Official: SCEI re-confirms spring PS3 launch

Are they actually saying Spring, or are they saying Q2 and English people are translating that to spring?

Spring is a concept that exists in Japan, and this is a direct quote from Bloomberg Japan so yes they're saying Spring.

ports from xbox 360, internally developed stuff they've kept secret like with many of the PSP launch games?

The next-gen article mentions waiting for technical reasons - maybe waiting on the AACS stuff to be finalised? Maybe now its agreed they can work their spreadsheets and plan proper announcements?

The AACS specs are done now, that's the last thing I read.

Don't care what anyone says now. Come E3 everyone will be singing a different tune. Come after E3 everyone will be rushing to pre-order. A month later people will be bitching they didn't pre-order in time and are on a later shipment and the more obstinate ones will be saying "oh I can wait". Come launch they will be jonesing and on the boards screaming at Sony for not making enough PS3's at launch for their indecisive asses. They will bitch out ebayers next but secretly being bidding on one then "somehow" come across one.

In other words same ol' shit.
 
there will be all sorts of crow served, cooked many ways if Sony do manage to launch in Spring.

I have no idea if its possible but they are sticking to their guns on the spring thing. Altho i would expect to hear something real soon if they are going to do it.
 
So, ermmmmm, spring? O.o I don't see how it's gunna be possible, but, if Sony pull it off I might actually have to give them praise for once..... Or maybe I'll call them stupid.... We'll see. :)

Probably the same thing people said in a "Graphics don't matter, gameplay rules" thread a year ago, before getting into a collective circle jerk over the Killzone demo.

:lol :lol :lol Does anyone out there still believe North America is getting PS3 before the end of June? It was hogwash from minute one.

Anyway, spring ends around June 21...I think Sony can make it out before then. Just don't be surprised if nothing is shown anywhere until April.

And Europe will probably be shuffled off to March '07 or something, as they usually are. I hope they get more respect this time around, but it all depends on how quickly Sony can build those units.
 
That last factor is one Sony must be painfully aware of. By the time the PlayStation 3 launches, assuming that the company can manage to scrape a June/July launch out of the system, the Xbox 360 will already have racked up between 4.5 and 5.5 million sales - not a lot on the scale of an entire console life cycle, but certainly putting a lot of open water between the Microsoft console and the PS3 in the crucial first 12 months.

On the topic at hand...I think Sony is lying. I put my money on late 2006. Very late. Like December. 20th. In Japan.

I think that's the numbers Mircosoft hoped to have shipped.
 
so hold on, just because sony has not shown it means its impossible to launch in spring. Gotta love that gaf logic. Sony doesn't hemorrhage information like Microsoft (their employees actually understand the concept of NDAs). To put this in perspective, no one on earth even knew about the psp before sony showed a fully functional rev at e3.
 
It's also hard to say what exactly Sony defines as "spring", however. It's certainly not the traditional definition of the season, which covers the months of March, April and May.

SCEI denies the delay? Well, duh. Of course they're going to deny it. No company, especially not Sony, is going to be forced to change their announcement timetable. If it's going to be delayed, the announcement will be made when Sony wants chooses to, not when Merril Lynch chooses to. This is not news, and it's not anything to get excited about.

To be honest, that's a pretty cool date to launch it on...falls on a Tuesday too. Hell, I'm making that my prediction...Japan gets theirs June 6. You guys can ignore these threads now.
