NBA Season Opener kicks off with the Portland Trailblazers @ San Antonio Spurs. 8PM EST on TNT.

We know drama!

Mods, please change the topic title to "Official Oct/Nov NBA 2007-2008 Season Thread - AKA San Antonio's Off-Season"

Forgot to indicate that it's for October and November and a much more suitable topic title.

What a crappy matchup.

Not as excited about the NBA this year with Kobe about to leave town. Hard to believe the franchise will let go two HOF, one of them in his prime.

This must have been what it was like to have been a Bulls fan when Krause broke them up. On the other hand I was pretty happy that day...

I'm with ya bionic.

Like I said in the summer, I haven't been this depressed about a Laker season since Shaq was traded.

it's still going to be a fun year, but with no Oden and the Kobe drama bomb that definitely diminishes it some.

I wonder what's going to happen with the west, and how bad the cavs will fall off. There's not really an nba finals loser curse, but they didn't get any better, while most of the rest of the east did. Oh and I'm praying to god that the CeLOLtics show up in full force this season. I can't stand another sports thread taken up by boston bandwagoners.

Cheer up.
I have cheered for bad Laker teams in the past. I am bummed because our management makes the future look hopeless. Mitch Kupchak and the Buss family is going to turn the Lakers into the Hawks after they have run Kobe out of town.

At least Jerry Krause made us laugh when they got the number one pick in the draft. Mitch can't even do that.

As I've said earlier, if the lakers can somehow swindle Deng off the bulls, they'll have a very bright future, one that as a fan, I'd eagerly look forward to. Under the tutelage of PJ, Deng and Bynum would be a great tandem.

Of course that all rests on Kupchak's shoulders.

Uh, PJ is gone if Kobe goes. He isn't sticking out for the Bynumite era. I think Jeanie is going to leave the Lakers with him as well.

And Kobe is going to veto the trade if it includes Deng.

Lakers are doomed unless Buss gets rid of Mitch and disowns his retarded son.

This will be where I make one of my 3 Knicks-cheering posts this season before we embark on what will almost certainly be a 35-win campaign :(

But at least Eddy Curry's heart may explode at any moment causing him to contort a lot, and that is something I can take solace in.

GO NEW YORK GO NEW YORK GO.

Dude, we're in the East. the Celts have 45-50 wins easy

Go Warriors! We will probably have the best game of the night, and it's not on TNT :(

If you guys didn't read the NFL thread:

Congratulations you know now what I felt in the mid to late 1990s as a Mariners fan. We lost THREE surefire HoFers, including potentially the best player ever and didn't even have a title to show for it.

While I was quite saddened that such a dark day in Lakerland shined upon me the day that Shaq got traded, when Kobe goes it'll be like the dark clouds parting and some life-giving sunshine finally making its way through onto Lakerland.

Yes, they'll suck. But thats OK. I enjoyed the Vlade/Threatt/Peeler days. You never expected them to win any titles, but you knew they'd at least be making the playoffs.

I would have been happier if Buss and Kupchak didn't screw up what may have been one of the greatest NBA dynasties by not adding new role players to an aging roster and then letting two hall of famers get away when they didn't have to.

Instead be happy with stupidity and mediocrity.

Also I don't think dark days can shine upon you.

Haha. I blew that one.

But I do agree with you, it would have been best to put some solid role players around Shaq/Kobe as they got up there in age instead of trading Shaq away. I don't know that they could have rattled off any more back to back titles in that configuration, but they'd always be a constant threat to make their way out of the West year to year.

At this point though, I'm just waiting for them to trade Kobe now. I tolerated him when Shaq was around, always acknowledge his talents, but now its just becoming too much. I understand his frustration, but the dude has been unprofessional through this mess, so I for one will be glad to be rid of him.

He's like A-Rod in personality... only he's clutch in the playoffs.

Raptors will come out of the east with the 2nd or 3rd best record. You can quote me at the end of the season.

Oh well at least I have a scapegoat when things go wrong.

Don't forget that one of the GAF Fantasy Leagues is drafting tonight at 6! Don't get stuck with Kwame!

I don't even know what to think about the mavs. They'll still get a top 4 seed in the west, but it all matters on who they play in the playoffs (please don't be GS or Phoenix). We still don't have any athleticism. Drafting Nick Fazekas was the worst decision.

I think Mavs go 60-22 this year.

Jesus Christ, I forgot that one GAF league had a draft on the 28th. I ended up with the following:

Smush Parker

season over

I've been looking at this year's and past years' GM surveys...

*still doesn't understand why Duncan is billed as a PF*
*also doesn't understand how garnett barely gets any recognition for his defense or passing anymore*

on another note:

"The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced that guard Randy Foye has suffered a stress reaction of his left patella (knee cap). On Monday, Foye received an MRI and a CT Scan, which revealed the injury. Foye will be out indefinitely."

>_>

that means Telfair is our main PG, with Jaric as backup....

>_>

*hopes Wittman has McCants and Green share backup duty instead while Foye recovers*

It's okay. With or without Foye, we're only looking at 25 wins max this year.

Wow, good thing I have NBA TV. The Pacers have only three games on the league network this year and none on national TV. Going to be a long, sad year.

T-70 days until Jermaine O'Neil is traded...

Oh, good GOD. This man is INSANE.

I was about to look for a way to dispute that until I realized that he had the Atlantic division champs: The Toronto Raptors, finishing out of the playoffs.

Not that I really care about previews/predictions, especially this close to the season. We'll know soon enough what's really going to happen.

Someone join fast because the draft is in under 2 hours.

Eff. I should've checked in sooner.

To be fair, SI has them had #8, damn close to out, but yeah, pre-season predictions are generally useless.

"AKA San Antonio's Off-Season" :lol :lol

Nice title!

And I can't even imagine how bad Simmons will be when the Celtics are in the playoffs.

Well, ESPN got one thing right:

TOP 20 RANDOM PREDICTIONS FOR THE SEASON

1. The Lakers do NOT trade Kobe unless it's for T-Mac.
Either you're:
-Secretly hoping the Lakers go down the toilet. (Perfectly possible since your a POS Celtic fan.)
-A fucking moron. (Also perfectly possible.)

I still don't understand how anyone can take anything this guy has to say about sports seriously.

Kenny Smith took a sniff of what Simmon's had.

He doesn't even list LMA for his MIP award in his top 6, but Tyrus Thomas?! Idiot.

Don't worry, I never wanted him to make the rotation either. Remember my reaction? Matrix was all like "YEAH FRANCIS" and I was like "NO WAY".... *sigh*... that was great... </portal reference>

Also, Lazy Ass Bonzi is in the rotation, to your delight Reilo!

i hate all these analysts

"LOL LOL LOL Dallas is a regular season team. They suck in the playoffs".

Did it ever occur to them that the one team they couldn't beat in the regular season also beat them in the playoffs? NBA is about matchups, and they will go to the finals (yes, beating the spurs) if they don't get matched up against gsw or phoenix.
