Official US/JP PLAYSTATION 3 Launch Thread

I hate you all with your PS3s. Mine is stuck in customs, I won't get it until the middle of next week at best, and then I'll have to pay about $200 for custom taxes.

are you getting audio through both? I'm connected by component+phonos and optical. If i select optical for audio them i don't get sound over phonos.

i just turned down my reciever, no sound coming from tv with hdmi when optical is selected :(

That sucks. There should be no auto select at all. Sony should fix that on some other Firmware update too.

Like someone mentioned before, I also use the TV itself as a center channel of sorts. Also, I don't like having my Receiver on all the time. Sometimes I would like to play my PS3 with sound coming out of the TV.

It's all over the Norwegian media about the US launch. They mention all the wild situations that has been reported including earlier vise president candidate John Edwards trying to sneak in line.

Busta Rhymes picked up a couple of consoles as well:

So, where are all the threads of people's first impressions? I guess they all are recovering from their camping experiences and probably sleeping it off...

thats coming in the morning for me but to sum it up quick

-blu-ray video is omgwtfbbq

-playstation store has nothing on xbox live due to the fact you cant do anything else while downloading

-no one else in America is playing RR7 right now period

-system has froze 3 times on me (twice while listening to music and testing browser)

-its quiet as hell, but it gets hot

-game saves can be copied to another memory source to backup, music, pics, and mp3s can be saved to the HD from another memory source

-aside from the freezing incidents its a real nice sleek machine and i`ve been more fascinated about everything that it can do besides play games (which it does well) , as long as it doesnt break down this thing is worth every penny :D

Yep, its one of the things I love about the 360

Download something, hop on a game while it downloads and then notifies you that its down downloading.

Damn UPS screwed up my NBA 2k7 delivery....going to have to wait until tomorrow for impressions.

My PS3 is slowly coming together though, I hopped on Resistance online + played against some of the japanese players and came out even 7-7 in one game of team deathmatch.

So what are the chances of me waltzing up to my nearest BB/CC this morning, get on the line half an hour before store opens, and getting a PS3? Slim to none?

I was hoping that someone in line went home at the last minute or something and/or they have more PS3s than campers. Seeing as how most would not line up now, because they know that there are already so many campers out there... Think I should give this theory a try?

Older 40" 720p LG tv right now, but the HL-S6187W (was orginally getting the 56" but caught a good deal) should be delivered in about a week just in time for thanksgiving.

never got a camera on me but I'll try to later today.

its one of the things I like about the 360 dashboard too in the last few months. Took a year for us to get it though, so don't be too harsh on the PS3 for not having it out of the gate..

Wow really? Its such an awesome feature. I would have been really annoyed by having to let my Xbox360 sit while it downloads and do something else

I had no idea Twisted and Mckmas8803 lived like right down the street from me! :lol

Maybe I can just come play your PS3's, :lol. I still have to finish FFXII and Okami for crying out loud, no time for a PS3 just yet. I do somewhat miss participating in launch madness though - but it seems much more risky to one's physical well being this generation than last though.
 
Not sure if it's been mentioned before this page, but has anyone else been watching the news this morning? CNN's been covering the frenzy and they showed video from one store where they had the brilliant idea of having their line-up of 30 to 40 people line up, run 30 feet, and then grab one of the 10 systems...

Needless to say, the guy that stood in front of them to say "go" got stampeded over and injured. It all got caught on tape too; showing every 30-60 minutes on CNN Morning it seems.

They did a PS3 vs Wii thing too with 4 kids (likely around 12 to 14 years old), and at the end, they had to choose. 3 chose Wii, and then the guy asked the 1 kid that chose the PS3 what he thought, and he told his friends "you guys aren't real gamers".
 
I just got owned at Sams Club. They got them but I couldn't get it because I'm not a business gold member. So I had to watch business gold members walk in and get them. Also I can't become a business gold member until 10am either. **** you business gold members.

I'm very jealous. The 360 and PS3 are all I need as incentive to graduate school as soon as I can.

TTP is downloading Fedora Core as we speak..(I think!). So we may have a GAF First of Linux on PS3 later :D

My PS3 has shipped :D :D :D Hurry up Monday..

Serieously, i know you want your name bad, thats why i tried to register that (just for testing purposes) then again, i only tested BAD BOY wihtout the _ between them

I tried: Wii, playstation 3 , Ken Kutaragi, phil harrison , XBOX360 but everything was already taken :D

Cool! I'm realling looking forward to running Linux on the PS3.

I'm going help out with getting the PPC version of CentOS 4 up and running on the PS3. Should be fun.

BTW, the interest in the Linux community is quite a bit bigger than what people have probably guessed. I don't know how many of these people will buy games, but I don't think Sony has to fret about selling consoles.
