Yeah, it's nice to see the Dodgers bounce back a little after that horrible stretch after the All-Star break, but again this is the NL and you're never really out of it :-p I was hoping I could call the season over but the Dodgers have started giving me hope again which I'm sure will be crushed as the season nears its end. Gah :-\ But for the moment I can enjoy this. Woo! Go Dodgers! Maddux was a great trade afterall! Woo! *cue Maddux getting injured or finishing the season with an ERA over 10*

Damn Saito had me scared there a bit. I was hoping that Little would use Tomko there since Saito had pitched 1 1/3 Innings last night.

Yeah, I was reading the play-by-play, and Saito had hit a batter and walked the next batter and Griffey was up to bat and I was thinking, it's going be a tie game :-p But Saito managed to pull it out. Now he's 11 for 11 in save opportunities which is nice :) But I still miss Gagne :-(

Nothing like west coast extra innings baseball for east coast insomniacs like me. This Angels/Rangers game is pretty good, and I like the Angels so I'm not entirely impartial. We need more 1:45 am baseball!

Alright, another Torontonian watching the Angels game! Maybe we should become bandwagon scum and start rooting for them :lol

Chone Figgins with one of the worst games in recent memory. 0-6 and his final AB was a game ending double play.

All I am cheering for now is the Yankees being eliminated from playoff contention.

Oh and I still believe in the Blue Jays. 20 game win streak coming soon baby. Back into playoff contention. Right after we lose 2 of 3 to Chicago. All we need is some healthy Chacin.

I want to believe. I'll be at all 3 games this weekend, and if we get a sweep my faith will have been restored. Hell, 2 of 3 would be a big step but I want all 3.

i doubt we get a sweep, as really McGowan has no control of his fastball and is going to get pounded on Saturday. We can get 2 of 3 if the good Lilly shows up and Halladay pitches like Halladay (also if Garland pitches like Garland).

Regarding Duaner Sanchez story:

The Daily News reported that charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the other car. Lt. Pat Santangelo, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol, said it wasn't immediately known if alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident.

Uh-oh . . . RIP = other driver.

What, Lilly's been put ahead of Burnett in the rotation? or did you make a mistake.. I hate hate for burnett :(

<-- season's over

Its going to be Halladay, McGowan than Lilly according to the probable pitchers on the Jays website. Makes no sense to me.

NM it's been fixed, its Halladay, McGowan and Burnett now. Or maybe I read it wrong the first time, hopefully the good Burnett shows up.

And don't give up yet, 20 game winning streak coming up. Believe.

I guess A-Rod's a dumbass for being "lazy" spending quality time with his family in Central Park. OH NOOOESSSSS!!

Seriously, I almost think you're trying to bait Mets fans. My God, a guy can't go out and expect a cabbie to do his job, nvm the fact that it may be the OTHER GUY'S FAULT? Man alive...

We have another Shea on our hands.. what an ass Molina is. Seriously we should have traded Lilly,Speier,Molina, SS at the deadline. Hopefully some of them pass waivers and we can get something decent for them. We need more Accardo's.

Yeah I saw that. Molina should blame himself, he plays shitty defense, runs slower than Cecil Fielder, and can't hit right handed pitching. I don't know what the hell we are going to do next year about our catching. I doubt Speier passes through waivers. Speier is pretty good and I would want to re-sign him anyway. Schoeneweis has been garbage I could care less what we do with him, he has been outpitched by Downs and Tallet.

R_GILL said:
Oh yeah, has Konerko ever been thrown out at first after he hit a line drive to the right fielder.

Him and Thome both have been in like the last month. Though with Thome, he was forced out at second after Konerko hit a line drive to right.

Plus, Joey Cora loves sending runners home from second at questionable times, and Konerko has been thrown out by like 110 feet about 5 times this year.

p.s. why the hell are almost half of the top 10 posters in this thread up so late. I'm drunk, what's your excuse?

Take a look at our payroll for next year:

1. Burnett $12 mil
2. Glaus $10.5 mil
3. Halladay $12.8 mil
4. Hinske $4.625 mil
5. ghost of Koskie $3.5 mil
6. BJ Ryan $9 mil
7. Vernon Wells III $5.6 mil
8. Josh Towers 2.0 million

That's 60 million tied up in 8 players, two of whom won't be playing with the Jays next year. Lyle Overbay (2.5 mil) and Reed Johnson (1.4) are likely to get significant raises in their salary due to arbitration. So let's say 5 mill between the two of them. So 65 million.. payroll for 2007 is (right now) 75 million. For 10 million - the relatively small contracts of all their young players, the jays need to resign or replace: Justin Speier, Ted Lilly, Bengie Molina, Greg Zaun, Frank Cattalanoto, and also address their needs of another starting pitcher and a SS/2B. Lilly will probably cost 6-8 mill, maybe more, and is probably gone. Speier is useful, but might command big salary that prices him out of Toronto as well. I'm figuring we sign cat and zaun again, and that's about it.

Rotation for next year: Halladay,Burnett,Chacin, Mcgowan/Rosario, Janssen/Marcum
Bullpen: Ryan,Accardo,League,Downs,Tallet,Frasor
Lineup: C: Zaun 1B: Overbay, 2B: Adams, SS: Hill, 3B: Glaus, LF: Johnson, CF: Wells, RF: Rios, DH: Cat

And then sometime in 07 Vernon Wells will be traded, to hopefully add pitching.

I wouldn't be surprised if Vernon was traded this off season, JP seems to like to make his moves in the off season. I remember the Angels offered Santana + some prospects when Santana was struggling earlier on. Rosario is more of a reliever, he never gets passed the 5th at AAA, but has pitched well since coming back from injury.

Towers will be given another shot next year, I can almost guarantee it no way JP is wasting 2 million on a guy at AAA. Also we have to pay 500 k I think if we don't pick up Molinas option.

Heh, I was watching the game where Thome got thrown out at second. You could tell Konerko was pissed since he didnt get the hit... pretty sure Hawk even said something about that, heh.

Thought I'd ask you guys a question pertaining to my fantasy baseball team.

I was proposed this:

I receive Chris Carpenter and Magglio Ordonez

I give up Manny Ramirez and Jeff Francis.

I have ok hitting, not so hot pitching right now. I'm currently occuping the final playoff spot in my league. What do you all think?

Good question. R Gill (assuming he lives in Toronto) is out insomniacing even me. Posting literally all night. Keep up the good work!

5 am and Joe, Dez, Frankman, Eminem and R Gill are all posting. This thread is the best.

Andruw Jones was claimed off waivers by someone.

Its suspected to be either Boston or Los Angeles (AL).

The Braves have 72 hours to work out a trade or pull him back off waivers. But, he wouldn't be able to be traded the rest of the year. He becomes a 10/5 guy this weekend.

OH SNAP. Too bad nothing we would trade for him would make it through waivers-- Hansen, Coco, etc.

Wtf, why would they want to get rid of him? Is he in the last year of his contract or something? I'd love it if the Dodgers snagged him.. we desperately need someone who can hit a HR in any at bat. Though, we'd probably would have to give up Broxton, Billingsley, Ethier or Kemp which I'd rather we not do.

How old is Andrew Jones? Why would they want to trade him if they plan to contend next year? You don't simply replace a guy like that,no way.

Jones on waivers? Are the Braves just testing the waters to see what they could get in a trade and then aer going to pull him off? I wonder who claimed him?

Anyway I was up all last night because I had an exam today. Of course I hardly got any studying done. Oh well still went well.

Oh and Rosario has been called back up and I think he might start tommorrow, he is more ready than McGowan and tommorrow is when he would have started in AAA. I think he can go 4 or 5 innings max. His last AAA start he only got up to 4 innings, but he was pretty damn good.

boo-hoo. i think it's fair to say that hostilities have been kept to a minimum this year between mets and yankee troops (thanks to the off-season peace accords) dont try to escalate things to a point of no return. and how the hell can you even begin to conmpare one dude out in the park with his family with another dude looking for food at 2:30 in the AM? come on...

He's 29 and due $13.5 million next year. That's a pretty good deal in this day and age.

With the ownership situation in flux (because Selig cancelled this month's owners meeting where the transfer of ownership was going to be voted on), that represents ~1/6 of the payroll. Perhaps they are just trying to see what his market is before his 10/5 rights lock him in for sure next season. Maybe they are just trying to see if anyone blows them away with an offer. I know the Mets put Piazza on waivers just about every year. Andruw is different for a variety of reasosn and that's why he was claimed.

That said, I would be SHOCKED if he does end up getting traded.

Apparently the Angels put in a claim for him, if anyone has the prospects to blow the Braves away and the need for offense it is them.

Yeah, I hear they have a ton of talent. The only thing is though is that if the guy they want to trade for Andruw is on their 40 man roster, then he can be claimed before he gets back to the Braves.

Who? Kendrick? Yeah he would be claimed the second he hit waivers. Wood is their top prospect, they could probably build a deal around him, but are they willing to is the question.
