Official US/JP PLAYSTATION 3 Launch Thread

Tsutaya are ****ing testing my mettle here...

they now have their PS3 display running (videos) and now they've put out shelves of mock boxes for all 6 of the amazing Japanese launch titles ( :( ) and the bastards aren't taking preorders for the games or the machines....

Are you ****ing testing me satan!?

Anyways, i need to get me on some US PS3 game preordering action.

TWO WEEKS from now i'll be freezing my nuts off somewhere probably threatening to kill some japanese geek who decides to ignore the queue containing gaijins despite that queue having been there for a whole 24 hours (arseholes)

Try the jack thompson method and post a sign saying "gaijin only"? Otherwise I suggest a handful of coins and the river city ransom method. Or a miraculous US preorder. Good luck :(

I made these up special a while ago . . . Use at your leisure (as per usual)

Cool and all...but I think they're excessively wide, which sucks for anybody using an under 1600res. 800px or so might have been nicer. It also shows up really washed out for some reason?

lets not get ahead of ourselves, its 21 days, 3 full weeks. I have a countdown timer thats off by one hour. Anyone know when we turn the clocks back?

2am October 29th.

m0dus said:
I generally use that width for 1280 x 1024. I hate to use anything less than that, as most of the 720p screenshots will be around that width to begin with.

Well, as somebody running in 1280x1024 it was going off the side of the screen, so I appreciate the shrunk version. :)

Only 21 more days to go (exactly 3 weeks from now).

:)

I haven't been this excited about a console launch since Dreamcast. This is a much bigger event for me.

Field confirmation of support for existing PS2 multi-AV cables.

Eurogamer said:
Flipping the console over (gently now), the base features the hard disk slot, where the 60GB drive resides, while the reverse is home to the hard on/off power switch, a slot for the PC-style kettle power lead, and video outputs for HDMI, the PS2's traditional Multi-AV-out (we've used existing component and composite cables with no problems), and an optical audio output.

Now, they should swap out the hdd and put in a bigger one to see how that works.

I'm guessing the sad face is from the screws? I wouldnt worry too much about it, its a debug unit so they probably dont want them messing with it anyways.

It's because it's so transculent.

For those that have been begging for a rumble controller

Asked if Hori was considering a peripheral to give PS3 players the gift of shake, the representative stated, "We have some ideas. However, we'd need cooperation from software makers."

Let's hope some third parties are willing to make their games compatible with a non-standard rumble accessory.

It'll be interesting to see how many devs will still support rumble without Sony backing it.

problem is. i never liked any third party controllers. they usually die fast on me and i just dont feel comfy holding them

+ what you said about about dev support for it. which is close to zero probably

Wtf? How can eurogamer get a debug until 4 months before the EU launch when 1up (according to scoot) still doesn't have one 3 weeks before the US launch?

I wonder, is Sony planning on releasing a USB WiFi adapter (similar to the 360) for the 20GB PS3 (so it can utililize the PSP wireless features).. ?!

IGN UK, Eurogamer and PSM3 UK all have their PS3's.

Looks like there will be no PS3 for me on launch day. I've asked around, and no store in my area has any units left - they've all been pre-sold/pre-ordered. Shit. ::cries::

I suppose I'll be hunting for one later in November or December, which probably means I'm screwed until 2007. ::cries harder::

AFAIK marvel & rainbow six might be the only ones with out voice chat, but its been noted a patch will be issued for marvel a few days after release to enable voice (so i dont see why ubisoft couldnt do the same for RSV). Again somebody correct me on that if I'm wrong.

Logitech devices are the only one's I've ever picked up before and was ok with... They're pretty good quality...

On a bigger note:

RSV - PS3 No voice chat? none? wtf Ubi... That's just BS right there... **** you Ubi, **** you in your stupid ass...

Hope this isn't old, but there's an interesting article here on the marketing campaign for the PS3 launch:

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2006/11/13/8393083/?postversion=2006103013

They're spending $150m, the campaign officially launches today.

Turn on your TV this week and you may see a striking commercial: An animated baby doll sits in a white room looking at a small black box. It coos with delight. It laughs with an adult's demented cackle. Tears flow down its cheeks - and back up again.

And just for an instant, an image from the PS3 game "Resistance: Fall of Man" flashes in its eyes. Will anybody notice it? Of course they will. The spot is one of the first commercials for the PS3, Sony's next-generation videogame console, whose rabid fans will surely scrutinize it.

But there was a larger point to the game that TBWA is playing with these fans. On Oct. 24, Tequila unveiled the second phase of the Web site, featuring the first of two explanatory videos about the guts of the machine - the PS3's much-hyped cell processor ("The cell is 40 times more powerful than the processor in the PS2") and the virtues of its Blu-ray HD DVD player. ("It isn't high definition. It's higher definition.") In other words, this is where TBWA and Sony lay out the case for spending $599.

The videos seemed more like traditional ads than the Web site's mysterious alphabet. But appearances may be deceiving. "Who's to say we haven't hidden some clues in the videos?" says Davidge. "There are a lot of things that people still haven't discovered on the Web site."

This may be the creepiest commercial I have ever seen. It ran during one of the WS games and afterwards all the people in the room - about a dozen in total - seemed frozen in shock until one of them broke the silence with a fitting, "What the the hell was that?"

That makes no sense.

Euro mags need to run damage control to fend off switchers to the 360. In the US you're gearing up for launch so no real need for impressions anymore - just body armour.

Reminds me of the Mr. Plow commercial

Was that your new commercial?
I... don't know
