay down there this year. I heard that he has good stuff but that he needs to work on his secondary pitches more,so let the guy do his thing and learn down there.

Wow, what a supremely shitty loss. Especially coming off Valentin's clutch two-run shot and THE CYCLE. If we don't have a bounceback win tomorrow, I fear an ugly two week stretch is coming.

Look at it this way,its losses like this that keep the Mets grounded,a reality check so to speak.
Look how the Orioles took 2 out of 3 from the Mets because of the comfort zone we've had of late. Willy needs to jump their asses for this one.

Mets fans are eager to see these kids because we've been the laughing stock in NYC for such a long time and we see some light at the end of the tunnel. After the Mets traded Scott Kazmir, Mets fans we're in the baseball gutter. We were the laughing stocks of the Majors. Pelfrey started off rough but his last couple of starts down in the minors have been pretty good. I'm not sure on where Humber is right now, but I hope he's good to go for next season.

I wish Fran was in the booth with Keith. Keith would abuse him like mad. One other point, Xavier Nady should be playing left field. Milledge or Chavez would have caught that ball he misplayed in right. Hopefully next year they move him over to left and have Milledge play right.

Angelus, do you listen to WFAN at all? If you do then I bet you can't wait to hear Mike and the Maddog tomorrow, or Joe Benigno, rip on Wagner. They are going to be hard on him tomorrow so I'm not planning on tuning in because replaying the images in my head will ruin my day. :lol

Seriously. There's no excuse for having a losing homestand against these struggling teams.

At the same time, I know what this team is made of, and would be pretty surprised if they didn't come back on fire tomorrow.

Also look and see the rest of your division sucks and also lost, so you're fine in that regard :)
But I do understand the concern for not playing well.

ps the AL continues to dominate interleague play ;)

NL as a whole right now is weak league. As a Met fan I can see us making a strong run because the league is so weak. If we do make it to the big dance, the one team I don't want to face is the White Sox. They give me the chills...lol.

Bah Rosario was sent down to make room for Burnett, what the hell is this crap why send him down and keep Tallet up.

Pedro will start next Wednesday at Fenway. Oh man, I am anticipating this one.

I know Pedro left for the money, but I can't bring myself to hate him.

I can't wait to see the reception. Pedro may have left for the money, but he also left to pitch in the NL. He's getting older and having to go through some of those batting orders its just too much, even for him. What do you think the overall reaction is going to be?

On the plus side, Jose Reyes absolutely sealed his spot on the All Star team tonight.

I sure hope so. Some guy over on the Mets board was saying he voted over 100 times the other night for Reyes, Wright and the rest of the gang.

I wager my life that it's on ESPN. Oh, and if Damon got booed, so will Pedro.

Red Sox fans should learn from White Sox fans. Frank Thomas got the standing O....until he hit a homer, anyway =p

Well quietly we have no bullpen whatsoever outside of our closer, but the way this offense has been, we don't really need one :lol
But yeah, at this point last year we were a much better team, overall, no question.

LMAO at Wagner........$42 million and he's already got 3 blown saves.

I don't think its that big of a deal in the big scheme of things. But, you've gotta be worried about him come playoff time - especially when he's blowing saves up 10 games in the standings at home.

I still think its probably gonna end up being the best FA signing of the offseason FOR THIS SEASON*. But, that contract has the potential to get real ugly, real fast.

*if the Blue Jays win the WS, then I'll change that thinking.

And last year we had the best division in all of baseball-not one team had a loosing record. Its crazy how shit changes from one year to the next.:lol I'm sure the Mets aren't complaining though.

Oh and umm just to add abit more pain to tonights loss....

Wagner retired the first two batters easily but then walked Austin Kearns and pinch-hitter David Ross. Pinch-hitter Rich Aurilia reached on an infield single to third and Phillips followed with a sharp single to center.

"I just tried to hit the ball hard and drive it somewhere," Phillips said. "He threw me a fastball inside, a pitch high, another pitch high. If he threw me one more time a high pitch, I would've struck out."

Its times like this that I wish we still had Anna around.

I'd say he'll probably get a largely mixed reaction like Damon did. Pedro may actually get more cheers because of the fact that he has been gone for awhile now, and he doesn't play for the Yankees.

I still love me some Pedro.

Wanger had no control of his slider. All he did was throw heat after he walked Kearns and Ross. Anna was insane, she should up at the Mets Christmas party in a skimpy little Mrs. Clause outfit and Wilpon gave the order to dump Benson.

Two of the worst Mets trades in recent history-trading Kazmir and unloading Anna.

Chris who?

I wouldn't say that the NL East was one of the best divisions in baseball last year. While nobody was under .500, nobody was very far OVER .500 for much of the year. It was sorta mediocrity defined.

2005 N.L. East standing...

Braves 90-72
Phillies 88-74
Mets 83-79
Marlins 83-79
Nationals 81-81

The only other division that had their *Top 3* standing teams with winning records was the A.L. Central.

White Sox 99-63
Indians 93-69
Twins 83-79

After that though their 4th and 5th place teams in that division tapered off pretty badly after that-Tigers were 71-91,the Royals rounded it out with a 56-106 record.

The N.L. East was the top division last year, going by stastical win/loss records.
Sorta mute now though since the division is weak sauce this year though.

Seattle is now 8-0 in interleague play and one game under .500! While the playoffs would be awesome, I just want to see a winning season.

Screw that! We are going to the playoffs! THINK POSITIVE!

Ichiro 2-5 2 Runs tonight, extending his hitting streak to 20.
