Yes! That's exactly my problem with the film.

1st half = Golden comedy 10/10 stuff
2nd half = normal not that funny zombie movie 7/10 stuff

And what sucks is that the first half is so good that it makes the 2nd half look that much worse because it's such a drop in entertainment from the earlier parts.

Again. I'm of the belief that this "shift" is what makes the movie so damn great.

The same sense of drama is what makes early Simpsons episodes fantastic, but I'm in the minority on that one too.

Hmm, the SPACED episodes are edited EXACTLY the same way they were when Bravo showed them in '02. Same muted out words/phrases and commercials in the same spots.

At least it's being shown.

Noticed any differences in music? I'm trying to figure out if they had any trouble liscensing tracks -- apparently it's much easier in the UK to used music from Star Wars, etc.

I'm pissed.

I thought this movie had a nationwide release? I live in Wisconsin and no damn theater within like 200 freaking miles is playing it. Even the big ones. WTF. I wanted to see this movie tonight too. :/

Does anyone know the name of the song that plays during the title sequence?

Just came back from seeing it. Great flick! My friend said he would hate the film if it didn't have something the Dawn of the Dead remake sorely lacked -- zombies eating people. Not only did we get that in Shaun of the Dead, we got laughs as well!

And I think we've all come out of it a bit wiser.

Sadly, Shaun of the Dead is only on 600 screens.

And yes, this movie is the second coming of Jesus....zombie Jesus.

Just saw it.

I must say it's really a breath of fresh air. I love off-the-wall, tongue-in-cheek mixing of genres, and SotD really is a prime example of it. Nicely dispersed jokes, good zombie makeup and corny acting all add up to a lesser cult classic.

Shaun of the Dead was awarded the spot in the largest screen and theater in our local 24 screen Cinemark this weekend. Congrats! Take that Hollywood action movies!

Anyways, the movie was okay. It wasnt terrible but far from being my favorite movie of the year. The characters were really likeable though, probably moreso then any movie Ive seen this year. Shaun is just so adorable. The damn movie ALMOST makes me want to go move to Britian. Still, I had problems with it. It was funny but not really funny. It was more amusing then funny actually. It was great just watching Shaun run around a gauntlet of zombies bashing them in the head. And Its not that I dont get British comedies, because I love them a great deal. None of it really got to me

Although it was fucking awesome seeing David(?) getting ripped up and eaten alive by Zombies. That was just freaking cool

7/10 for me. I wouodnt put it in my top 10 this year but probably my top 20.

Were any other black books fans expecting somthing a little different from Dylan Moran's character, he has the potential to be so much funnier

And even i am moderately surprised
"Were any other black books fans expecting somthing a little different from Dylan Moran's character, he has the potential to be so much funnier"

*raises hand*

a total waste of Moran... absolutely no funny lines at all, and lackingthe kind of anger that makes his Black Books character so awesome

Yeah, 7/10 is about right for Shaun. Saw it last night and while entertaining it just didn't gel together all that well. The moments are great but the whole doesn't add up to much and is extremely forgettable. Certainly somewhere in the years top 20 but that isn't saying much.

Okay, so I think I might be ill.

I saw Shaun of the Dead again. Still loved it. Will probably go see it again before it leaves theaters.

And no, I don't work for Rogue.

It's just only so often that movie gets made that feels like it was made specifically for you.

Kill Bill felt that way. So did the first Matrix.

Anyway, the second time around I notices some of the smaller references:
In a work meeting Shaun refers to an employee named Ash (transfered from S-Mart perhaps?)

Director Edgar Wright appears to be one of the zombies that gets machine gunned near the end of the film. I recognized his scruffy beard.

Almost all of the tired/morose extras seen on the bus etc. return as zombies later.

Anybody else notice any cool in jokes?

In the end, when they are watching tv, the news announcer says "The theory that it was a virus caused by rage infected monkeys has been dismissed as bollacks (flip channel)"

All of Spaced felt like it was made just for me, so it was kind of an extension of that.

Wheels from Spaced as one of the zombies was my favourite. Also
I think he sits down to play Resident Evil at the end
.

My favorite zombie movie reference had to be:

When Nick shouts, "We're coming for you, Barbara!" into the phone at Shaun's mom. That line is a paraphrase of the first line of dialogue in the original Night of the Living Dead.

It's not the first line of Night of the Living Dead, but probably one of the most remembered (second to "Yeah they're dead....they're all messed up"). But that line was one of the few laugh-out-loud moments in Shaun of the Dead.

Thanks to whoever recommended Black Books. I grabbed the first couple seasons and it's great.....probably well-above than Spaced and Shaun of the Dead.

You're right. Not the first line.

I pray that
Shaun's slip in the blood
was one of your other few laughs. Otherwise, we may need to check your pulse.

Just got back from it. Definitely overrated. I mean, it was funny, but thanks to the two forums I read (this and SA) having droves of people saying it's the funniest comedy in years, and then to be handed a movie with an average of one funny moment per 7 minutes or so... and I agree with Border that the transition from funny to serious was awkward. It didn't help show character or anything, there wasn't anything revealing at all once they started shouting at each other. If the director wanted to convey the seriousness/direness of the situation despite all the comedy, he should've added another character to the convoy and had him or her brutally killed within the first 20 minutes or so of the outbreak.

Don't get me wrong, it was overall an okay movie that had some pretty funny moments, but the Euro's on this board and others hyping it as the next coming, and the majority of movie buffs falling in line with the opinion must've seen a different movie or more too it than I did.

It's a good enough movie, but the TV series Spaced by the same fellows is a lot better.

Sorry if we overhyped it, but Jesus came back and told me to tell you that Shaun of the Dead kicks serious ass.
