So he learns to stop the puck!!bjork said:Hockey is dead to me until the Whalers are revived. I miss those GREEN uniforms.

The NHL announced Tuesday that Washington Capitals' forward Alexander Ovechkin has been suspended two games as the result of a knee-on-knee collision with Tim Gleason of the Carolina Hurricanes Monday night in a 3-2 Washington victory.
Yeah, great deal. But at the same time he's 32 and probably has his best years behind him, especially now that he doesn't have a goalscorer like Kessel to give the puck to.vatstep said:It was posted at the end of the other thread, but it needs to be mentioned again that Marc Savard signed a 7-year contract extension with the Bruins today for only a $4.2M cap hit per year.
Deal of the year? This guy has bought into the system, has made huge improvements in his game over the years to become a three-zone player, and re-signed with the team at basically a bargain price (compared to what he would've been offered in the off-season).

Kingpen said:good on the Ovie suspension... No one should be above the rules of the league. He should have gotten suspended when he did that same crap on Gonchar last spring. I also sort of like the mantra of suspending a player for the same length of time an injury keeps out an opposing player that was hurt.
Kingpen said:Am I the only one here that thinks Ballard should still get a 1 year suspension for what he did to Vokoun (even if it wasn't an opposing player). I think the NHL shouldn't let this one slip away, cause it will be a pr nightmare if they let him get off with nothing.
How do Ovie's balls taste today? More sweet than salty?ForzaItalia said:Two games for AO is exactly what I expected. That boarding hit was laughable and even Lindy Ruff agreed that he didn't deserve a suspension for it. Pull up the video to see the hit for yourself.

_leech_ said:No, Laraque got 5 games.
Spl1nter said:Its a completely useless suspension as he is day to day anyway. Should have been longer.
What do you suspend him with. Its an incident on his own teammate. He will punished internally by the panthers instead.
Kingpen said:I think the NHL needs to make Ballard an example. You can't just let this slip away. He deliberately did the motions with his stick in a careless fashion. He even hit the dude, had to have know he hit something, then went back for a second wack.
If the NHL does nothing, the Panthers need to dismiss him from their team. I would feel the same way if it was Sergei Gonchar doing it on the Pens.... You just can't be stupid like that as a player.
Spl1nter said:I agree I just dont see what you suspend him with. I think it needs to be an internal suspension and fine.

Alucard said:I'm in line with this thinking. I really don't see how the NHL can suspend a player for committing an action against his own team, in a total freak accident. If anything, the team should make the player take a couple of anger management classes and fine him for being a poor representative for the organization.
I agree with one of the comments made there that the refs at least need to start handing out unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for that kind of thing. It's really unacceptable behavior, regardless of hitting someone or not.Manics said:Uh, he was frustrated and it was an accident, he didn't *want* to hit the guy in the head with the stick.

Then fucking waive him. This can be handled internally.Kingpen said:You would feel the same way if someone on our team, say - mark eaton , did that to MAF?
I would want Eaton off the squad myself... Give the roster spot to a deserving minor leaguer looking for a shot or something...
How the hell do the rest of the team even interact with that guy anymore? It would cause turmoil in the locker room for sure...
