PlayStation 3 Podcast: You Ask, We'll Answer.
Send us any and all questions you still have about the system and we'll answer them in our weekly Podcast.

November 6, 2006 - By now you should know that we're finally in possession of an honest to goodness PlayStation 3. While we've been working day and night to put up every bit of info that we can gather and answer your most pressing questions, there's always something else to talk about. Later this week we'll be recording a Podcast to answer as many of the outstanding questions that you have about Sony's next-gen system, so we want your questions.

Send all of your questions our way via this form, and don't forget to include your name so that your friends can hear us screw up the pronunciation. Before you send your most pressing questions our way, you might want to check through our launch guide and our recent in-office coverage of the system to see if we've already answer it.

Thanks, and have fun storming the castle.
This should be most interesting. :)

So I'm at EB, I walk up to the counter and ask "Can I cancel my PS3 preorder?"

"Yeah, but are you sure you want to do that? Have you heard of Resistance, that game is gonna be awesome!"

"Yeah, I've heard of it. Its going to be cool."

"So do you want to go ahead and preorder that?" (:lol )

"No I've already got it preordered, I want to cancel that too."

"Alright buddy, your loss, I'm surprised your not gonna try and hawk it on eBay."

"I'm not an asshole."

"lol right right, so let's go ahead and cancel your PS3."

[the transaction takes place]

As I'm walking away the dude behind me in line asks the counter hop "Hey cool, does that mean I can get that preorder?"

"Yeah sure man."

My heart sank as it dawned on me I really wasn't going to be able to get my preorder back. No Chimera to slaughter, no Storms to Motor, no 4D, no cross-bar user interface.

On the plus side I removed a 900 dollar albatross from around my neck (you know, after games, cables, memory card reader, warranties and taxes) and now have Gears and Zelda paid off, and I will still be able to eat over the next two weeks!

So you would be an ass**** for buying something and finding a buyer that finds it worth whatever he is willing to pay for it? But it all works out for you because you just saved yourself a new system, games, cables, memory card reader, warranties and taxes that would have most likely been free after the resale!

Yeah I'm 18, and I don't have any interest in profiteering. I'd rather some honest gamer or family get it.

I have seen a PS3 and I have held the controller!

Today I went to my local Target to see if they had Extend Every Extra (they didn't) but when I got to the PSP section I noticed there were no games at all and instead a banner for the PS3 and then I saw it a PS3 just sitting there behind the glass and there was a TV and a PS3 controller ready to be played. So I pick up the controller. I like it, I like the squishy triggers, and it really is light. Also the sticks seemed smaller and different than the PS2's. I tried to turn it on using the middle PS button but nothing happened. I asked the guy at the counter why it wasn't on and he didn't know and then told me he couldn't turn it on right now. Bastard so I guess I will go back sometime this week and see if it is hooked up and turned on.

Funny thing a little kid and his grandmother came over and looked at it.The kid pointed at it and said "That's it that's the Playstation 3 I want it for Christmas." the gandmother looks at it and says "Wow. Surely it isn't that big."

So, the PS3 does NOT ship with an HDMI cable, yeah? Just making certain in order to avoid ending up with an additional one...

Tomorrow huh? maybe they were going to put one of those games in the PS3 they had a target.

What store?

Side note, I called GS at Hickory Ridge about a Wii kiosk and the girl said "a who?" Guess that's a no.

That's noble, but at the same time, you coulda sold it to someone like at cost. I'm one of the BB refugees looking for a system. :( Oh well, you did a damn good thing regardless. Hopefully the dude behind you wasn't a scalper. ;) PEACE.

It was the target over off poplar by the oak court mall, they had the system there and a kiosk set up with the controller and everything.

So has the forced install been discussed already? NBA 07 installs game data to the hard drive, and it seems you don't have a choice about it.

Kind of hard to read. With Genji and so forth putting 5 or 6 gigabytes on your harddrive to reduce load times, I'm starting to think the 20 GB models are going to require a user upgrade fast.
Yeah in one of the engadget videos it (NBA 07 that is) did the install, but it was relatively fast (only a few seconds) so I'm not sure how much space was put on the ps3 itself.

are you sure its 5 gb for every game? perhaps its a 5gb partition of the hdd thats set aside specifically for all games

Well, I have no idea how much NBA installs, but Ridge Racer and Genji are around 5-6 gigabytes each.

But those are manual installs, this sounds like a pre-caching like the xbox used to do. Hopefully

It seems to be a different amount for every game. But yeah, most people getting the 20gig unit plan on upgrading the hdd anyways. Hell, im getting the 60gb unit and I plan on upgrading one of these days.

how are you an asshole if your selling a system someone is willing to pay that much for and they are happy about getting the system
who says they are happy about paying 1500 for a 600 dollar system? :lol

Because they're making the economic decision to buy it at $1500?

Anyone who thinks eBaying a PS3 is unethical is an idiot.

I wouldnt say thats happy, more like desperate.

Again, just because they can pay that much, doesn't make them 'happy' to be gouged. Ebaying is not unethical and amoral. It somtimes seems dumb to me that if it were a company restricting supply and tripling the price people would flip out, but its ok for group of consumers to do.

mdm said:
The consumers aren't restricting the supply though.

That's the difference.
the mass of ebayers ARE restricting the supply to regular consumers most definatly. yes the supply is low anyway but retail stores wouldn't raise the price regardless of that. In Japan retail stores are given open pricing on the 60 gig model and they are jacking up the price. Stores aren't allowed to do that here, so the consumer does it to each other. again not saying they are doing anything wrong, it just suprises me that some people see it as being different if it were done by a retail chian or other consumers

This might surprise you, but auction sites like eBay are made so the final consumers set the price.

It is the true market economy.

Buy it Now shit sucks though, yo. I know when (hopefully when and not if) I get my launch PS3 it will arrive on the open market at $599.99 (or $499.99 if I'm unlucky). Any gouging will be the choice of the consumer.

Not to mention that getting a PS3 on day 1 is the most luxurious of luxury items.

yeah its true free market economy, but the outcome is the same, regular person pay well over msrp. My point was just that it doesn't seem to be better in a case like this where the price raise from your fellow consumer is just like you would get if the retail chain were allowed to do that to you. that kind of gougingis bad enough that we can't allow stores to profit that way, but if I can make that extra money its ok.

Man, I'm just not feeling this console right now. I don't know what it is - probably the feeling of "already been here" that plagues most of the launch lineup (except Resistance and a few others).

Hopefully by launch I'll get really interested again. Help me GAF!

You're right, people are stupid.

I also assume most of the japan titles have already shipped, or going to be very soon?

OK I broke down. I just asked my wife to get the inlaws in Japan to get me a PS3.

I will then have great anecdotal evidence of how long it takes disinterested old people to buy a hot item.

Will they actually get one before the European launch?

I think i might trade in my xbox 360 with extra controller and ridge racer 6 for the ps3. I was looking at it last night, still regerting that purchase, and well even though I bought it for lost planet, nothing else on the horizon is keeping me from selling the system. So after many debates about this, i finally concluded that the ps3 is more of a system for me.

So how much of a trade in would i get for a premium 360, ridge racer 6 and extra controller or am i better off ebaying it all?

I feel the same way with xbox 360. i mean what difference will the xbox 360 do that the xbox didnt do with better graphics?

I don't see how anyone except the wealthy would pay 1500 and up for a PS3, it's just not worth it. it cant be THAT good.

I mean if a system was completely new and high tech in everyway with Virtual Reality or Holographic projections, re: total immersiveness, then okay yeah, but all PS3 is, is an HD version of PS2 with faster CPU with more cores and Nvidia graphics this time. play HD movies instead of SD movies, a few features here and there......
