Official Sony PSP MPEG-4 video site

Old and pointless. Wake me up when Sony stops charging $20 for software that should be included in the box, or at least actually instructs people how to get it.

Stop being such a hater Kobun :p

At least they offer a nice tutorial video that simplifies the process. Now all that's required after that is to have an IQ over 60 to google "PSP Convert Videos"

I like the PSP as much as anybody, but you'd have to be a total fanboy to think that the way they're handling this is anything short of ridiculous.

If I'd gotten my Hi-MD player or Clie from Sony and opened the box only to find out that if I wanted to use it I was going to have to go online and Google some random fucking program that's written in Chinese so all the radio buttons show up as ??????? and spend a good hour dicking with the directory tree on the memory stick before I could do anything...

I don't care how easy it is to find and/or use the program. There should have been either a CD in the box or a URL to a free download, and the software should automate the entire process.

This home page is almost insulting, telling us how easy it is to watch video on the PSP then only providing a method by which we can watch Nike advertisements.

I totally agree with this. Sony's handling of the Mem stick features is so half assed...luckily I got a fan translated version of IC2 before the link died. But casual gamers are going to have a hard time getting to grips with the MP4 aspect of the PSP.

Click "Download" on pspvideo9.com (15 seconds)
Install pspvideo9 (1 minute)
Hook your PSP up with USB (15 seconds)
Copy the files you got from the Sony website, or manually create the folders (1 minute)

Encode and Copy files from pspvideo9

Yeah, I do get what you mean, I just think, since we have free programs to do it, we shouldn't be complaining.

I don't think they want casual gamers getting to grips with it. Charge $20 and only the dedicated will go for it. For the rest, wean them on Speed Racer and Sony Music videos for a few months, then launch a pay-to-download service.

Hopefully they'll neaten up the video handling, but that'd just need a :shudder: Sonic stage type application.
