Official Tomb Raider: Anniversary Thread

Dumb question, but did you enable it in options? I had to with the wired 360 pad...I think? It's been a week.

Won't let me. Grayed out.

Not that it's really much of a big deal. TR1 back in the day on a keyboard didn't have rumble and it was just fine :)

True, and I played TR1 on the Saturn which was even more of a nightmare without the extra filters and transparency of the PSX version. Those gimongous pixels were a mess! Moving onto TR2 was a total revelation in terms of visuals on Sony's system.

This game is awesome. The animals in the original version were scarier though. This time they make noises before they arrive, it really takes the suspense away.

In the original they just attacked you out of nowhere. Scary as hell back in the day.

I've actually never played the first Tomb Raider so all this is new to me. The only TR game I've sat down and really delved into was Tomb Raider 3 which was ridiculously hard, had to use cheats to even get past the first level.

Just finished one more Time Trial and Collected all artifacts/relics on a level, and look what i got:

:lol :lol :lol :lol

And she also gets wet:

I finally got around to buying it on Steam. Now I just have to wait a couple hours or so...

This is going to be awesome if the demo is any indication.

That's awesome. It's funny to think that that model used to make kids beat off and shit. OMG SO HAWT! and all that.

:lol

Great game so far, but I got really frustrated and stuck for like an hour.

On the lost city level; the section from the demo with the waterfall and the cog wheels. After the 2nd wheel and a little more climbing (jump to revolving lever -> rocks part of waterfall -> small cave) there is a lever and you pull it and see a cutscene of in the water directly below opening a gate.

Now I just assumed the final cog was in there and I spent an hour trying->reloading->trying->reloading to jump in the water and swim down and to the left to get into the open gate BUT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE. Like I said, ONE HOUR; hundreds of retries; and the current was pushing me too hard and when I tried to dive down it get bouncing me back up and I could never get in.

Finally I went back to the cog place and found the real way to finish the level.

Now my question is WTF is that underwater gate about!? I'm guessing it's connected to the hidden artifact in the level, but what the hell are you supposed to be doing with it?

I thought that gate was for the tunnel that took you to that extremely well hidden Small Healthpack.

Oh, unless you mean the one thats actually behind the waterfall. Thats the way to the next area... after you put the third cog in.

Bought it for PS2 and it's amazing. I was going to get it on Steam, but it's at freaking $30! What the hell, I thought it would be $19 like the PS2 version. Is there something extra added onto the Steam version?

The PS2 version is $30 too, you got it at a deal is all.

Wow, in the UK the PS2 version is £5 more than the PC version. I wonder why PC games are always like £5-20 cheaper than the console equivalents?

First off, this game is kick ass. I picked it up yesterday and played it for about 4 hours. Great, great, great pickup. Glad to see my PS2 isn't dead yet.

That being said, when I put this game in pro-scan and widescreen, the screen image all of sudden becomes a lot smaller. Like it's letterboxed AND pillarboxed. Is this happening to anybody else? Any reason why it wouldn't take up the full screen?

It's not just you. This is how both TRA and TR:L behaving in progressive scan widescreen. Don't know why.

That's pretty odd. Glad to know it's not just me though, thanks for the info.

hahaha Awesome unlockable!

I'm having more fun that I thought with this game. I was never able to complete the first Tomb Raider and I never started up TRII so this has offered up quite a bit of fun in replaying the old levels with new stuff mixed in.

Played through the first two levels. I'm really impressed with how good the game looks, never played Legends on ps2 so I don't know how that looked but this is great. SOOOO much nostalgia, lol. Been so long since I played the original, but things are coming back as I go through it.

Ugh, SO tempted to get this today for the weekend. Best Buy has it for 20 bucks! 20 freakin' bucks!

Any issues or complaints? Is anyone playing the game on a PS3?

What's the Profile bug I keep reading about? Do I have to create a new profile or else the game won't save properly? (PC version)
I'm 15min into the game, it's not too late to start again.

I don't know if your playing Anniversary on PS2 but both games are right there with the most impressive games (visuallly) the PS2 can offer.

My autosave data got corrupted and it looked like I was going to have to start all over, but I was able to start a new game then load my regular save from there. Odd.

Question: Does the game jerk around for anyone else in specific situations. I've seen it happen a few times, usually as Lara is climbing onto a block in a tight space. The camera will kind of fling around to another angle quickly, and Lara will appear to skip a few frames in the climbing motion (it still goes by quickly, so it's not like video lag). Is this happening to other people? Is this an issue with the ol' LCD?

It's magnificent so far, and I am playing on a PS3.

I'd like rumble. :(

Wow, this game is a total steal at $20. Very polished, and lots of really fun exploration and platforming. I only had time to play through Croft Manor so far and I am already coming up with overly complicated solutions to the puzzles. I'm sure I'll be pulling my hair out by the end of the game.

Sly 2 does indeed suck. Don't expect much improvement in the end either. Join Lara and play a GREAT game!

Seriously, I don't know whether I should pick up the PS2 version for $20 or wait for the supposed 360 version just for the prettier visuals.

Thank you for sharing, but do you think it's possible you could set that as a spoiler?

I wonder if they are going to remake any of the other games? I would really like to see Crystal Dynamics just do the whole series over. It could honestly use it.

I'm almost done. I think I have 2 more chapters. I'm semi-curious as to where the story goes. It will make TRA that much sweeter. :)

I'd happily replay this in 6+ months for prettier visuals and achievements. $20 is a steal right now though for such a content packed game.

Might as well finish, the final level is kinda interesting....huge and pretty at the least. But not exactly the savior for an all-around dopey sequel.

Some mighty words there. Okay, you got me. Buying it during lunch.

Man i seriously hope Crystal Dynamics will remake all the other Tomb Raiders.

I'd rather have new Tomb Raider games that play like TRA/TL but with original and creative new locations.

I had a major bug at the end of Greece:

After the cut scene with those... gods or whatever they are, after you fight the horsey guys, I could run around the battle arena, but it was still locked to me as a battle arena. Couldn't go in the water or up the temple steps. Also, the three gods were hovering in mid air all stuck inside each other. And Pierre's body was flying. And the two shields had moved, and were also flying. It was like this for ages, but after I went to the menu and saved it (in a new slot, obviously) it automatically sent me right to Egypt. Very strange.

TR2 remake wouldn't be too bad. Some great locations in that one, but the snowsled and other assorted vehicles were often more frustrating to the experience than anything.

I personnally gave up on TR3 in disgust about 1 hour in, and never played TR4(which I hear is actually quite good and ties directly in with the original in some ways). So I'd be interested in that, but it won't happen.

TR5 aka Chronicles was decent at best, but extraordinarily buggy and rushed particularly on the DC. Game-breaking bugs all over the place including a massive one near the finale. So infuriating.

Yeah, like, new ruins and tombs. No populated areas, please.

Actually, one of my favorite parts in TRL was scaling skyscraper at night. Skyscrapers make for good climbing and look nice :)

And the museum/show was pretty freaking awesome.

So actually, I guess I don't mind not having ruins at all, as long as the levels look good and are fun to platform through.

Yeah. I know people complain about being out of Tombs, but the Japan level was really fantastic as far as level design goes. Plus lara wore a nice dress.

One thing I've noticed is that TRL is much more linear in design. Not totally....you do often have a "hub area" where you return to for solving a large puzzle (the Ghana water wheel room, for example), but TR1 is almost entirely like that. It's kinda neat.
