LOL the Mets fans getting pissed because they now won't have homefiled advantage in their imaginary WS matchup.

Its not like it'll matter.......with that staff there's a looooooooooooong way to go before any WS tickets need to be printed.

Clearing up the new MLB TV rights deal:

Fox gets a new deal to televise the World Series and the All-Star Game through 2013. They also get the ALCS in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013, and the NLCS in 2008, 2010 and 2012.

The number of Saturday afternoon games Fox is allowed to air increases from 18 to 26. That's every Saturday in the regular season, folks, just like NBC used to do in the '70s. I'm happy they're doing it but I'm also surprised given how low the ratings have been in recent years.

Fox is paying $250 million a year, down from the current $417 million, for the MLB rights. This is consistent with carrying half the LCS and (so far) dropping the division series.

Also, Turner Sports will get non-exclusive rights to carry games on Sunday afternoons that will be blacked out in local markets (e.g. if they carry a Cubs-Cardinals game, the TBS feed won't be shown in Chicago or St. Louis). They'll also get the NLDS and ALDS. Whether the games will be on TBS, TNT, or both is not mentioned.

The rights for the LCS games not on Fox are still under negotiation between MLB, Fox, and Turner. As of now, ESPN will not be carrying any playoff games.

(I copy and pasted that from another website)

Keep up the great work Atlanta.

Heilman has looked awful the last month. But I can't unload the guy. Maybe he should be converted as a starter and Owens can take his spot in the pen?

I would love to see Heilman get a shot at the 5th spot. Heilman only has two pitches and that's what's keeping him out of the starting rotation. Only way we get Willis is if we blow the Marlins away with some rediculous one sided deal ie Pelfrey and Milledge. How about Milledge, Heilman and Humber? I would have to seriously think about that.

I think Minaya is going to get us a guy like Livan Herdnandez, who I don't really want. If a guy like Hernandez is the only reasonable option, then I would like to see us go with what we got and give Heilman the 5th spot.

They'll also get the NLDS and ALDS. Whether the games will be on TBS, TNT, or both is not mentioned.

Oh man....
No...just **** no. Get some good broadcasters and then I'll think viewing those games.
They should move those Atlanta annoucers over to the Nascar channel and fast.

One last part to that deal:

The deal with TBS voids out the last 5 years (2008-12) of their contract to nationally televise Braves games. Their deal was already structured so that TBS would drop from showing 70 games per year to 45. But, beginning in 2008 TBS will no longer show nationally televised games featuring the Braves (unless they happen to be playing in the weekly Saturday game). TBS has been showing nationally televised Braves games since the 70s.

This means that we'll likely see ~150 Braves games televised on TS and FSN.

I am absolutely sick to my stomach. This is the worst year I have ever experienced as a sports fan. Every week there's another kick to the gut. And the saddest thing about it all, Selig could give two shits.

LJ11-I totally agree. Livan isn't the answer, not for the post season anyways Sure he'll help for the strech run but I don't want him and his moody swagger and bad knee in a crutial game come playoff time. I want someone that is capable of doing his thing when the game is on the line. I don't think Livan Hernandez can do that anymore.

I'm with you though,I doubt we get Dontrel without being raped by the Marlins. Don't wanna go that route because the Kazmir deal is already bad enough.
One guy I'd love to pick up-Jason Smidt. Though I wouldn't dare give up the players I listed for him. Not at his age,he is starting to get injured abit too much the last few years.

I wonder what Minaya is thinking though.
The N.L. is so weak that its tempting to pick up a guy like Dontrel,we would 99.9% cruise to the World series, and we would need him to take down one of the big guns in that league.

I love him more and more each day.

SiameseDreamer-sorry dude.
That sucks for you, there's nothing worse than having games taken away from their fans.

Grab Direct Tv MLB Extra Innings if you have to.

I wouldn't mind Schmidt if the price is right. Schmidt is a free agent at the end of the season, so I don't want to give up anything other than Diaz/Keppinger or something along those lines. Mets will have a very different pitching staff next year if you think about it. Trachsel is a free agent, we have an option on Zambrano which we won't exercise, and I think Glavine has the option of becoming a free agent. The only two guys locked in for next year are Pedro, Pelfrey, and probably Glavine.

Next few weeks will be interesting indeed. I won't be in NYC for the trading deadline and wasn't here when the Kazmir deal went down either. I don't want to come back from vacation and be treated to another surprise.

I had no idea Smidt was a free agent. Definitely not worth giving up too much for him then. He and Zito would be sweet in the rotation next year. Either of them would do though.
I think Glavine will stay. His contract is suppose to be loaded with a ton of bonusses if he stays healthy and plays to his potential. I don't think the Braves would come up with the $15,000,000 he stands to make with that option next year. Ofcourse he could give the Braves a home team discount but I dunno,I think he's finally comfortable being in New York and winning in that city is always crazy so I think it'd be tough for him to pack up and leave, especially with the year the Mets are having thus far. He is all about family though,so that could pry him away next year.:(

I don't even wanna be near any news come July 31st. Because teams like the damn DevilRays think its justified to rape a big market team by giving up more than they should. Seeing Kazmir meeting his potential just kills me-the guy is a MET in my mind, always will be.

Minaya had better stay head strong come the trade deadline. As long as we don't give up too much, and we get quality in return, things are cool.

Hell yes, we're only one starter (Zito) away from being a WS shoe-in.

You'll have to wait for next year, then, since Zito isn't going anywhere with Harden on the DL and our offense playing like shit.

Astros Big announcement was a trade to get Aubrey Huff from the Devilrays.

Huff's line this season - .283, 15 2B, 8 HR, 28 RBI

Wow!!!!! /sarcasm

Jason Lane is going down to AAA.

The Astros GM is hinting that there will be more moves.

From last night:

Buck: "Almost a riding fastball because it's taking off from the hand of Penny."
McCarver: "A Mark Wohlberg fastball. Catch me if you can."

I'm in. Hopeully I can crack the top 10 for the rest of the year =/

Oh, and the rumors around here are the White Sox are very interested in Schmidt...but we'd have to trade both McCarthy and Anderson. Unless we can get him to agree to an extension, that's way too much to give up for a rental.
But if we could get him to commit, I'm more than fine with that. We could then send Garcia or Garland to the bullpen and have an even better rotation.

Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano had to be taken for X-rays and was deemed unavailable to pitch Tuesday after being struck on his throwing elbow by a fungo bat swung by Joey Cora.

:lol :lol :lol :lol Attaboy, Joey!

I still cant get over how I lost... ****ING STROS, GRR! Pujols with his triple in extra innings took the lead back from me for Calder.. crushing blow. :(

Great trade to get Huff,I wanted him last season :D

Take your .200 average down to the minors and get your game back Lane.

Good SI cover, overall good first half for the Mets. I still think the wild cars for the Mets in the second half is Floyd and Delgado they've been so-so this year. I think they'll start to heat and cataplote the Mets thru the rest of the year. I'm still worried of the starting pitching, I think they need another solid starter if they want to to major damage to the MLB this year. Other than it's been pretty good.

"I'll tell you," Huff said, "I'm very, very excited about Houston. There was a rumor last year about Houston, and I was excited to hear the rumor about it."

"Whatever it takes to get the best possible lineup on the field is what I'll do," Huff said.

He'll do anything to get in the playoffs, too, because he's never played in a postseason. Heck, Huff has never even felt what it's like to be near the top of a division.

"I've been in last place the last six years," he said.

Well, last no more. Huff reunites with a couple of former Rays teammates -- relievers Dan Wheeler and Trever Miller -- and he's excited about the prospect of winning with them and his new club.

"There's greater pastures waiting for me in Houston," Huff said.
sounds like this has the potential to be a classic "change of scenery" situation. I hope so.

2003 Aubrey Huff:

636 AB
198 H
34 HR
107 RBI
53 BB
80 K
.311 AVG
.367 OBP
.555 SLG
.922 OPS

If he could come anywhere NEAR that...*drool*

Avg and power... that doesn't happen very often. But I love this pick up as well... and he's a local guy, local guys tend to play better for their hometown.
