after 40 hours in line managed to score 2 ssytems in bestbuy here in mississauga. 40 hours in heavy rainstorms and below freezing weather sucks!

An out-of-state goon squad showed up at the Kmart here and used raw force of numbers to enforce a constant rotation of four or five of them in the two front line spots. :lol I'm almost tempted to nastygram their corporate about it, especially after management blew me off when I complained about being crowded/shoved out of position by them with a "We're not the line police"---even though they set it up.
On the other hand, the Walmart here both got more than expected and took preorders on the next batch. When that batch is is the question---I'd love to see it next week, but I'm close enough to the front where .

Really torn between picking up RR7 or NBA 2K7 to go with Resistance in an hour. I have RR6 and NBA 2K6 for 360, is 2k7 a big upgrade on 2k6? RR7 looks good but I'm not sure if the new tracks are enough to make it fresh from RR6

played some more this morning after picking up Gears of War
Resistance seems like a pretty run of the mill Call of Duty shooter but with some nice weapons and very expansive scenery. Still quite linear with lots of blocked off routes and allied soldiers signposting which way you should be going. Seems I was right not to pick up COD3 on 360 - this'll do me fine for my FPS fix.
Played lots of the motorstorm demo too. Liking it a lot now, especially in first person view when there are lots of other racers around you.
Managed to get some of my movie files working with sound. eg House .ts file with embedded AC3 track played but with no sound. I ran it through VLC to change it to a PS formatted .mpg file and its fine now. Also managed some nice 1080i demo clips - averaging 20Mb/s and look really nice. I think PS3 will become my standard HD movie player (for downloads at least - actual movies I'm still 15:1 in favour of HDDVD)
Sound is a little irregular on the games. eg if you highlight the motorstorm demo the soundtrack is *way* louder than the main PS3 sound effects or other games. Nearly blew my head off the first time I did that.

considering that Sony are trying to bring in new stocks regularly, are stores doing anything to prevent this happening again and again? (think back to the 360 multiple launches)
eg if 100 people line up but there are only 50 units, wouldn't it make sense to at least let the other 50 get preorders or something?

I didn't get a PS1 until a week after launch, and I didn't get a ps2 for over a month and had to pay a scalper. Finally, a Sony console day one.
I got Resistance, and a second controller. No memory card readers yet.
I'll pick up a movie or two later today.
The sad thing is-- I won't be able to play until midnight or later, probably. Work, dinner with friends, James Bond!

My dog was actually hit by a car about 2 weeks ago and I had to have the money to take care of him and my brother was planning on buy a 360 last week so I gave him the 100 dollars from the preorder to buy Gears and help with the system and spent the rest of the money on vet bills.
The only games I really wanted was Resistance and RR7 so I figured I could get them with the system when it was easier to find (hopefully April-May) along with Heavenly Sword and MotorStorm.

I want nothing to do with Genji. To be honest, software wise, the PS3 might be the dullest launch in quite some time. My brother is going to score 2 PS3 units, he's just on his way to pick them, but I realize I'm more excited to try out Mission: Impossible 3 on the Blu-Ray format with it.
Resistance is like the only big time game that you can't play on other systems. I love the Ridge Racer series but it's more like an expansion pak of the game I already played last year on the 360. Even the PS2 had like Madden NFL, Tekken Tag, SSX, and Dynasty Warriors exclusive.

Geez, my GF and I just woke up to the freakin' sound of a helicopter...we turn on the news, find out it's filming the dang PS3 lines at the Best Buy and Sony store in the mall across the street...

just wanted to say grats to everyone that was able to get a ps3. despite one of the worst launches ever you came through.
