Don't worry, once he has been around Giambi for a few weeks I'm sure he'll somehow turn into a total beast. Hmmm... :)

You guys should just play the 9th inning of games from now on. I mean, sure, you've been so lifeless of late that essentially you are, but MLB should just make it official.

We only need one inning to win games. We're that awesome. Why waste energy in all of those other innings when the only one it matters to be leading after is the 9th?

The AL East is a two-horse race once again. Who woulda thunk it? *rolls eyes*

EDIT - Did Torre REALLY have to use Scott Proctor in a blowout? :X

Scott Proctor is on to get some work in.

Well, you know. With the heat...he's gotta stay in shape.

Sal Fasano looks so much better without that ridiculous porntee and mullet he had. He still looks like crap, but he's better.

Blue Jays fans, you have now lost the right to pretend that your team has any relevance for the remainder of this season. The truth has been lingering for a while, but it's official now.

Fine...Then it's my pathetic role as a Jays season ticket holder/GAF addict/insane person to pester fans of both teams until they want me dead.

Turn in your jackets Jays fans, it's all but over.

Don't worry Alex, I'm sure your day will come. Maybe after you hit about 10 more walk-off homers and bat 1.000 against the Red Sox in the playoffs. Even then, there may still be boos.

I was at the Tampa game this past Friday in the bleachers and every time he came up I went friggin' nuts hootin' and hollerin' for him. I attempted to start a "Let's Go A-Rod" cheer and everything. Only "The Slap" he pulled really, really, really irked me. Otherwise, I ain't hatin' on Alex.

I only get mad at arod when he struggles for no physical reason...just because someone calls him stupid on the radio his swing gets messed up for three weeks.

i may be in the minority but i like michael kay. when i was living in ny i would listen to his espn radio show a lot. and i REALLY like jim kaat, i hope he doesnt leave after this season.

The problem with Kay, for me, is that it is very obvious where his roots are. He was a sports tabloid journalist of sorts. A New York Post-ish writer. On his show, where they discuss dirt, stuff about baseball players lives, blah blah, that's fine. On the air, I'd much rather Jim Kaat and Ken Singleton (and Paul O'Neil and John Flaherty and Al Leiter) because I'm more interested in the mentality behind the game as well as the physicality they understand because they themselves played.

I think that's why Jon Sterling and Suzyn Waldman can be such a strange broadcast at times. Heh.

Man, isn't that the truth. I'd rather listen to Michael Kay than Steve Phillips.

I'd rather listen to the guy that did the opening dialog between Richter and Dracula in SotN than Steve Phillips.

proctor AND farnsworth?!?!?! does joe realize they dont have a day off til monday???

let me guess, mo's coming in to shut down the 9th.

Jim Kaat and Ken Singleton are the best, easy. Laid back, soothing voices, never get worked up. Nice to smoke a fattie and watch while they call the game.

farnsworth should be on the ****ing bullpen bench, now he's coming out with an injury because torre put him in with a 7 run lead....

????? Back locked up? What?? Whhhhaaaat??
he tried to catch a comebacker that smacked off his fingers.

probably nothing serious but theres no reason for him to be in the game in the first place.

Whew. And you are completely correct. Ponson shoulda been in--it would have been his start anyway today if not for Lidle.

I think Maddux is gonna come out and throw a gem tonight, and the Dodgers will sweep the Reds. I might be jinxing it, but I just have this feeling that's gonna happen.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals agreed to terms on a major league contract Thursday with right-hander Luke Hochevar, the No. 1 overall pick in the June draft.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Hochevar will sign the contract on Saturday and will be placed on the Royals' 40-man roster. Hochevar becomes the second player in Royals' history to sign a major league contract out of the draft. The other was Bo Jackson in 1986, a Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn and the first overall pick by Tampa Bay in the National Football League draft.

Now that Blue Jays have no relevance I hope they can atleast get the Yankees eliminated from the playoffs in the last series of the year.

I was about to ask what you had against him until I saw this in the link

"The Los Angeles Dodgers took Hochevar with the 40th overall pick in the 2005 draft, but he rejected a $2.98 million bonus and re-entered the draft."

I didn't know players could do that. If they could that in other sports we'd have a world of trouble. Lebron on the Knicks!

Yeah it happens all the time, that is why sometimes the smaller teams draft safer prospects who they believe they will be able to sign. Thats why the Kazmirs or the Pelfreys drop in the draft down to teams like the NY Mets. It is exactly the reason why the Blue Jays took Romero over Pelfrey as they knew they didn't have the money to sign him. The only thing Gord Ash ever did well was draft because he wasn't afraid to pick the best player available and then pay whatever they wanted unlike JP who takes the safe player and is usually burned by it.

Well, NFL players can kinda do that. They can not agree to a contract and reenter the draft the next year. It's incredibly rare though.

Speaking of money, I'm surprised that Jose Reyes' contract extension is for as little this.

"The New York Mets announced today that they have signed infielder Jose Reyes to a four-year contract extension worth $23.25 million with a club option for 2011.

This guy is one of the best leadoff men in the league, certainly one of the top 3 basestealers, and has developing power and is hitting for average now. You would have thought he'd get more than 6 mill a year.

**** man, we're paying Furcal 13 million a year and Reyes is considerably better than him IMO. I figured he'd get at least $9-10 million.

Mets sign infielder Jose Reyes to a four-year contract with a club option for 2011

The New York Mets announced today that they have signed infielder Jose Reyes to a four-year contract extension worth $23.25 million with a club option for 2011. (edit) - option is worth eleven million.

Reyes, who turned 23 on June 11th, was signed by the Mets to a non-drafted free agent contact in August, 1999. The 6-0, 160-pound switch-hitter leads the majors with 13 triples and 44 stolen bases this season. Jose is also second in the majors with 88 runs scored while hitting .293 (127-433) with 20 doubles, 45 RBI and a career-high 37 walks. Reyes has already tied the franchise single season record for home runs by a shortstop with 10 (Kevin Elster in 1989 and Ed Bressoud in 1966).

"The commitment from ownership is to sign our core players to long term contracts so they can be part of the team for years to come," said Mets Senior Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer Jeff Wilpon. "We are delighted to reach this agreement with Jose Reyes. It's something that gives our team stability and a foundation to build upon now and in the future."

Jose was named the National League's starting shortstop in this year's All-Star Game in Pittsburgh, but was unable to participate due to an injury.

"Jose is one of the most exciting young players in the game today," said Mets General Manager Omar Minaya. "He is one of the lightening rods for our offense and we couldn't be more excited to agree to a long term contract with him."

Reyes already ranks fifth on the team's All-Time Stolen Base List with 136 and third on the All-Time Triple List with 36.

Jose hit .273 (190-696) with 99 runs scored, 24 doubles, 17 triples, seven home runs, 58 RBI with 60 stolen bases in 2005.

"It's an exciting day for me," said Reyes. "I never dreamt this was imaginable when I signed as a 16-year-old. I owe a great deal of thanks to Fred and Jeff Wilpon and Omar Minaya for making this happen."

During his four-year major league career, Jose is batting .282 (457-1,623) with 267 runs scored, 72 doubles, 36 triples, 24 home runs, 149 RBI and a 136 stolen bases in 383 games.

Good to see the Amazins locked up their man. Up next David Wright.:D

seattle times on harold reynolds:

"This was a total misunderstanding," Reynolds told the New York Post. "My goal is to sit down and get back. To be honest with you, I gave a woman a hug and I felt like it was misinterpreted."

However, there was also talk that Reynolds' dismissal stemmed from some contentious differences in production meetings with ESPN's critical stance on Alex Rodriguez's recent spate of problems on the field.
