That video was cool. All that calm, relaxing music in the background almost put me to sleep, lol. But the PS3 was too sexy for that to happen.

yeah that was pretty damn cool. You know the hype is overloading when you're just looking for excuses to see the system again : )

16 days... starting next week the days will start to fell longer lol

Grrr. This is something that has been bugging me; now that quite a few journalists have had hands on time with the final models, why hasn't anyone actually tried to open the removable drive caddy?
It will void the warranty. PEACE.

really? huh i never thought about that. I was planning to sslap a bigger HDD in my core asap, nut if it voids the warrenty, I'm not ever trying to touch it. Who knows how long before my launch unit dies. I have faith, but all the sobbing x-gamers with overpriced spaceheaters scare me

.. I hope some japanese dude will try the backward compatibility on Nov.11 ... I'm kinda tired of not having any details about that.

We already have the details, its completely BC and doesn't have any visual upgrades to the game to insure that it works properly.

Here's the details:
1) Stick in PS1 or PS2 disc
2) Game starts
3) ???
4) profit!

Sorry, guys. I was just kidding around. I can only assume the flap doesn't actually open right now. I know you can see the drive through the plastic in certain shots. My first instinct with any device is to flip open any unsealed panels. PEACE.

Oh good, I'm not the only one with that kind of fetish then. :D

SSX, has there been anything said about installing PS2/PS1 games that you already own (in disc form)?

You mean like HD Loader? I really doubt that's going to happen, Sony would get in a lot of trouble with publishers if they allowed that.

As in loading the image into HDD?
Don't think that works. Even the PS1 downloads don't play on PS3 on day 1.

:(

I was hoping that they would set something like that up but with restrictions (that would block people who are pirating ISOs). Its all good though, I'll just use HDLoader on the PS2.

Yeah pretty much. Mainly using the corresponding emulators for the games you install. I would have loved being able to install my fav PS1/2 games on the HDD for me to access without worrying bout disks.

It's not just that. What's to stop someone from renting, borrowing, or buying then returning games and storing them on their harddrive?

ahhhhh thats true, that didn't cross my mind. So they would have to come up with a system like the PS3 and its games to actually partially install the games. That wouldn't be possible though since the PS2 and PS1 games aren't built around this.

Though, I think the original HDloader (the one you purchase) requires a disk check (checks for the original disk in the drive) for the PS2. Its the one you install through an exploit that bypasses that.

Hey, if we're lucky, Sony will have at least allowed the disc drive to work at 8xDVD. That and the better seek times should help with loading. Sadly given that 'fast loading' was relegated to an option (that didn't always work) for PS1 B/C on the PS2, I'm not entirely hopeful. Some benchmarks would be nice to see from the journalists who have working units.

Oops, thanks for the details guys... or no thanks.. cause I would have hoped for any kind of enhancement.
Well, at least it works, unlike "another" "next gen" console.:lol

I figured I'd ask here instead of staring a new topic.

Will any wifi adapter work with the PS3? Say a linksys one?

Not sure about the PS3 but I think any Bridge should be able to connect to the PS3 (through the Ethernet port) and act as a WiFi adapter and work. Not sure about ones that connect through the USB.

I did this with my Xbox360 but turned my linksys router (WRT54G) into a Bridge. No Official MS Wireless Adapter needed :D

We probably could've seen the visual upgrades had they got the emulation working but that didn't happen. So far the PS2 downloadables are aways off from now.

You CAN use a wifi adaptor with the 20 gb model. That QA was referring to whether Sony was going to (somehow) incorporate wifi --->internally<--- on the 20 gb model post launch
Are you assuming that? Because it's not at all indicated in the Q&A. I'd also like to ask why you're so confident that you can use an external wifi adapter?

They say "Not Currently" which basically sounds like they'll be releasing one specifically for the PS3 at some point.

In the debug/test units sony is senting out, the hard drive bay seems to be screwed in, so I wouldnt expect them to be able to remove it. I'm 99% sure the retail units will be easy access if you choose to replace/upgrade it.

My EBGames told me they are only expecting 4 PS3s...wtf is that? I'm number 16 on the list.
they told you after you preordered??

When I preordered, the guy told me that he didn't know exactly how many he would get in on launch day. That was back on Oct. 10 or whatever.

I called today to follow up and he said he is only expecting 4 PS3s on launch day for sure.

Sounds like you're second or third shipment, then. Some EBs just took as many preorders as they could and let people know clearly they could be bumped to a later shipment...

ouch, my eb knew exactly how many they were getting (16, 2 for employee's making it 14). Thats kinda messed up in your situation though. They should of never let out pre orders if they didnt know how many they were going to get, imo of course.

Then of what use is the ethernet port on the back of the 20gig model for?

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere else, but Famitsu has confirmed (via Gamefront) that the PS2 version of FFXI is fully compatible on the PS3, and that similar online titles that make use of either the network adapter and/or the HDD, will also work. :)

Oh my.

That has nothing to do with the discussion of 3rd party wireless adapters, which would be connecting via USB to the PS3. The ethernet port can be used facilitate wireless gaming by connecting it to a wireless bridge, but that won't support any of the native PSP connectivity and will be seen by the PS3 for all intents and purposes as a simple wired connection. Typically, you would be expected to connect your ethernet port to a switch, router, PC, or directly to a cable modem for accessing the internet.

Yeah, the fella said I might not be on the first shipment. I'm cool with that.

I'm still suprised that they are only getting 4 systems, though. I figured every EB would get at least 10 or so.

I guess I'll be camping! I'll probably go to Walmart. If the line is too long there, I'll start a line next door at Sam's Club.

:lol Same here.

So here's a question, will the PS2 titles that did take advantage of a HDD (FFXI, FFX or X-2 I believe, and a precious few others) be able to recognize and utilize the PS3 HDD?
