Official Tomb Raider: Anniversary Thread

Here’s some very interesting screenshots from the PC version running on my laptop. Every gfx at max, 2xAA and 1280x800 (16x10) – 60 FPS almost all the time. I completed the game for about 16 hours. Good game, I’ve completed the original four times – two times Saturn TR and two PSX version. I should write five pages review for a Bulgarian gaming magazine. My overall score is between 7 or 8 (max) out of 10. TRA is beautiful, but have some script problems, and overall the feeling isn’t the same. Some clever puzzle changes and very weak final. Amazing commentaries after you complete the game thought. Good work CD.

P.S. PS2 looks ugly in comparison to PC version on high setting. The problem is that Legend on PS2 looks far better than TRA on Sony’s console.

I'm using a PS2 controller on the PC version and i'm using this setup:

X - Jump
[] - Crouch
/\ - Graple
() - Shoot

L1/L2 - Interact
R2 - Combat mode
R1/R3 - Inventory (Or R1 for Grab if your using the manual grab)
L3 - Center Camera/View Hud
Select - First person view

D-pad Up/Down - Big Medkit/Small Medkit
D-pad left/right - change weapons

Works quite well

For anyone trying to get the $20 special price, the Best Buy deal isn't any good in my area. The local Best Buy has the PS2 version in their system, but the date has been pushed back to 12 June, after the $20 special price has passed.

It will be good. The game has not been pushed back. The Best Buy computer systems are often incorrect in regards to dates. It should be available soon enough.

It looks amazing with 4xAA, and it'd be worth any frame drops IMHO. It's so clean.

8xQ AA looks even cleaner along with a solid 60fps :D Anyone wanting to make clean lossless screenshots with making huge ass bmps, I suggest png.

Edit: I'm pretty far into the game as you can see by the weapons, I just took a shot early in the game as to not spoil it for anyone. This is a true tomb raider game. The tombs are absolutely awesome, and the game seems a lot longer then Legends so far. Absolutely none of the bullshit that was in the previous game (bike levels, non tomb levels, annoying people talking to you when you are trying to play).

Has their ever been a case where the ESRB rated something that didn't come out?

I'm especially interested in why they have all 5 rated separately? sudo episodic content?

WTF? Will TR:A be episodic on 360?

This game plays like a dream. Crystal Dynamics is the savior of Lara Croft.

Playing through a PS3 upscaling the game. Looks a tiny bit blurry, but still nice. I tried taking some pics for you guys, but it is impossible during the daytime because the light is POURING in through my windows.

I also took a vid of me platforming and then jumping to my death. It's about 30 seconds long.

Here's one pic I managed to pull off...it's kind of ass, but oh well.

I didn't mind the non-Tomb levels too much, they felt almost like a breather. Like a town in an RPG. Although I also liked the civilian areas of Angel of Darkness (shame the game sucked a lot).

I'm sooooo tempted to get the PS2 version for cheaper, but I'm gonna wait for a deal on the PC version instead.

I love how they kept the same locations and challenges, but changed the approach entirely to make it fresh and fun.

That game didn't need breathers because it was too damn short. Anniversary shits all over Legends in terms of level design and flow.

Sub par 30 FPS, not just blurry textures, but also some pixilated ones. Lower resolution. Noticeable aliasing problems.

My main complaint with the game is the image quality which is terrible on my CRT HDTV even with 480p...maybe the game with the worst IQ on my HDTV along with the PAL GC version of Twilight Princess...looks blurry and pixelated at the same time and believe me I've tried to adjust my TV settings to make the game look better but no results. :(

*prays for a 360 version*

The PS2 version hits sub 30FPS frame rates? I thought the reason the game was being focused on PS2 was to remain sure things like this didn't happen?

It looks fine to me. Drops occasionally. Nothing disruptive.

I really liked how the PC demo ran, but the analog sticks on my Logitech rumble pad are a little loose. I would rather play the game with the PS3 controller to get some better control, and as long as the frame rate isn't disruptive I'll be ok.

Yeah, the PC demo was nice...but I could not get it to feel just right. There was something off about the game even using a wireless 360 pad. It bothered me for some reason and I'm hoping the PS2 version feels better in that regard. Of course, it's the $19.99 price that has me going with the PS2 version really. It's cheap enough that I wouldn't mind shelling out for a potential 360 version down the road...

Can't you use the ps3 controller on PCs? I mean the difference in image quality is massive (plus framerate).

Get a better PC?

Game was flawless on mine and I vastly prefer the wireless 360 controller + a huge bump in resolution and AA over the inferior PS2 version. Plus if you want to play the game as cheaply as possible you can simply pick up GameTap which is half the price of the Best Buy special and cancel it when you're done.

There's no reason not to play on this PC if you've got the right hardware.

I'm almost through Lost Valley...I'll let you know momentarily!

This level is COMPLETELY changed. It's awesome.

But no 60fps like Xbox Legends? Widescreen though, yes?

Nope, no 60 FPS. That was only on the Xbox version of Legend, so it's not on the PS2 version of the game. I'm playing in 720p, but yes, it supports Widescreen and Progressive Scan.

Sweet I got my PS3 controller working with my PC. Analog sticks work great. Just signed up to Gametap for 99 cent TRA.

Wow, color me impressed. Just played through the PC demo, ran flawlessly, mapped to the 360 pad without a problem and played great. Finally an adventure game that doesn't freaking pan the camera around to every single objective completely ruining the puzzle solving and exploration elements.

Of course now I have to decide whether I want to buy it now or wait for the 360 version that popped up on the ESRB.

Get Gametap. 99 cents for the first month, cancel if you dont want to keep it. They have TR:A up on it, I'm downloading it now.

I want to play the game now, but the X360 listing has me holding off too. So I figure Gametap is a nice compromise in the meantime. :)

Does the game support custom resolutions? If I can play it on my HTPC (1152x648), I'll be going for the PC version over PS2 one.

I hate that a lot of games these days still don't allow custom resolutions. I can either play in a 1024x768 windowed box on my TV or set it at 1280x720 and it'll be too big and won't fit on my screen (@F#%).

Do you mean 1152 x 864??

I just fired up the demo and noticed that res was an option.

I'm late to this thread and don't really have time to wad through so here's my question:

How do you use wireless 360 cont on PC (takes an adapter I assume)?

Thanks.

Nope. The XBR960 CRT's screen resolution when displaying a PC desktop perfectly is 1152 x 648. Anything smaller and there's a boxed window, anything larger and moving the mouse scrolls the screen when at the edges and things are unplayable.

Half-Life 2 and Quake 4 let me use custom resolutions and fit them perfectly to my TV. Sam & Max I had to play windowed.

I going to nab a PC version at futureshop this weekend. I ran the demo at 1680x1050(my native res) and it ran smooth as butter for the most part.

I think still have the original Tomb Raider somewhere. I haven't tried running it since I got win xp.

Didn't see that resolution option. I'm also using the GameTap version which encrypts the files so I can't exactly poke around in the settings file to see if I can. Glad to know the resolution you're using, I have the exact same TV but haven't attempted to hook up my PC to it yet.

I use the 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver, works flawlessly and there's one less cable running to my PC. Here's a link: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360wirelessgamingreceiver/

Just finished the game and i absolutly love it. I would buy a remake of all the other Tomb Raider games if Crystal Dynamics was making it.

Like someone said already, Crystal Dynamics was indeed the best thing that ever happened to Tomb Raider.

Btw, i was just checking the voice actor for Lara Croft, Keeley Hawes on imdb, i just noticed theres an entry to TR: Legends II.

Wohooo!

Anyway, back to the game. Gonna see if i can do 100% today.

Man i love original Tomb Raider so much. I don't know why I did not buy this yet! Sounds like a guaranteed good buy.

To whoever asked: The thor room does not have the same music. The entire structure of the folly pillar is different. and awesome.

I'm completely amazed by how closely they've followed the SPIRIT of the original game and yet completely remade the puzzles, level design, and challenge. It's a whole new game.

BUY THIS SHIT OR YOU ARE RETARDED

Obvious for them to do. Major team on next gen CDC Tomb Raider and smaller team remaking older games for PSP/PS2/Wii.

Whatever, awesome, amazing.

Crystal Dynamics: Saviors.

It's so true. I really like Core but I'm afraid if they had continued, Tomb Raider would be dead and it was almost dead after Angel of Darkness. Crystal Dynamics has done an absolutely wonderful job and Anniversary is leaps and bounds above that of Legends and that's saying a lot as Legends was quite enjoyable. You can really tell they put a lot of heart and dedication into Anniversary. I like the little parts where you think you know what you're doing because you played the original Tomb Raider, but oh no something happens and you don't feel so smug anymore. I absolutely love that.

I really hope this does well for Eidos and Crystal Dynamics. They deserve it.
