Woot! I gots me my ps3 at midnight launch. Came at around 23.30h and was the only one there. At around 23.45 some more people started coming. When I was ready to pay for it I think we were with around 20-30 people. I have never seen early or long queues for a console launch, not with 360 or the Wii. Down the street another store was doing a midnight launch and they had the same amount of people I heard. We got some drinks from the store manager (jenever (strong alcoholic drink that warms you up), cola, etc) and some chocolate eggs and cookies.

First impressions: quiet, console looks expensive, feels powerful (due to low humming noise). Anyone know if you're able to cancel downloads that are in queue?

So what you are saying is that PS2 never generated lines in Europe (was launched 3 months after NA like PS3)?

No, we thought it was more fun to fight for the non-preordered PS2s at the midnight launch... :P

PS3 on BBC breakfast news this morning, family test it.. the kids say its fantastic, the mother says too expensive.

Yeah I've just seen that she said it would have to be a conscious decision and the negative points were brought up was price and B/C...

...Sony sure dodged that bullet.

You'll notice they're using the signs to hide their faces. :D

Hey iapetus, you used Amazon right? Whats happening with your order.

Mines been dispatched from Parcelforce with a 23rd expected delivery, and Motorstorm from Royal Mail on 23/24.

Well of course this wont get its own thread, although it does seem like Europe is somewhat divided as far as interest goes.

Mine's out for delivery according to the tracking system, with Motorstorm/Resistance expected to arrive tomorrow.

Edit: Actually the delivery date for the games has changed to 23rd/24th. I'm still not expecting to see them today, but there's always hope...

what the hell?? hahaha...thats going a bit far damnit

So for the price of an X360 I could get a PS3 and a brand new X360? Is there any way in which this is not the best deal ever? Bring me the hammer!

as far as i know there where 2 events :

1. climbing up a wall with your 360 - i f you reach the top an throw it down you got a ps3
2. smashing 360s on stage calling them crap...

:D :D

I remember there were queues, nothing major in Britain but the World's a different place now, it's the year 2007! Noone goes shopping anymore, they're always crying on the news that everyone buys on the internet sitting on their arse till it gets delivered, all the major shops offer free home delivery so we'll see if it sold more than it looks.

I always get nervous when doing firmware updates.. What if the power goes out? Happened once when I updated my router. TOASTED! :(

Ugh, just woke up.

Went out at 11am, caught the bus, walked into Gamestation at about 11.20pm. Picked my games bundle (saved £65 on Motorstorm, RR7, Resistance and VT3 - nice deal) and waited until midnight.

At midnight the shop was really busy, plenty of people in, mostly 25-30 something (hi!) males with big wads of cash. Queue was orderly (apart from one kid's bloody credit card needing about 10 minutes of authorisation) and they weren't letting people leave the shop without their own car or a taxi, which they were sorting for you.

Very good.

Console doesn't do 60hz in SD though, but apart from that it's wonderful.

edit: Not sure how the friends thing works, but if anyone fancies a game today (off work) my ID is nofi.

Then you'd reformat the drive and restart. The firmware would not be damaged.

I'm not sure why parcel force is not letting me track my order

:(
Mine was doing this, which means they haven't scanned it in yet, mines out for delivery but the date made me laugh!

Last tracked at: Welwyn Garden City Depot
Expected delivery date: 22-03-2007

PS3 takes itself into the 4th Dimension and allows time travel!!

My firmware said both 65% when I completed downloading it the other day as well as it finished installing at 65%. Freaked me out a bit but everything has been smooth sailing so no worries.

Really? If the power goes out during the flashing, it would survive? Thats what happened during my router update (I have killed two routers btw, the other time because of a faulty f/w :D), it was flashing and then the power went out.

Being that I'm so used to the 360 (dashboard) I like the xmb more than I thought I would. It's very sleek and straight forward.

Same here.

i think people have to keep in mind the price tag of this thing ... and the large number of preorders.

NZ stores had more preorders for the $1000+ ps3 than it had for wii or 360

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/story.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=10430396
Its been proven that article was frbricated BS Lambchop. They reported GPstore sold more PS3's than the Wii on launch day. Their reporting was a big, fat lie. FACT!

(Big Gaz is a staff employee of GPstore)

*Edit* and found official word from GPstore

So not selling well from the Gpstore perspective either?

It has done ok, however that bit in the Herald is a shocker... no one from the company has spoken to anyone from the Herald -- that's complete bollocks :)

There's one error that has been buggering me since I got the console last night and that is me not being able to add friends. Whenever I try to send an invite i receive the Error 80710017. Anyone in the know what to do?

you surprise me Wollan, with your level of PS3 hype I expected you to know the Error numbers off by heart by now ;)

Have you opened all the required ports on your router?

downloaded GT concept in no time...quite some good download speeds

...and it told me that I am getting the BD Disc (if there is enough supply)

How's this for abuse of power?

I was queued up with about 60 other people when a Gardai vehicle appears (Irish cop car). The gard gets out and everybody assumes he's there to protect us or something. He then skips to the front of the queue, bags a PS3, gets back in his car and drives off!

We all booed him, but it was fairly good natured.

Well, more anecdotal sales evidence from my local Tesco. They had 25 units available, which were being made available via preorder raffle the day before launch, limited to one per customer because of the high demand.

This morning they still had 19 available for anyone to buy. :)

Local game, went in this morning at 9 to pick up my PS3, it had been open since 7, they have had ~210 preorders and sold 25 since 7 in the morning, Gamestation had people buying it as well. Downloading 1.6 now, goddamit!!

Everyone is still at work/school/sleeping, silly.

Over $20 million of PlayStation 3 hardware pre-ordered.
With photos from the Sydney launch.

Despite us reporting yesterday that more than "10,000 people have pre-ordered the PlayStation 3", Sony has officially confirmed via a press release that more than $20,000,000 worth of PS3 hardware has been pre-ordered in Australia, and a quick calculation appears to indicate that equates to around 20,000 consoles.

Last night, over 500 retailers opened their doors at midnight to celebrate the launch of the console. One of the first purchasers of the PAL PlayStation 3 was Danny Darka, who was first in line at Myer Sydney. Sony's local managing director, Michael Ephraim, and Myer CEO Bernie Brookes personally handed the console to the new PlayStation 3 owner.

We've also included a few other photos of the midnight launch, which appears to have gone off without stolen consoles and injured parties. Sony should release sales figures for the console next week, so we'll report back once they let us know how well the console has gone in Australia.
