The Houston Chronicle's Richard Justice reports that Astros owner Drayton McLane has ordered GM Tim Purpura to trade Brad Lidge.

The Rangers are the team getting mentioned in connection with Lidge, but if he has to go, there will be more interested parties, starting with the Mets and Red Sox. The Astros could turn over closing duties to Dan Wheeler if they move Lidge. Jul. 31 - 12:28 pm et

Wow the Tigers acquired Sean Casey today. And the Yankees have Abreu. The two teams ahead of the White Sox just bolstered their team. Kenny needs to make a move now.

Who cares about the Tigers making a minor upgrade. We're not catching them. The Yankees can add as much hitting as they like. Much like us, they need better pitching.

andruw jones to boston isnt happening but the red sox are talking to the pirates about kip wells. PLEASE MAKE THIS TRADE! :lol

Acquiring Kip Wells would be an utter waste of time. Remember Jeff Suppan? We gave up Freddy Sanchez in that trade, and now he's hitting .350.

Just say no, Theo.

Sox are still interested in Lugo. What the hell is Theo's fascination with this guy? We don't need any woman beaters on our team.

I'll be glad when this day is over... my head is about explode (thankfully I'm at work so I don't have time to become obsessed over the latest trade rumor).

Yeah but it is always good to try and give your team a spark, and this is what the Yankees did.

Having said this, I agree that both the White Sox and Yankees will be bounced out in the first round (if they make it) because of their pitching problems.

Looks like Mets are staying put.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKK Sanchez is out for the season. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo

why do i have a feeling jim bowden is gonna pull a jim bowden and trade alfonso soriano seconds after the deadline?

Mets getting Roberto Hernandez and Oliver Perez for ??? according to Stark

Wow, so I guess the Pirates have finally decided to give up on Perez. His velocity is down and he looked like shit every time I saw him this year.

:lol Cause he's a moron.

DUANER SANCHEZ OUT FOR THE YEAR...details coming in. Car accident?

Robert hernandez? And Oliver Perez has officially become total ass.

Wow-Frankman wouldn't do this deal? Milledge is gonna be great but having a still young stud like Oswalt on your staf for years to come plus giving us the chance to win it all this year is too much to pass up. Heilman is gonna bolt to free agency in a few more years since I doubt the Mets will ever give him a legit starting job. Bannister is a work in progress - he got into alot of jams earlier this year putting all those guys on base,he has no real fastball to go with his his offspeed stuff,he is too predictable. But ofcourse he knows how to get out of jams,he is either that smart or had some incredible luck getting out of those wild innnings.:)
Not that I hate the deal, but two things:

a) The deal would leave us with a void in the pen.... HOLY SHIT

The Mets have made a move they will hope will boost their suddenly lackluster rotation, sending outfielder Xavier Nady to the Pirates for left-hander Oliver Perez and reliever Roberto Hernandez, sources have told SI.com.
YES!!!

GODDAMN IT ****ING SHIT SAHGDSAKFSHKGDJ

Yesssssss bring on Kip Wells. REC 1-5 | SV 0 | ERA 6.69 | WHIP 1.76

We'll compare our new toys later this month.

Okay, so we're gonna get Kip Wells... and the Mets are going to get Oliver Perez for Xavier Nady.

What the ****.

What so special about Oliver Perez he's washed out. Unless Peterson could do a mircal on him I don't like this trade.

I don't really like this deal Perez was a good pitcher but he has lost velocity on his fastball. He's 2-10 with 6+ ERA.
Best we could do. Oswalt's price may be too high, Willis isn't on table, and Schmidt is a risk. However, is Perez really any better than the Maine-Bannister-Pelfrey trio? He eats innings but needs to be effective. Bigger thing, we get Hernandez to replace Dirty.

PIRATES MAKE A GOOD TRADE! HOLY SHIT METS AM ****ED!! Nady for Perez and Hernandez? Yes please! Perez pitched a third of an inning in Trip A ball a couple nights ago, and gave up eight earned runs. He's so bad right now. He's lost 10 to 15 MPH on his fastball since he was a strikeout beast two years ago. So sorry Mets fans.

It's hard being a Pirates fan. :(

That's why I don't want him on the Mets he's just left handed Victor Zambrano. If he was the two years ago version I would be shitting in my pants right now. But Nady is an okay player so it's not too bad.

Nady is a player we desperately need - an outfielder, and a solid hitter. Perez is on the downward spiral, and by all accounts he's a cancer in the clubhouse. Mets have more stars and leadership than the Pirates, but he's got a horrible attitude. I like the Mets, so I'm kinda sorry for ya, but Pirates are my team..

perez is lefty, 6 years younger, has better stuff, and zambrano has never put up a season with a 2.99 era and 240k's.

So we're getting Kip Wells for one-eyed Abe Alvarez. A crappy major leaguer for a crappy minor leaguer. Fair enough.

WEEI says the Braves asked for Coco, Hansen and Lester for Andruw Jones. **** that. Lester is untouchable.

BIG DEAL JUST WENT DOWN.

Todd Walker to San Diego for a minor league pitcher!

OMG!!!!111111

Hope this doesn't affect the Cubs playoff push!

Dosen't matter he's sank like the Titanic ever since 2004, some people were saying it was steriods.

Hah, I hope ESPN did a two-hour special on the trade deadline, and the only thing that happens is a couple Pirates trades. :lol

Indeed.. That's an especially popular explanation around these parts. He broke his foot when he kicked the laundry cart last year, not his throwing arm.

An hour and a half, sorry. :P

Oliver Perez is not a bad pitcher. He's having an off season, but the guy is young and will bounce back. I'm surprised that the Tigers sent Shelton down to the minors... I half expected the Dodgers to make a run at him since Loney hasnt been that great in his limited time up in the Majors.

How old is that update? Because live on ESPNews they said it was done.

edit: Kip Wells deal is now "in jeopardy"
My bad, you're right that update was 40 minutes ago.

Rich (Chicago)
What are Oliver Perez's numbers like?

JOHN MANUEL
I saw Jayson Stark's update, R. Hernandez and O. Perez to the Mets, without the Mets pieces mentioned. I think Oliver Perez is a good guy to take a chance on, especially if you have veterans like Pedro, Glavine and a pitching coach like Rick Peterson to try to straighten him out. The guy was lights-out in 2004. The problem is the lights are definitely on this year, hitters are seeing him pretty well, he's given up 6 HRs in 32 IP in Triple-A and just gave up 8 runs in 1/3 of an inning in his last start. All that said, as long as the Mets don't give up Milledge or their 17-year-old phenoms (Guerra and Martinez) in such a deal, I think it's a good chance to take, because the Mets would have two solid months to work with Perez to see if he could help, at the very least as a power bullpen arm down the stretch.
True that.

The guy's a headcase. Sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about. In his seasons with the Padres, he was either decent or below average, and he had one good spurt with the Pirates. Since, he's been terrible. And has been noted, his fastball, which was his killer stuff two years ago, has dropped an average of 12 MPH. He hasn't come close to touching 98 the last two seasons, and that's what he regularly threw when he struck out over 200.

Wow, what did Omar do to renig on his deal with the devil?

That is a monstrous loss for the Metropolitans.

I have absolutely no pity though. The Braves have been ravaged by bullpen injuries this year. Gotta move on......

**** the Astros,I cant even believe they thought about trading Roy-O.

Oliver Perez and Heath Bell to SD for Linebrink?

So now we get no starter out of the deal?

Nady and Perez for Hernandez and Linebrink is kind of a steal, though. Good job, Omar.
