The slow-mo crashes need to go from Motorstorm, at least there needs to be an option to make it so. Each crash lasts like 12 seconds.

I agree. The crashes last much too long.

I really enjoyed the demo, though. The kiosk demo has some issues (poor framerate, ugly textures, and other oddities), but the game felt really good and was faster than expected. I can't wait to play the full game.

If I can get ahold of a PS3, I might just grab the Japanese version and play that as I have zero interest in online play.
 
Downloading the System Update now, but it's going reaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllyyyyyyyy slow. Like, maybe a % or two each minute. Are their servers getting slammed or is my connection lacking yet again?

I'll disconnect my torrent-loving roommate from the network for a moment and find out.

mine seems ok... 12% about a minute in. sucks im using component, i hooked it up and had to run the first setup in 480i, then change it to 1080i. that 480i was scary, i feel bad for the ppl using the cables that came with the system on a hdtv

They haven't shown up yet, but there's still hope for today!

Vennt, my connection is horrible horrible anyways. My roommate running a 13 kb/s torrent will cause the entire connection to slow below 56k speeds.

I'll see if downloading the update from the web and tossing it on a memory stick makes will go faster.
 
Is there a thread with Friend's list names for adding yet? I'd like to add a few people here if they wouldn't mind, like Bebpo, Jonnyram, DC, BuddyC, etc.
 
Did anybody have issues with the network settings? I plugged the system into the same router that all my other consoles are jacked into and I keep getting connection errors.
 
I swung by the mall near me this morning. Best Buy got in 30 systems(manager was pissed)and Target got in 8. By my estimation, if you weren't in line 24 hours ago at the Best Buy you didn't get a system.
 
Picked it up no problem at GS with Resistance and RR7. Getting the system update now. First impression, the controller is light, really light
 
Don't know if you saw my thread BuddyC (Made it around the Japanese Launch) but if thats the same Firmware update, this is what it contains (supposedly)

Whole (overall system changes)

* It reached the point where the service of PLAYSTATION Network can be utilized.
* With the picture keyboard of European language, it reached the point where it can do the letter input of single tap system.

Setting

* Music CD output frequency was added to music setting.
* ATRAC is made effective, added to substance setting.
* In type of keyboard of peripheral device setting, type of keyboard which can be selected increased.
* The “cross color decrease filter” was added to display setting.
* 5 minutes later option added to screen saver options in display settings.

Video

* When playing back the animated picture file which is retained in the hard disk and the record media with picture mode, it reached the point where full can be chosen.

Network

* Downloading music and the animated picture file with Internet browser, it reached the point where it can retain in the hard disk.
* PLAYSTATION Store - The following contents can be downloaded.
o PLAYSTATION 3 standard software
o PSP with the PlayStation standard software which operates (PSP system software version 3.00 or more is necessary)
* It corresponded to traditional form letter Chinese and simplified form letter Chinese indication with Internet browser
* The online manual was added.

Other

* In addition Calculation method of hard disk capacity was modified.
o As for empty capacity of the hard disk, the numerical value which calculated 1GB as the 1024?024?024= approximately 1,073,740,000 byte is indicated. Because of that, capacity than the numerical value which is stated as specification is smaller indicated in the instruction manual and the like. Setting the ⇒ [substance setting] the ⇒ you can verify the empty capacity of the hard disk, with system information.
* PlayStation of the part in PS3 and operational status of the PlayStation®2 standard software were renewed. You can now verify up-to-date operational status with the private search sight.

In order to do the update (as you may have guessed) you will need a PS3 and an internet connection, and can find the update using the (system update) symbol in the PS3's XMB. The PS3 will then download the update which according to the download page requires at 110MB free. You can also download the update onto your PC via Sony or from our QuickJump download site and then transferring the update which is named "PS3UPDAT.PUP" to a USB storage device and then to your PS3. We will not host the download due to legality issues which could ensue if we did so. If you are in Japan, own a PS3 and would like to get the update then make sure you visit the official Sony PS3 firmware update page before doing so, and make sure you copy the "PS3UPDAT.PUP" file to x://PS3/UPDATE folder on your console.

Mine isn't that slow, about 50% in 4-5 minutes.
 
Under aged kids should not be allowed in malls during a school day, dammit!!! When I went to pick up my PS3 there were soo many kids hanging around inside and outside eb in the mall.

Thankfully they didn't try anything.

You can check hard disk free space under [Settings] > [System Settings] > [System Information].

Just got back with my 20gb PS3, that's right, tard pack ftw!! Oh yeah, Resistance & Marvel too.

I gotta get this off my chest, I swear,I'm never, ever going to participate in a console launch, in my neck of the woods again, at least until I can get a gun license. It was that ****ing bad. First a guy who pre-ordered the console was told he was part of the unlucky ones (from 8 consoles and pre-orders, EB only got 5) and he threw the biggest ****ing fit I've seen a 30+ish year old guy throw, screaming profanities, shoving EB workers etc. The manager threatened to call security and he left saying he was gonna sue the store. Sadly no magazines racks were harmed.

Not 5 minutes after that, I get my console, with games, pay for the insurance, and the lady is bagging it as I hear a voice in the back clearly say "Yeah, that one, the guy in the front, gray shirt, just paid for it...." I discreetely look around and there's a group of 5 guys, stereotypical "reggaeton" wannabe punks. 2 of them pass me by and leave the store but I notice they stand still near the entrance, while the other 3 are blatantly staring at me and another guy who was also paying for his stuff. So I call a co-worker/friend of mine who's still at Toys R Us across the mall, and tell him that I need back up and that some serious shit is about to go down.

My friend got there shortly, all badass and shit, then as soon as the 3 guys start circling us, still inside of EB, giving us dirty looks and checking out my bag of PS3 goods from afar, he freaks out, which in turn I freak out. To make matters worst, a guy comes in and I notice he starts talking up to the other 3 punks, so now there's 6 of them, we're ****ed if we leave so we act like bitches, quietly ask the EB guy if he can call security. I point at the guys with my eyes and he nods, telling us to stay put near the register. 20 minutes later cops arrive and as soon as they do the punks start walking out of the store and the first thing one of the cops ask is if we got jacked as well. Turns out the guy that was next to me while I was paying, left first, and got his ass whooped in the parking lot, probably by the other 2 punks who left the store early and stood outside for a bit. Since my car was not that far from the main mall exit the cops were cool enough to escort me outside, and wait while my friend got his car, then in turn drove me to where mine was parked.

Shit, I still can't believe things are this bad, I got the PSX, DC, PS2 and PSP at launch and everything was calm and went smoothly, no shady characters. In that other PS3 thread a while back in that other thread about the launch and picking up consoles, I jokingly suggested another poster to carry an aluminum bat, I guess I should've followed my own advice. For the fellow puerto ricans here, that's the ****ing EB at the Plaza Las Americas mall, the one next to KB Toys and the big ass fountain.

Sorry for the long rant, but fel free to add my story to the PS3 launch GAF Drama Theater.

I'll post pics of my loot in a few minutes after my heart rate settles down a bit and I grab something to eat.

exactly what i got :D .. waited 24 hours, i was gonna sell it but after going through all that **** it... i ripped that baby open.. played a round of resistance MP.. now off to work :'(

im downloading motorstorm demo, 456mb.. and to all those things about the ps3 being silent, its not really, not as loud as 360 but i can hear it, and its VERY hot already, just from the system update

Well, they seem to note some pretty minor things explicitly, so I think that's just a qualifier to cover themselves if something is found later.

Yeah, Resistance has the first uptade on the disc, like PSP ones, just takes about 5 minutes to do it.

While waiting outside EB, another guy there said that at a Walmart, people were lined up since 6:00am but there were cop cars all over the place since the parking lot is a huge, far off place.

I thank God, that at least those retards stalking me were so blatant and stupid to tip me off to their shit, otherwise I would've walked out and gotten the same ass whooping that other guy got. I'm a 5'9 158lbs., with little to no badassesness in me, and against 6 guys I don't think I would've stood a chance, even with my buddy backing me up, since all we had between us was a 12lb. PS3 box and a ball point pen.
 
41 hours of camping in the cold and wind and I got my PS3. Haven't opened the box or touched the box other than its handle. It's locked up in my closet at my house and I didn't even consider it bringing it to my dorm. It's going on eBay whenever I have the time to put it up. Hope this was all worth it.
 
Evil Ways, that's one f-ed up story. I went to EB before 10AM (before they officially open) like they told me and there was this one dude just hanging out the door who said he was just waiting for it to open to "check something out" I was a little nervious that the guy was going to jack me when I walked back to my car. Luckily I was parked right in frot of EB. I back in so the trunk was there and open by the time I walked out.

2 things... 10 minutes in, 32%, its also killing my internet, my computers internet is so slow when downloading on the ps3, dont know what buy it crawls. not being able to do anbything while downloading ftl! i dont want to have to remember how bad this was on 360 a couple months ago :(

and ZOMG 2 of the luckiest guys on earth showd up at ebgames this morning.... it turns out NOONE WANTED the 20gigs so they rang em up and sold them O_O

I asked if they had an HDMI cable (mine still has't got here from monoprice) and the cocksuckers said $70 :lol

They also had a wii kiosk. I played excite truck and I wasn't that excited.

****! 76% "an error occured while downloading" then the playstation store like freezes up and doesnt let you click anything. i had to go back to the dash

A manager of a local Wal-Marts around the Buffalo, NY area messed up bad. Right before launch, he decided it'd be a good idea to hold a drawing to see who gets to purchase a PS3 and who didn't, regardless of what place you had in the line. He did this because he supposedly felt bad for all the late campers that showed up waaaay after the ones there 2-3 days ago.

Anyway, it turns out that the 1st 2 campers didn't win get picked. Chaos obviously ensued. The manager was being threatened and followed to his car when he tried to leave. Cops had to be called. Not sure what happened in the end, but what's up with all these retarded Wal-Mart (asst.) managers with their stupid ideas, causing riots?
 
Is it true that all the updates get installed in the flash memory instead of the onto the hdd?

I remember reading something about the PS3 having 'a large amount of flash memory.'
