Official US/JP PLAYSTATION 3 Launch Thread

The german USK rated a Demo-Disc named 'Playstation 3 Blu-ray Demo#1'. I wonder if this is a Disc for Demo Stations or if it is packed with the system. :)

I was able to play Casino Royale mp4 file and Gran Turismo HD trailer which I downloaded from playstation@network. Another cool thing is that I m now typing this message via the PS3 using the Logitech wireless keyboard and wireless laser mouse. Its pluga and play. Very cool

Oh snapz I got that set in my house! :D

I set the console interface and time zone to English/Eastern Standard Time, but as previously reported the Playstation Store region can only be set to Japan/Japanese. I'm going to need step by step instructions if I'm going to be able to register :(. I'm on a screen where the best I can tell the fields are:

Choose ID
Password
Confirm Password
Accept License Agreement
Choose Secret Question
Secret Question Answer

But I filled them all in and it comes up with an error page (in Japanese of course).

I really hope that doesn't say "sorry, we've detected you don't live in Japan.." :| If it was a message aimed at importers or people abroad, though, you'd think they'd put it in English too at least.

I thought I'd throw this statement in here too from the AVS boards.

Wireless k/b and wireless laser mouse are in full effect on the PS3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hehe, that's pretty cool as that's what I'm using to type this on my PC right now :P

I've never bought a keyboard for a console, so it's kinda cool that I'll finally be able to have K/b + mouse support without having to pay an additional cent. Hopefully a lot of FPS games or games with text chat will support it.

Same but with UPS. My damn package got lost and RESCHEDULED...UGHHH. I'm fine with UPS messing up now and then but NOT WHEN I WANT MY PS3 :(

I hope it comes tues :(

Aww. Sorry to hear about that. It's pretty annoying when it happens on things you really want badly. :/

What's up with the massive syncing? Seems annoying
yeah, I can't really think of any reason why it would have to be that way either. But at least it happens as an overlay, letting you deal with the syncing while the game proceeds to load.

I asked this on another thread, but...

What happens when you put in an audio CD? Would the PS3 function reasonably as a CD played witht the TV off?

Also, paid off my PS3 preorder at GS just in case. The guy there said that they expected to get enough PS3s to cover pre-orders, and that I needn't worry since I was first in line anyway.

I figured it out. The ID needs to be an email address. I muddled through the rest, and am now downloading the Casino Royale trailer :)

Got my HDMI cable today. 15 bucks from monoprice...

There is no reason to not use one if you can. So cheap.

with HDMI ps3 will output with the same standard resolution like component cable ( 720p, 1080p... ) or also with 1366x768 etc... ( like vga cable on x360 ) ?

can someone try an MPEG2 .ts file burned onto a DVD-R? Its supposed to play that format on USB drive but its not practical to lug my HDD around whereas burning a cheap DVD-R or RW is simple

most files are more than 2GB and 4GB sticks are expensive.

can someone also recommend a good set of component cables? I can either get Game's own, or I can find spectravideo or intec ones easily on Amazon. Or should I get first party ones?

The HDMI standard does not support those oddball resolutions. Nothing to do with Sony.

Lemme contribute something that might be useful. Apparently, if you are unable to get a PS3, you can still register a username through your PC. You can do this when the PS3 launches in the US.

Maybe if you had spent less time being a malcontent, you might have noticed that that info had been posted at least a couple of times now. Thanks for making the effort though.

Playstation Store doesn't seem to support any form of background downloading. Sucks, as my broadband isn't exactly the fastest.

Huh? It's just another way of saying the system will be patched. Gawd.

Everyone here knows I'm very interested in the PS3. Stop being so defensive.

EB Manager just called me, they're inviting pre-order customers into the store as early as 6:30 Friday morning until open to pick up their PS3's in peace. We'll basically each get the store to ourselves for 15 minutes to get our games / accessories and then check-out. He said otherwise, we would have to wait in line with everyone else (hmm? more ps3's than the pre-orders?).

My Friday will look like:
1 x 60GB PS3
1 x Extra SIXAXIS
1 x PS2 Memory Card Adapter
1 x Resistance

And I'll get to play with it, all before heading into work at 10.

That's quite a relief. Presumably that means you can play online too since you're registered (although I know you can't test that yet).

That's good to hear. I hope I get that call. I think my manager bumped me up on the list because he knows that I'm keeping the system. I think I'm 6 now instead of, like, 14. Our store is supposed to be getting 16 premiums.

why did you lie?

Pre-order allocations might not be met.
I was 7th in line when I pre-ordered, and a few people in front of me chose 20GB's. (Edit: There were 13 spots total)

Hopefully I'll be OK. Also interested in whether employees who pre-ordered are considered at the beginning or end of the line.

When I powered on the PS3 with an audio CD inserted it played automatically. The L1/2 R1/2 buttons can be used for seeking and switching tracks. When I put in the CD when it was on I had to select the CD under the audio category. Not sure if the behavior can be changed.

Shit, here I thought Gamespot was low balling their allocation (IIRC it was something like only 60,000 units after you added up total stores and average of 12 per). So I guess either Sony is considerably below their 400k target or a huge majority of that allocation is going to Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal Mart et al.

holy ****. this is ****ing crazy. god.....i swear....man...shit....I dont even know what to say.
Tell me about it. I'm incredibly pissed off right now as I am NOT getting mine. No chance.

There's no way I'm camping, as there are likely to be an insane number of people doing just that.

I really wanted a new system to play with over Thanksgiving break. If I can find one, I *might* just consider picking up a Wii on Sunday instead. It's true that I'm only interested in Zelda, but that's likely to be a huge game.

:'(

I've pretty much expected this which is why i'm also getting a Wii. I just hope that like the Europeans people in the US will be able to register their names also on the 17th.

I'll give ebgames a call later tonight before they close and pray to god they get enough for me to make the shipment. :(

Thanks. I suppose I could reset to PS3.

This is only an issue becuase I have a projector, and it takes a moment to warm up. I'd liek to just pop in music and play it.
