Official SW:Republic Commando Thread!

Honestly, my opinion of BiA has risen quite a bit. It's obvious there are a few people in this thread that didn't take to RC; they found RC wanting in quality squad-based play. I am suggesting they purchase BiA. I don't see how that's trolling.

How is it trolling? You didn't even play the fucking game to completion. In order to say one game is better than another, you need to at least have played each game. Then, you can't even decide which game you want to put above RC, Snowblind or BiA.

I made this thread to talk about RC. You said you didn't like it. I was fine with that, your opinon is your opinion and you are entitled to it. Since then though, you've come into this thread repeatedly pronouncing how much better Snowblind was. Now, it's Brothers in Arms.

Fuck, some of you guys better hope they never make me a fucking mod...

You're the epitome of a "rabid fanboy. One who thinks his word is absolute, and no one in their right mind is entiteled to an opposing opinion even though you conveniently try pointing out the opposite.
BiA is a great game, and one which would likely appeal to a large percentage of those who either enjoyed RC, or found it's squad component lacking. I'm personally having fun with both games.
Why should he play a game to completion if he's not having fun with it?
Not everyone is a glutton for punishment.

I have no problem with anyone coming into the thread saying they didn't like the game. I would appreciate that they explain why they don't like the game, so when someone who is seriously considering purchasing the game can get an overall feel for what people liked and disliked. That's what I look for. I know alot of posters on this board that I share tastes with, and I look forward to their comments on a title I'm not too sure about.

Here are his posts in this thread:

I tried to enjoy this, but couldn't get into it. Returned it for Project: Snowblind, a graphically inferior but far more enjoyable alternative. It was too repetitive and plodding for my tastes. I've only played a bit of Snowblind, but the action is a lot more intense, the environments more varied, and the augmentations a nice plus. Again, the visuals in Snowblind aren't quite as polished as those in SW:Republic Commando, but they're not so bad as to detract from the gameplay.

If the demo didn't move you, the full game won't. I'm enjoying Project Snowblind a lot more.

Yup. This is a C+ title. If you guys want some great squad-based play, rent or buy Brothers in Arms. While I initially gave it a poor rating, the game picks up considerably, particularly when the tank arrives.

Absent the Star Wars license, Republic Commando would be soon forgotten.

Where does he actually come in and say what he found wrong with it? Where does he mention how far he got before trading it back?

I didnt like the demo(s).. but the game is actually pretty fun, it really puts you in the Star Wars universe, and I dont even like the prequels. Yes, its very linear and the squad commands are pretty simplistic, but this game is full of FPS goodness, no filler to be found here, just waves and waves of baddies to mow down. The last level was really fun, by then I had honed my skills into clone perfection and seperatists didnt stand a chance. The lack of cutscenes was a bit jarring, but the actual in game prodcution values are top notch. Single player is good but short, multi seems boring.. so for the budget gamer, I definitely don't recommend buying this at 50$ because of the brevity, but give it a rental or something, theres fun to be had.

Based on many comments reviewing the length, I decided it would be best to just give this title a rental for my XBox. Parts of it are enjoyable, but no matter how much I tweak the controls, aiming seems unresponsive. Also, the framerate seems to dip quite abit and I notice alot of texture tearing (askin to what your average PC FPS title would like look with vsync turned off). This is surprising, considering that that graphics, while nice, are certainly nothing overwhelming. Alot of the squad stuff seems over-simplistic and forced. In most cases, your commands seem like nothing more than simple scripted actions. Only you press A before the script starts. Killing enemies doesn't really come off as all that enjoyable - the AI is basic at best and the combat just isn't...exciting. I don't know, maybe Halo 2 and RE4 has spoiled me, but I've been fairly unimpressed so far. Maybe I had different expectations for this game. Still, I've got it for like a week and a half more, and intend on progressing through...

played it beat it returned it about 10 hours after buying it.

it's short and the online feature just did not do it for me.

as far as being out in the starwars univers. i'd have to not really agree with that either. it tries to but just misses the mark.

the controls are not very smooth, a tad clunky but they work well enough that you can stomp the game in 2 days play time.

i would recomend you rent the game before buying.

not bad but not anything that i was hoping for either.
Felt like i was doing the same thing over and over again every 5-10 minutes.

Yeah, I definitely have issues with the controls. They work, but they just don't feel precise. And did you notice those moments where the framerate dipped and the controls would get REALLY unresponsive for a second. One moment your gun would be firing very quickly, then you can see and hear it slooowing down as the action on-screen picked up.
