I'm tanking for Kabanov!
wtf McDonagh too. Shouldn't Montreal be getting the prospects for taking that awful contract from NY.

From HF Boards:

gainey trades ribs for ninimma
Gainey lets koivu walk away
Gainey gets gomez for higgins + mcdo and a herrendous contract
.
.
.
.

Gainey is a moron who is turning around in circles

I think I will become a bruins fan

The good thing is that Sather's now primed to make a stupid trade. He has to. Even Glen is probably shocked and confused at the outcome of this deal. Burke needs to be all over that. Jason Blake for McDonagh. :lol

Though it wouldn't suprise me to see McDonagh end up in Ottawa as part of a package for Heatley.

Man, Gainey just got fucked up the ass by Sather, he did the Rags a huge favour by not only taking on such a terrible contract, but also giving up a good defensive prospect on top of it.

Only if we get Gagner too :D
Sorry. Doesn't work like that.
If Gainey's taught us anything, the Sens need to send us some prospects.

So:
Penner, Staios for Karlsson, 2010 1st rounder, Comrie

And then we do:
Comrie, Pisani, Roloson's rights (for 10 hours) for Heatley + 2011 1st rounder + Lee

Also, Sedins were offered $6M for 5 years by the Canucks.

Thankfully for the Sens, Bob Gainey isn't our GM

Maybe you can flip Penner to the Habs for Latendresse, Fischer and a draft pick :p

But I don't think Murray, even if Penner is his favourite player, would be dumb enough to give up Heatley and take on that contract without giving the Oilers a bad contract or two (Chris Kelly + Jason Smith) in return and getting a good player who can slot in the 2nd line at the very least.

I guess the only bright spot for the Habs is that they have A LOT of cap space left to work with but then again, how confident are their fans that Gainey is capable of making the right moves.

Even with this horrendous trade, Ill give Gainey a passing grade if he can successfully dump most of our RFAs/UFAs.

Nice food for thought for you guys stuck at work with me, and thinking about July 1 tomorrow.... From CNN talking about free agency busts recently
Nice.
I love seeing these deals backfire. I'm evil.

Also, Antropov = :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Would be hilarious if he and Hossa got matching contracts. The parity...the hilarity...the (in)justice...oh man.

:lol Gainey.

The Habs told their fans they were reloading. They didn't say they were aiming the gun at their head when they were done.

Redden for Latenstiff next?

This trade makes no.fucking.sense

Sather must have thought he was joking at first, this guy doesn't deserve to be a GM making such a dumb trade. Holy fucking shit, it just makes no sense at all.

1) It makes it harder to rebuild (if that's the goal)
2) It makes us LESS competitive, as Higgins is a solid player while Gomez retarded contract prevents the team from going after high profile FA's. Players that DON'T suck

edit: removed the bad joke

6.6m per for 5 years? Wow

Congrats on paying that much for someone who has LITERALLY never won anything.

Fuck, i'm starting to feel glad the Stars seem to be staying pat. Shit is silly this year.

JAYBO FUUUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK

Is Bouwmeester really worth $6.6 million a year? That's a huge contract that's going to handicap the Flames with the cap.

Well as much as it pains me to say it, Flames D is pretty damned tough. Phaneuf/Bouwmeester/Regehr all on one team is ridiculous.

But the contracts...

Bouwmeester: 6.6 per
Phaneuf: 6.5 per
Regehr: 4.0 per
Iginla: 7.0 per
Kiprusoff: 5.8 per (though this may be heavily front loaded)

I'm guessing maybe some of the other contracts are front loaded? Because that's more than half the cap for 5 players.

Considering Campbell got $7.1 mil for how many decades? from Chicago last year, $6.6 mil/ for UFA Jaybo is an amazing fucking deal. I can't believe they got him for less than 7. Looks like the market is going down this year.

Front-loaded doesn't help against the cap hit. Cap hit is averaged over the length of the contract.

According to NHL Numbers, that puts them at 52.2 mil for the year (which includes all bonuses ... so there might be some fancy number figuring that could factor in there to bring it down).

Jaybo sucks. His dickriders need to recognize.

There are exactly TWO D-Men that deserve to make 6.6 a year-Neidermeiyer and Lidstrom (maybe Zubov if he can get some artificial legs or something). Jaybo has never been proven to be able to even help a team win. If you're looking to be Cup contenders, you don't dole out this much money for a guy who you can't trust in the playoff trenches.

I say he's worth JUST under that (5.5-6). He's still good, but the rust is showing. I have some reservations as to what level of Pronger we're going to see this season.

I hate Pronger for obvious reasons.. but I take him over everyone.

He's just a cock to play against.

Phaneuf $6.5M !?!? Holy crap. That to me is overpayment in the league of Drury/Gomez.

I've felt bad about Rafalski getting 6 mil, but this really puts things in perspective.

Anyway, good for the Flames that they got Jaybo signed. I've yet to see the big deal about him, but maybe on a better team he will be more impressive.

With the money being thrown around, I think it's quite clear that Hossa isn't going to re-sign with Detroit. Where does he end up? Rangers? Minnesota?

Jesus, the Flames are loaded on the back end next year. New coach, new defensive mindset, new star D-man... Kiprusoff will have no excuses now.

Right now I'd be surprised if the Rangers don't get either Heatley or Hossa.

Chris Neil turned down $1.7 million from Ottawa. Detroit could use his toughness, but there's no way Holland offers him that much.

Rumors are that they're looking at Colton Orr as well. He's probably the more realistic (cheaper) alternative.

193 penalty minutes last year? We'll take it. We could have used a presence like that in the playoffs.
