OK .. Motorstorm needs to come out NOW. CRAZIEST racer I've ever played. I've never ever ever played a racing game that's this insane. The amount ot things going on onscreen at such blistering speeds (especially in 1st person view) blows my mind. This cell processor is really something else.

Yeah that shit is crazy. Can't wait to play this game online.

Graphics are not all that important to me, so I didn't look closely. I just wasn't as blown away.
There's been 3-4 trailers of Motorstorm so far, and I definitely think the game lives up to all the latest trailers I've seen, and obviously doesn't quite live up to the first, prerendered trailer :\ Living up to anything or not, I really think it's one of the best looking games that you can play now.

Interesting. They say tracks are made up of 20K polys and vehicles are 25-30k. The tracks do look somewhat low poly, but less than a single vehicle?

I noticed that also. That has to be an error. :)

Check this: My TV supports PIP over HDMI. So I have 360 and PS3 running right next to each other :lol

Maybe it's 20k for frame.
So we have 20k*30 frames= 300.000 polygons rendered every second for the track plus the vehicles whose number depends on on the particular frame.
A single full track should be made of a few million polygons but of course it's not rendered all at once.

That would not be that surprising. In the environments they can get away with relatively fewer larger polygons, and they're using mapping techniques for detail. The vehicles, conversely, are very dense with detail with lots of individual modelling of components.

edit - or maybe it's just a mistake :lol

I bought my ps3 with the intention of just playing ridge racer 7. Well, ridge racer 7 just wasnt doing it for me. I love the series in spite of its lack of innovation it does one thing well, provide an arcade racing experience. Yet, for some time now, Namco has gone from leading the industry in pushing systems graphically to well, fighting to remain mediocre.

So, I went and bought Resistance, even though i am not a HUGE FPS fan, I figured it will at least showcase the PS3's power...People...ok, I admit the frame rate is smooth, very smooth...the amount of polygons being pushed around the screen is impressive. Yes, there is a lot to write home about. But, guys, walk up to any object, the textures are low res and no bump mapping, its atrocious. How is this exciting? I love sony, i want them to do well. I personally dont care if they sell more systems than MS, but give me a break. They have had a year to at least match what MS did at their launch. What am I greeted with? Low res, non-bump mapped graphics that I saw on the PC over 2 generations ago...

Gosh, I hope Fight Night 3 lives up to the screen shots floating around...

Um... why don't you actually try playing the game rather than playing the textures? This game isn't about standing 2 inches facing a wall and examining the textures.

Hmmm....it seems like you are totally unsatisfied. Put everything back in the box and send it my way :D

Really though, launch titles are hardly the be all, end all( I think thats the saying) of a systems prowess.

My complaint was not aimed at the gameplay, and I never said the game was bad because of its graphics. What I did say is that the graphics are unimpressive, and they are.

Questions...

Maybe these have already been asked, but I don't feel like looking trhough this massive thread.

#1). Can you use your own images as avatars?
#2). Can you hook up an external HDD via USB?
#3). Can you stream data from your PC to the PS3 and vide versa (videos, music, etc)
#4). What's your favorite feature about the PS3, besides the games?
#5). Will any old USB camera work, or do you need the eyetoy?
#5). What is the best game in your eyes so far?
#6). Does anyone else think the SIXAXIS control in motorstorm is ridiculously hard to get the hang of?

That is all for now...

Only in Linux.

I'm sure we'll see solutions crop up using the xmb web browser too, similar to some of the browser-based stuff you can get on PSP for accessing media on your PC.

Does anyone have any information on the HDMI to DVI-HDCP without optical audio situation? I asked this about 20 pages ago but the only reply I got was "use optical". If you have a TV with a DVI-HDCP socket, can you use the stereo audio from the AV-Out with it? If so, how do you set it up?

Download the Motorstorm demo.

Also, the Motorstorm demo that's on the Playstation Store is different from the one available on retail kiosks. The retail demo has 15 vehicles on screen with a lot of framerate issues and the PNP version has 12 vehicles with no slowdown at all. So, which one is the more recent build, the Playstation store demo or the retail one?

I can't imagine Evo Studios would add a mere 3 cars if it meant sacrficing the framerate.

Number of cars in Motorstorm depend on the event, and I'm pretty sure at least one of the events in the Playstation Store has 15 cars at the same time. PS demo is clearly of a more recent build.

Number of vehicles depends on the event, and it seems the downloadble demo has both an event with 15 and one with 12 vehicles (as shown in the latest videos from the demo on IGN/Gamespot).You haven't noticed that?

Quick question for those JP PS3 users...

Does your PS Store look just like this?:
PSStore.jpg

Specifically, the L1/R2 shortcut buttons clearly mapped to the Prev/Next buttons on bottom?

That interface was also shown, in English, during the NY PS3 Media Event demo on stage.
I'm guessing that's a newer version that we do not currently have? But am wondering if the JP version actually has that functionality.

Cause those shortcut mappings would realy streamline browsing the store.

4. Favorite thing is BluRay. Checked out a little bit of Talledega Nights last night and it looked very, very impressive with my projector and 106" screen. My projector isn't even HD-native and it looks so much better than HDTV feeds or DVDs.

6. I only had issues using the Sixaxis with the motorcycle, using it for the buggy was actually pretty easy and I got the hang of it quickly.

Haven't had a chance to watch this yet myself.

Some of the concept art shown there is quite..interesting. The Houdini stuff particularly.

edit - and the footage just looks incredible. Seems we're gonna get a lot of microtransacting with this after launch, which I'll be so weak for..

Are Evolution potentially doing a non racing game? Interesting. I know that they are now solidly with Sony so now they perhaps see the opportunity to branch out and try something new.

Eh, looks like its pretty much a raincheck.

"Attention: We are currently out of stock. Allocations of the PS3 have been very limited but we are working with Sony to secure future allocations. We will send email notifications and provide updates on the product detail page as well as in the customer discussions on the this page when we have availability."

In the Eurogamer interview it sounded like they were interested in doing something other than racing games. I was hoping they'd make WaveStorm next. :P

I've skimmed around the threads and on the playstation.com site but i haven't quite yet found the answer to my question.

Can I transfer and/or what is the transfer process for a network id from one console to another?

Resistance looks great at 720p.

Crysis isn't infested with bump mapping nor is Quake Wars.

I didn't notice that. I gues I'm dumb. Sorry :(

Anyway, I'm playing some God of War on the PS3 and it's playing flawlessly so far. This is cool as hell.

So ... I can't seem to convince myself that it's okay to get the 20gb PS3 lol. Anyone that cares or has a strong feeling on the difference? I might miss the wifi, i might miss the hdmi ....

... reason i ask is chicago has some cheaper systems than EBAY up on CL

There's HDMI on the PS3 20 since last TGS...

Yeah, I've successfully reserved a few IDs for friends that way.

When signing up for the PS Network, as a Master Account, you just choose "No, I will use an existing account", then put in the correct identifying info (email, ID, password), and it's transferred.

Thanks Jim. :)

can somone with a PS3 do me a favor please, is it possible to pair camrelphones to the PS3, and send the pictures to the PS3 so you could view the pictures on TV, through PS3 ofcourse?

and last, can you confirm that import PS1/2 games would not work on a U.S PS3? i hear no regional lock out only for PS3 games...true?

anyone?

thanks.

I find the PS2 memory card adaptor to be a bit of a letdown. You cannot copy saves back to a memory card; it copies an entire card to the PS3, and will not take all saves sometimes. This shouldn't have been a problem.

I have no idea what you mean, sorry.

Yes, it's true, as said 239485 times already. :) You cannot play import PS1 and PS2 games on PS3, only the games from your region. It's the PS3 games that are region-free.

Crysis does use bump mapping...

"Real time editing, bump mapping, static lights, network system, integrated physics system, shaders, shadows and a dynamic music system are just some of the state of-the-art features the CryENGINE™ 2 offers."

http://incrysis.com/crysis/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=166&Itemid=2

I dont really know much about Quake Wars, but it probably does too...

so my friend talked to some random dude in a Wii line, and he got freaked out because this dude listed tons of shit thats wrong with the PS3.

Heres what he told him
-1/4 PS3s don't work period and had to be returned
-1/4 BDs don't work and theres "not much difference" between those and DVDs (:lol )
-90% of PS1 and PS2 games don't work, and on BC games the button mapping is messed up, like what should be X is now O, etc.
-there are so many problems with it that there were 4 patches since yesterday to even get some to work.

this sounded like a pile of shit to me, but I just wanted it to run it by you guys so my friend can sleep at night.
