hm -- ps3 won't play sacds through the optical out for some reason. it gives me a "select a different output" message or something to that effect. i don't know much about sacd, but this doesn't seem to be a limitation of the format. weird.

Actually, it is a limitation of the format. The format requires encryption for digital outputs and that means HDMI. With no analog outputs on the PS3, it's the only option available.

Why do you have SACDs?
 
that makes sense. i happen to have a couple hybrid cd/sacds, and i thought i'd try them out. the cd and sacd layers sound different, but i'd probably need better equipment to hear a real improvement.

Hey guys, sorry if this has already been asked but...

How is the PS3 as a DVD player? I have two sets of component inputs on my TV, but three pieces of electronics (a DVD player, a 360, and now the PS3)... and I don't want to spring for one of those overpriced splitters.

Is it any good? Thanks!

Sorry to say guys, but the remote play on the PSP doesn't work properly. My router has a WPA-PSK (TKIP) connection and on the PS3 it only allows for WPA-PSK (AES) connections.

This sucks. :(

They say that the browser is slow? My god I've been using the PS3 browser for 30 minutes now typing on GAF and on Youtube watching video clips and I can't tell the difference in speed.

Seriously man I'm typing this post now on a SDTV. Can't wait to get my HDTV in a few days. Teh p0rn will never be the same. :)

No it remote play doesn't work like that. It goes on the internet from your PSP and connects with your PS3. Now I can use the USB cable to access my music, videos, etc on the PS3.

But yeah this kinda sucks right now.

Does that mean you can use it on a tard pack with a wireless ethernet bridge, or is the option just not available there?

Also, does anyone have a changelog of what's new in PSP 3.00? Seems like the PS1 emulator does need a PS3 after all?
 
I set up Remote Play before I left for vacation. Are you saying I could have my roommate boot up my PSP and I could connect?

the ps3 is region free right? i can buy any US games on my japanese system and vise versa right?

because i am thinking of buying motorstorm japanese [ with no online ] to hold me till the online US version of the game.


so can anyone confirm or something?

So I'm going to pick up a PS3 the first time I can find one. I was just wondering what games everyone is enjoying the most?

I'll be picking up Resistance: Fall of Man & Ridge Racer 7. Any other games I should be getting?

If you ignore the framerate issues, Tony Hawk's Project 8 looks great and makes perfect use of the Sixaxis.

But Resistance (and in a way Ridge Racer) are the only must-have titles at the moment.

these 2 games are the only games i bought [ and wanted and love so much ]

R:FOM online with like 30+ people is just awsome.

also i am buying motorstorm and AC4 if AC4 is english friendly
 
Any love for F1? The demo (after you turn off the assists) shows a lot of promise imo:)

Besides F1, all I'm getting this year is Motorstom (I have Ridge now, Genji and Resistance are on the the way from Yesasia).
 
F1: Looks great, but I can't play F1 games to save my life. I suck hard at them.

PS3 as DVD player-- works better than the PS2, that's for sure. I can nolonger use my universal remote, but the gamepad interface has been improved. Video quality looks better, at it handles widescreen properly when the PS2 never really did. That's about all I can say.

Well, when I see the ps3 game listings at Play-asia, none seem to have region protection....this really gives me a boner. A lot of the asian versions are half the price they cost here ffs! In the end next-gen on ps3 may be cheaper for me than last-gen (and the 360 and maybe even Wii). Every game I'll buy will be from play-asia, no belgium store will get my money on ps3 games.

You can play SACD's in 2-channel mode by changing the sound setting to the Multi-AV cable choice and ensure you've plugged the Left-Audio and Right-Audio into 2 analog ports on your receiver. The manual does state for Multi-channel audio of SACD's you'll need an HDMI port.

NBA 2K7 is a must buy for basketball fans. MUST BUY!!! And yeah download F1 and Motorstorm demo.

And please buy the Blast Factor game. It's freaking addicting. My high score is 2 million points I belive. Yeah I'm nice.

>.< Yeah I realised after I wrote that, that yes stereo analog is fine from the PS3. I was caught up in thinking about multichannel audio. Sorry.

I would buy it, but it seems a bit half-done. Nevermind that there's no music. Where's the 2 player support? Does it even have leaderboards? Any online support at all? No sale.

It has a leaderboard, I think.

I couldn't care less about the music, but I found the gameplay a little too simplistic based on the demo. Not a lot of variety. And the tilt thing is an annying gimmick that could be accomplished better with shoulder buttons.

Yeah, it has online leaderboards, it's pretty obvious cause the menu item is there and functional even in the demo (though read-only).

Ha ha, no, not yet. Very soon, though. Gamestop received an e-mail from Sony stating that the next batch was shipped last Sunday and will be arriving this week (ranging from Tuesday to Friday, depending on the store) and they claim that they will be shipping enough to finish off all pre-orders that are waiting. I'm next on the list, though, so even if they only receive one unit, it's mine. Hopefully all goes according to plan. :)
 
i haven't played it much, but blast factor seems really interesting, in ways that might not come across from the demo. the tilt mechanic and the recharging repulsor are cool, though the former would work better if it was just mapped to the shoulder buttons. later on you need to use them to fight certain enemies. also there's the "blast factor" itself -- enemies caught in the explosions of other enemies will explode as well, which gives you a chain bonus. most of the scoring seems to rely on the number of consecutive cells you can beat without losing a life.
