Marlins beat the Braves again! w00t!

Oh and they won't trade reggie to NY because he's fast and they use him to steal bases. He is also getting better and slowly learning. Now they are 5 games away from the Wild Card? That would be crazy!

12 games out.

BUT.....

I see ****ing war coming from both sides this weekend, should be a good series.

Marlins are 5 games from the wild card? Holy shit,I knew they were a young and dangerous team but damn. I like the makeup of that team, their gonna be division contenders before long.

Ya, I never expected that. But there are still 10 teams in the running for wild card. Most of them ae 6 games behind. Haven't really seen the charts after two days ago, but i know the Marlins are 5 away. They need to beat the Phillys and for Atlanta to get beaten by the Mets!

Man, Lidge is busted.

Big time. I think he has to be traded now, the fans are against him and a closer can't be effective when he has 30,000 fans breathing down his neck to get better. I think he'll be fine on another team though. Package him in a trade for a big bat.

edit: And that about signals the end of Hoffman's career

Damn, Hoffman has blow 3 saves since the All Star break. Hoff is about as money as you can get with a closer and he's blowing saves? That's ****ing bizzare.

Ever since he lost the All Star game he's been cursed. The Curse of Michael Young!!

His baby can see the curse. It can see the true evil that lives within Mr. Young.

I love Jim Caple's Yankee hate, it's only a tiny bit less entertaining than Simmons' Yankee hate and he's usually more subtle.
Alex Rodriguez has been going through a slight crisis of confidence lately, but fortunately he's in the perfect place to overcome that: New York, home to the greatest and most supportive fans in the world. Thanks to their famed nurturing ways, they'll have the league's best player back to his old self before the trade deadline!

Many players struggle when they switch teams, but Yankees fans help ease the transition. "If you've made it anywhere, you can make it here" is the unofficial motto in the Bronx. Here, fans appreciate and respect what a player has achieved elsewhere in the past and they know that it's 60 feet, 6 inches from the mound to home plate and 90 feet between the bases at Yankee Stadium, just like in Seattle and Texas. That's why they understand that all Alex needs is a little time and support before he comes through big, just like he did in Texas, when he personally carried the Rangers on his back each September and saw to it that they only finished 31 games out of first place instead of 32 or 32½.

And as far as not feeling worthy to play with such a storied franchise? That might be a problem in Pittsburgh, but not here. Fans believe a player becomes a true Yankee as soon as he pulls on the pinstripes -- if not even earlier when he holds his first press conference -- and they always cheer him as loudly as if he had won four World Series with them. "We wouldn't have beaten the Twins in the 2004 Division Series without you!" is a frequent cry when A-Rod takes the field.

Never is heard a discouraging word in the Bronx. Fans know that the worst thing you can do for a slumping player is to put even more pressure on him by booing him. They take it as a personal responsibility to get him back on track. So instead of heckling a player, Yankees fans only yell encouraging things like, "That's OK. We'll get them next time," or "Relax, it's just a game," and "As long as you try your hardest, you'll always be our hero." These cheers are so effective that Tony Robbins uses tapes of them in his self-affirmation seminars, while author Robert Fulghum is working on a new book: "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Bleacher Section 39."

Yankees fans also have memories so long they would embarrass an elephant. The attitude might be, "What have you done for me lately?" in so many cities, but not in New York. Here, it's, "It's OK if you went 0-for-October because we remember all you did for us in April. And we also remember that big series you had in 2004 against the Royals, too."

But it's not surprising fans are so understanding when they have the benefit of the famously supportive New York media, which goes out of its way to focus only on the positive. The New York tabloids don't even print the standings when the Yankees aren't in first place, so as not to discourage the players. Rodriguez will try to take responsibility for a disappointing performance, but the reporters will have none of it. "Awww, the sun was in your eyes, Alex," they'll say after he makes a bad throw. Or, "That SOB must be on steroids to get you out, A-Rod," after a strikeout in the clutch. Or when they see Rodriguez looking downhearted by his locker after a loss, they'll come up and say, "Geez, we don't know how you're able to play at all with the way the government taxes you, poor guy," and then offer to buy him a beer and cheer him up.

Naturally, the YES Network is equally supportive. Every team's broadcasters emphasize the positive, but the YES Network has taken that to a new extreme with A-Rod this season. Instead of showing his modest ".278, 21 HR, 72 RBI" numbers, they show ".300, 57 HR, 142 RBI" with only the smallest of asterisks indicating that those numbers are from 2003. Rather than harp on his low average in late-inning/close-game situations, they help by saying, "This is the man Yankees fans want up at the plate most with the game on the line because he's due."

The man setting the tone, of course, is owner George Steinbrenner, aka Mr. Positive. He knows A-Rod is a proven winner and a true Yankee who will break out of this funk and return to his status as the league's best player. And if not? It's not that big a deal, according to the Boss. The important thing is that A-Rod is enjoying himself.

Granted, Steinbrenner and Yankees fans can afford to be patient, content in the knowledge that even if A-Rod doesn't snap out of it, they can all enjoy another All-Star third baseman playing across town for a division champ. As long as one New York team is winning, that's all that really matters to Yankees fans.
Ok, not so much with the subtle this time. :lol

I've searched youtube but I can't find a clip of Beltre's inside the parker. Hilarious clip, I couldn't stop laughing at Manny pawing at the ball like a spastic puppy then falling, then helpfully pointing the ball out to Crisp. :lol Anyone have it?

Just to let all the Mets fans know - I'm going to Spartanburg in a bit for my brother's wedding and I'm not sure what my internet options will be like. So, if I don't post, then its not because I'm avoiding the forum. I'm taking my laptop, so hopefully I'll be able to get on somewhere.

The Brewers are trading slugger Carlos Lee to the Rangers as part of a multi-player deal, ESPN's Keith Law has learned. The Brewers are sending Lee, Nelson Cruz and a player to be named to Texas for reliever Francisco Cordero and outfielders Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix. Both teams are working on the medicials.

That was rather quick........

As long as Pence isn't part of the deal, (AND WE BRING PENCE UP WITHIN THE NEXT YEAR), then I'm all for Private Punchout Jr, but with the 40+ HRs a year.

Only problem with trading Everett is that it leaves a big hole at short (defensive wise... Bruntlett is a good fielder but worse than everett with the stick) so I may be willing ot part with Willy instead of Adam (I still think Willy has tons of upside though. He just needs to get better jumps at first when stealing and become a slap hitter at the plate).

Edit: and I agree with you about Pence... that mother****er needs to be in the bigs next year (I hope he gets septemeber callup too).

WTF, why we would we want Everett when we already have Felipe Lopez and Cristian Guzman's stupid contract, plus a super prospect in Ian Desmond.

That trade your formulated is hilarious. Yeah, trade us your trash and fringe players for an All-Star outfielder. Not going to be that, for sure.

Quite frankly, the Nats would love to trade him, because he has a lot of value, but they'll keep him too. He likes DC and would resign if we dump or trade Vidro, which is looking more and more likely (meaning he returns to 2B). So I don't think they'll trade him for your scrap heaps.

what if they throw in Bagwell?

It's obvious the Nats want the moon for Soriano. That's why the White Sox backed out. Their GM loves to wheel and deal, rarely do you see him publicly disengage from a trade.

i don't see why a team like the disAstros would even want to trade for Soriano. You aren't making the playoffs folks. Give up on that dream. Might as well just keep your prospects and sign Soriano in the offseason.

They'll get the moon too. Also the ChiSox deal sucked. The offered Podsednik and a prospect not named McCarthy. What the f*ck. This is Soriano, not Kevin Millar you dumb ChiSox fans.

Well we'd have Tejada if the Baltimore organization wasn't as stubborn as a mule and slow as a tortiose to do anything.

Pupura apparently has a mandate from Drayton to get a bat or he wouldn't have went on TV yesterday and admitted as much (makes you look desperate). So if we do get a big bat we'll probably get raped in the process (as long as it doesn't include Pence, Patton or Berkman I think anyone is tradable on the club).

Considering that the Nationals are looking specifically for prospects, I highly doubt that Pence is not included in trade negotiations.

The Rangers? That's a shock. I never even knew they were in the running for Carlos Lee. They're two games out of the AL West so it makes sense.....good move for them.

The Rangers trading for Carlos Lee doesn't make a ton of sense. They desperately need some pitching, because what they have stinks. At least they were able to dump Cordero, who has become pretty much worthless.

More good news for the Dodgers, woo!

VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- A minor league pitcher in the Los Angeles Dodgers' system was arrested after being accused of breaking into several suites at Dodgertown and stealing credit cards and cash from his teammates.

Christopher Hobdy, a 19-year-old pitcher for the Gulf Coast Dodgers in the rookie Gulf Coast League, was arrested Wednesday night and charged with seven counts of burglary and six counts of petit theft. He also was charged with trespassing and barred from returning to Dodgertown, the Vero Beach Press Journal reported for Friday's editions.

the brewers are 5.5 games out of the wildcare and are in their first post season hunt in how many years? and they trade their top player?

??? ? ????? ?????????????????????????????????????

and the yankees are bad for baseball?

I don't really get that Rangers trade.

Also, about the White Sox and Soriano, on the radio around here the word is the White Sox were never really that interested. The Nats were asking for McCarthy, and KW said not a chance. Then someone on the Washington side was the one that "leaked" the info in order to drive up Soriano's price.
At least that's what everyone around Chicago is saying.

yeah some people are saying the trade was never really all that close.

i think the twins will sneak in and get soriano which would then mean we're all ****ed.

edit: the yankees have their eyes on lieber, lidel, ramon ortiz and mark redman. lieber supposedly would come in a package with abreu for middle level prospects instead of hughes which philly initially wanted. i say **** abreu and try to just get lieber.

This weekend's Angels/Bosox series should be really fun to watch. A battle of division leaders. Of course I'm rooting for the Angels to take the games...although

Lester goes tonight, in a big test for him against the red hot Angels. He's on my fantasy team so I'll try to watch the first few innings..Sunday is Schilling vs Lackey, and saturday is the main event....everyone's favorite stud Jered Weaver in by far his biggest test.

The Jays are playing the A's, and the last few games have been depressing as hell. The offense shows no spark...this team doesn't look like it has a serious shot to make the playoffs the way it is right now. I'd love to see a trade.

So yeah.........go Angels
and Jon Lester :(

Oh yeah, and the Twins and Tigers are playing....that's a huge series. Liriano tonight...Santana sunday....mmmmm nasty. Go Morneau! The Canadian Masher
