Official MLB Thread - 2006 Season

The Cubs' rookie-ball league team in Mesa won a game today 1-0 despite having no hits, walks, or HBP.

It was the pitcher's throwing error that accounted for the run

Nothing short of insane.

Oh, and speaking of minor league ridiculousness: Ron Necciai struck out 27 batters while no-hitting (4 baserunners reached on a walk, HBP, passed ball, and error) the Welch Miners in a minor league game. In his next start, he struck out 24 in a two-hit victory. That's 51 strikeouts in two starts

I suppose if you end up going down like that, at least it was still your own fault. I'd be so pissed off if I lost a game like that on a teammate's error.

I just want to give everyone a chance to laugh at me.

In the beginning of the season, I was desperate for a closer. Ichiro was struggling, so I traded him for a then-hot Turnbow from Milwaukee (a team that has a history of good closers).

He has since blown EIGHT saves. All in spectacular fashion. Ichiro is having one of his best seasons ever, in spite of a horrible April.

:( :(

I guess it explains why I am currently in last place.

Bwahahahahahah

Providence Journal
The Sox might be willing to move Wily Mo Pena...recalled from Pawtucket yesterday....for a pitcher. The Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals have inquired about Pena, but neither has starting pitching to deal.

Yeah, Turnbow is ass.

I'm pretty convinced there is no such thing as a piece of shit pitcher that has some type of miraculous come back season and then consistently stays good. It's so rare.

Aaron Small and Shawn Chacon are examples just on the yankees. Scott Proctor's "omg awesome" streak lasted a few months. If you suck, it's cause you suck.

A win is a win. It doesn't matter if we score 1 or 20.

Hey, that's our motto! Stop taking our mottos!! *ignores shame of "Red Sox Nation" rip-off "Yankees Universe"*

But on a serious note--this series against the Jays is pretty huge for all 3 of us. I'd love a sweep, will adore 3 outta 4, but I see us splitting. Is Halladay lined up for them? Hope not.

Edit: Moose vs Halladay tonight. Awesome.

No surprise - Wakefield to the DL. ****.

I'm looking forward to watching the Yanks and Jays beat up on each other. The Yanks will be seeing the best the Jays have to offer in Halladay, Burnett, and Lilly, so it would be swell if the Jays get 3 of 4.

This is really a do-or-die series for Toronto. A sweep from the Yanks would be a devastating blow to their season, since it could potentially put them 9-10 games back of the Sawx and Yanks in the loss column. A Toronto sweep makes this division race real tight yet again.

With all of that said, I predict a split.

Don't worry dude. We've got Kyle Snyder, Jason Johnson, and David Pauley ready to go... ****.

Hallady scares me, Burnett I'm unsure of, and I think we do pretty well against Lilly. Not smattering him, but our record is favorable.

I went to a 2004 game...Lilly vs. El Duque...ended with a walk off homerun 1-0 from Ruben Sierra...awesome game.

I was at that game with my dad. Probably one of the best Yankee games I've ever attended.

If we lose this series than we will probably be sellers at the deadline. I wouldn't be surprised if Lilly, Hillenbrand and some others are traded. Maybe even Wells.

You only have 10 days to trade Hillenbrand, but no one is gonna give you shit for him now.

It had a lot to do with Hillenbrand writing: "This is a sinking ship" on the chalkboard where batting practice times are written.

:lol :lol :lol :lol

edit: Jim Rome just reported on his show that the Cleveland Indians are trading Bob Wickman to Atlanta for a minor league prospect

According to one unnamed Blue Jay: "The manager said: 'You're gone! I'll be gone before you ever play another game in this organization.'

"It was as hot as I've ever seen (Gibbons) and that includes all of his ejections."

"He was a cancer in this clubhouse," another player said. "Shea's day went the way the lineup card went. If he was in the lineup, everything was fine. If he wasn't he'd sulk. Sometimes he wouldn't even come out to hit."

Hillenbrand's sense of humour included ripping the Canadian flag crest off the hat that the Jays wore Canada Day in a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, according to a team official. Hillenbrand had been taken out of that game in the seventh inning.

Yeah and he supposedly wrote this is a sinking ship on the chalkboard as a "joke". At this point we might as well trade him for a lower tier minor leaguerer.

Well, looks like the Braves are really gonna try to go for the Wild Card. I have Fatty Wickman in the GAF fantasy league, so maybe this will help me out.

I wouldn't like it if say, Pierzynski wrote that in our clubhouse, but for an outsider, that's hilarious.

Brian Anderson just extended his hitting streak. What year is it? How long was I asleep?

Here we go again, the game is slipping away from the Mets. WTF is it with these last two games, its like they come out strong then die as the game gets into the late innings.

Allright thats better-they throw out two guys at home trying to score on infield hits-inning over.:)

Arroyo is just nasty today. Even the two homers he gave us were on great pitching locations,we can't do shit to him now though. I fear this guy.

Yeah I admit it is kinda funny, apparently after he wrote that Gibbons lost it and started yelling at him to his face and than challenged him to a fight, Shea pussied out.

Even though we just got out of two scary innings, I don't see us winning this game. The momentum just isn't on our side.

Prove me wrong, boys. Prove me wrong.

Yeah I get that same vibe. The last few games there's been this damn momentum shift, like the Mets don't put teams away and then the shit hits the fan eventually. We need to start using small ball more in the late parts of the game, how come were not stealing bases more?

Our lineup is poop today. No Ortiz or Lowell? BAH.

And Schilling is the crappy version today. At least I'm guaranteed a Yankees/Blue Jays loss.

Did I hear that right? Keith Hernandez said Javier Valentine looks to have a much larger appetitte than his brother Jose.:lol

Another mess avoided. Mets are playing some tight DEFENSE in the last 3 innings, wow.

Dodgers should just give up on the season already and trade anyone that isnt a rookie. The pitching staff has become a joke, It takes a miracle for a Dodger pitcher to make past the 5th inning without giving up 5 runs. Kent is on the D.L. again and Mueller is done for the season, this team has absolutely 0 power in the line-up now that Drew has turned into Shawn Green in a dress. Bring up Andy LaRoche to play 3rd and put Willy Aybar at 2nd. Drop Jose Cruz Jr. and Ledee and bring back Matt Kemp!!!

Lead off double in the 9th,LET'S GO METS!

GAME ENDY!!!

Nady popped up to shallow right, and Denorfia called off the second baseman (who has the easier play), dove, missed it, and lay there making grass angels. Nady went to second.

Ballgame Endy!!
Series Endy!!
Roadtrip Endy!!
Mets win, the Mets win! They WIN!!!
