this is posted in the "PSP FIRST EMU" thread, but i think it deserves its own thread. the exploit isn't confirmed but they claim it isn't fake. guess we'll find out in a few days

apparently someone just released a vid of homebrew working on 1.5 through a loader

http://www.only4.info/psp-dev/

"English Version:

All of you have wished this. Yes, now we can load homebrew in PSPs with v1.5 firmware (we haven't try in 1.5x versions). With an exploit that i have just created today we can load any homebrew in our PSP. I must try to make it better, so you will have to wait.

The Release Day will be 06/15/2005 at 15:00 GTM+1 (Spanish Hour).

Note: THIS IS NOT FAKE, anyone who know us, know it's real. Thanks to all"

probably fake but eh

Video proved nothing other than they like The Prodigy, IMHO.

Is firmware 1.52 out in the US?

how did they fake it though? it actually looks real when they run the homebrew intro thingy. although the video is very low quality, you can see they chose the program under the memory stick in the game menu. it's possible they might have edited the the video after the psp bootup though

it said version 1.50 in the beginning of the video. unless you think they edited that too :P

Huh? Did I only get a partial download? I saw a 1.5 mentioned only after they booted their software. Not exactly a mean accomplishment to boot an app that displays "1.5" in its text, off a 1.0 unit.

Lemme redownload.

Edit - Yep, I missed the first part of the vid. Well, we'll see, I suppose.

So, would this loader theoretically boot anything on a memory stick? I know there were rumors that there were ways to dump games off the UMD onto a memory stick..

If so, this could get real ugly real quick for Sony.

Definitely not running on 1.0 because the screen fades out after the PSP logo.

I hope this isn't real and it never comes out so I can continue to drink your delicious tears. Ohhh! Yes, let me drown in your delectable sorrow! AHAHHA!!! I love my 1.0!

To his credit (Even though its probably fake)
As soon as it gets released, its likely going to be fixed in a new revision, perhaps he is trying to prevent that as best he can... or maybe not :lol

And that's why, if a real 1.5 exploit ever surfaces, that's the day I'm buying another PSP.

I fail to see the relevance of the chopped off S.

That's because the person who posted it was trying to be clever and was too stupid to realize that VLC was cropping off the side of the screen.

from the thread that faceless posted

CybBlade of our Forums (and iRC EFnet #PS2Ownz) confirmed tonight that PsP-Dev now have a working v1.50 exploit for running "homebrew" or unsigned code from it, similar to what NEM did for v1.00 firmware PSP users. A brief video of this in action can be found on their Web site HERE for those interested, and on 6/15/2005 (15:00 GTM+1) they plan to publically disclose the method used in Tutorial format to the world! We at Team PS2NFO congratulate our Spanish affiliates, and look forward to LOTS of nice "homebrew" releases to follow along with even more UMD dumps! Please post all related feedback on this VERY COOL news in THIS on-going Forum thread. Finally, we'd like to make it known that the legitimacy of this news has already been 100% confirmed by myself via high-ranking scene elders... so no, this is NOT another "fake video" nor publicity stunt- it's REAL!

OH SHIT

That's what bothers me. Why the f-cking game? If they got it truly working, that's more than enough street cred there, right? Blech.

its not like they're doing a publc service or OWES YOU ANYTHING to release it.

Guys, it's NOT a fake. These people are too well known in spanish forums to risk their reputation. If you know spanish, check this thread. You will see that no one doubts it's real.

If this is true, you have to thank me! Just bought an 1.0 PSP and sure this only happens because god hates me ;)

heheheh .... same here :D. I knew the moment I bought a 1.0 (day before yesterday) that a day or 2 later 1.5 would start working.

oh well, with the future forced upgrades we needed to have 2 psps to do this anyways right?

Either way Sho Nuff cannot drink my tears anymore. But I kinda hope it is the real deal so that everyone out there can have emu goodness.

Now imagine if you'd become disillusioned about 1.5 hacks happening and had already updated to 1.52... But I haven't!

I believe this to be an absolutely guaranteed fake.

That way I can be pleasantly surprised later in the week if it turns out to be real. :)

I really hope this works at least on 1.51 and 1.52 too.

That way we'll be able to play homebrew PLUS official games a while longer.

I wonder how game developers feel about coding their games to run only on the latest firmware. If there really is a 1.5 exploit millions of gamers will be able to decide if the want homebrew over buying games, which could seriously cut game sales.
