Woo hahahah, who will collapse worse down the stretch: Detroit or the White Sawx?

Oh and Mets fans your team is still garbage! Losing to the cubs at home that taint lasts forever!

"In an accounting quirk that would make the financial stewards of Enron blush, the Yankees will be allowed to deduct the operating costs of the new ballpark from their local revenue, thereby reducing their contribution to the revenue sharing pool. If you're a fan of capitalism, you're probably cheering in the background. If you believe in competitive balance in sports, it's not too early to start crying in your beverage of choice."

mlb and bud selig owned.

oh and godzilla returns possibly for mondays game!

looks like Jeff Loria can't pocket as much Yankee money anymore. :lol

Also, Matsui makes our lineup positively unfair.

its good to see Big Papi's got his priorities straight.

David Ortiz, the American League leader in home runs and RBI, says Boston's fall from the American League playoff race should not disqualify him from the race for the AL's Most Valuable Player award.

"I'll tell you one thing," Ortiz said. "If I get 50 home runs and 10 more RBI [which would give him 137], that's going to be a round number that no one else in the American League will have."

"But they'll vote for a position player, use that as an excuse. They're talking about [Derek] Jeter a lot, right? He's done a great job, he's having a great season, but Jeter is not a 40-homer hitter or an RBI guy. It doesn't matter how much you've done for your ball club, the bottom line is, the guy who hits 40 home runs and knocks in 100, that's the guy you know helped your team win games.

His self-promoting is a bunch of bullshit, and if anything he just cost himself some votes.

Weird how in two different sentences he says it shouldn't matter if you make the playoffs, and then says he'd cast his vote based on who makes the playoffs.
And poor Papi having no protection. Not like Manny is right behind him or anything.

I've always liked the guy, but he comes off as an asshole in that article.

However, we did get the top 2 MVP picks right:

Ortiz said if he had a vote, he might cast it for Jermaine Dye or Paul Konerko of the Chicago White Sox, or Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins.

"All depends on who makes the playoffs," he said. "Dye is having an unbelievable season, an incredible year. Konerko, too.

"Morneau, he's having a great season, but in Minnesota, there's no publicity. I bet you nobody knows who he is."

Whoever makes the play-offs between the Twins and White Sox, Morneau or Dye should win. If they both make it somehow...that would be one interesting vote.

edit: oh, and:

Jermaine Dye AVG .328 | HR 41 | RBI 112 |

HAHA ORTIZ EAT IT SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

AVG .308 | HR 42 | RBI 117 | OBP .439 | SLG .659

Who could that be?!?! Oh, it's Travis Hafner, best hitter in the american league!

Yeah, but Hafner is done for the year. It is unfortuante how he gets no love from the media though.

Anyways, Hafner or Ortiz will never win MVP awards. They could hit 60 homers and drive in 180 and people would still say "OMG THEY DON'T PLAY DEFENSE!"

Is he? I haven't payed attention to "the baseball news" in a while.

Whu happen?

Speaking of no media love, everyone talks about Minnesota's pitching and Mauer...how about Justin Morneau?

AVG .320 | HR 33 | RBI 118 | OBP .375 | SLG .578

Not too shabby for no one to know who the **** you are.

The thing about Morneau is that he was playing like complete garbage for most of the first half of the season. He had a pretty remarkable turn around. I remember being in a fantasy league where someone was upset because their autopick selected him.

I'll bet he regrets dropping him now.

Pre All-star: .300/23/73
Post All-star: .345/10/45

It was only about the first month of the season. The last week in May is when he really turned it on.

Well, I stand corrected. Anyways, he is probably the most ignored of all the MVP candidates. Nobody mentions him.

Well the last time if I'm not mistaken, it was due to a fastball to the head, which isn't exactly a minor injury :lol

Well, I didn't say it was minor. I said it was significant enough to cause him to miss a lot of time, actually. :D

Yeah, the Mets are getting absolutely clobbered right now.

Cody Ross just hit his 3rd home run of the game and has driven in seven so far to make it 16-3.

I'd be more upset if we didn't have the division locked up, but it's still a pretty harsh loss. The Marlins are a very dangerous team right now.

True, but do you think they're really gonna beat Texas tomorrow with Rogers pitching? With the way that lineup is scuffling? :lol

Scott Proctor in to get some work in, promptly gives up a homer.

Scott Proctor leads the league in appearances.
He pitched yesterday.
They have a 3 run lead and a 10 game lead.
He's pitching again today in the 8th inning.

Joe Torre, bullpen supergenius.

What a retard Torre is. It will be comedy when Proctor is getting shelled in the playoffs because he got ran into the ground by Torre.

Actually, Rogers has been their most reliable pitcher over the past few weeks, jackass. Tigers will beat the Rangers tomorrow, no doubt about it.

This White Sox/Angels game has been on for 45 minutes and we're already in the fifth inning, christ.

btw John Lackey is pitching a NO HITTER NO HITTER NO HITTER

Knowing Konex, Rogers will pitch a perfect game and the Tigers will score a bunch of runs.

If I'm a Twins fan, I'm kinda irked. Yeah they got the W but if it wasn't a save situation, he'd have been pulled. Why are they worrying about stats at such a crucial time?

Even after Nathan throws three walks, I trust him more in that situation that Juan Rincon the Roider, or basically anyone else in their (admittedly) studly pen.

It's your damn fault he walked 3 anyway. Shhhhh. Forget they exist.

He's lucky Torre isn't his manager

Nathan sorta does need to get some work in. But not that much. Haha.
