so my friend talked to some random dude in a Wii line, and he got freaked out because this dude listed tons of shit thats wrong with the PS3.

Heres what he told him
-1/4 PS3s don't work period and had to be returned
-1/4 BDs don't work and theres "not much difference" between those and DVDs (:lol )
-90% of PS1 and PS2 games don't work, and on BC games the button mapping is messed up, like what should be X is now O, etc.
-there are so many problems with it that there were 4 patches since yesterday to even get some to work.

this sounded like a pile of shit to me, but I just wanted it to run it by you guys so my friend can sleep at night.
If you friend believed that garbage  .

90% of PS1/PS2 games don't work... :lol :lol :lol

Has anyone tried Shadow of the Colossus on the PS3? Any report on slowdowns/framerate issues being better/worse?

yeah I just called my friend to tell him it was bullshit, and he said "yeah the guy said I should trust him because he used to work at EB games."

oh jesus, the hilarity!

Have my ps3 on an hdmi-> dvi converter and as a result, my image is a bit zoomed in (running in 720p)....anybody have any idea why its doing that? It's not a big deal, but it is a little annoying

This is a good question. SOTC would rock if the framerate was 30 fps locked now. I loved the game anyway on the PS2.

hey guys, since i might be a ps3 owner in 2 weeks i was wondering if it was possible to sign up and reserve a playstation network ID before i got the system? does sony have a similar website to xbox.com that allows you to register? this would be great since i don't want anyone to take the name i use on xbox live as well. let me know if anyone's got info. thanks :)

to the poster above who was hesitant about the 20gb version, three questions... are your consoles network enabled via wi-fi or hardwired? second, did you know that the hard drive can be upgraded manually? lastly, did you know you can hook up media devices via usb? the 20gb is a great deal if you don't care about the "extra" features.

HELP!

I took the PS3 over to a friends house who only has a SDTV... mine seems to be stuck in HDMI output.... how the hell do you switch it back???

Hold the power button when booting.

Hold down the power button for 5 seconds, wasn't it? I think that was it...

In other news, I guess one of the things that continues to impress me about the system is the controller. Sure, there are lots of arguments for switched configurations and whatnot, the whole rumble situation etc, but the thing I find really damned useful is how you get that sort of wavebird quality wireless without being weighed down by a controller that feels like a brick. I actually *like* the lightweight, especially compared to a 360 controller with the backpack.

Back to Ridge City...my name is pretty self explanatory for the friendlists...

anybody know how to get the right light in the controller to show? I thought it was only when charging, but even that doesnt make it glow. :O

Just tried it. I can't really remember back to the first boss and how much that slowed down on PS2, but I just got done killing the first boss on PS3 and the framerate didn't seem terrible. I don't have my PS2 hooked up to directly compare, but it seemed that it might have been improved.

Anyone know how to make the video thumbnails preview a bit of the video? All I get from the downloaded clips are the the static standard "video" image... Do I have to enable "preview" somewhere?

I find the PS2 memory card adaptor to be a bit of a letdown. You cannot copy saves back to a memory card; it copies an entire card to the PS3, and will not take all saves sometimes. This shouldn't have been a problem.

So basically it's a one time use purchase at $20 and it won't even transfer all the saves?

The more i read, i'm beginning to think that you'd just be better off playing your PS2 games on your PS2. Especially given the random BC issues, the fact that you can't retransfer saves (if i'm reading Lyte correctly), and there's really no advantage (upscaling, etc.) to playing the games on the PS3.

rr7 is growing on me -- a couple of the new jungle tracks are spectacular, and a couple of the old tracks have had really thorough makeovers. crossbay tunnel was a bit of an eyesore in rr6, and now it's all shiny and lit up and sexy. and unless i'm mistaken, rr7 is distinctly faster than rr6, which was absurdly fast itself -- i'm only driving class 3 cars and they're already eating up huge stretches of track in the time it takes me to glance at the heads-up map.

I wouldnt be surprised if Sony just dropped the whole BC in future PS3 revisions off... I still cant believe they had to put a whole PS2 to do this and yet it's not perfect (but almost).

YEP! Press play on the video first. Then hit the triangle button. You will notice that one of the icons says something like, "Change icon".

Select that icon and the PS3 will take about 4 seconds to set up the 15 second clip.

If it says that's somewhere in the manual than I apologize.

Either way, thanks for letting me know!!!

By the way, my PSNname or whatever it's called is MikeP. Feel free to add me dudes.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but I would like to ask you how you're getting your audio, do you just use optical like everyone else on here seems to or is there a way to use regular stereo audio from the AV-out?

It kind of sucks that you can't copy saves back to your PS2 cards, but it's better than nothing I suppose. Since you have a PS2 memory card adapter, can you try plugging it in to a) your PC and b) your PS3 with Linux running (if you have Linux on it) and see what happens? If it shows up as a USB mass storage device that would be awesome.

Where were you able to find the memory card adapter if you don't mind my asking...

I have no idea what you mean, sorry.

you know cell phones with cameras, when you take a picture with the phone, can you send it to the PS3 by bluetooth? do you know what i mean?

Does anyone have any information on the HDMI to DVI-HDCP without optical audio situation? I asked this about 20 pages ago but the only reply I got was "use optical". If you have a TV with a DVI-HDCP socket, can you use the stereo audio from the AV-Out with it? If so, how do you set it up?

Of course you can use the stereo audio from the AV Multi port. And it's all in the manual:

This might be an odd request, but could you post a picture of Gears + Resistance together in harmony?

Let's see :lol

They look quite nice together. Sucks that the TV forces 4:3 with that style of PIP. :D

I really hate how loud my 360 is now. Even when it's charging...it's loud as hell.

out of interest, how much louder is the 360 than the ps2?

I have a PSTwo. The PS3 is about as loud as the PSTwo, which is silent. Really beautiful.

Than the original PS2...I'd say it's a little louder than the PS2 while not spinning disks and way louder while spinning disks. I am really not happy with the 360's loudness. I have to crank up my TV to drown it out, and when I play at night I just can't do that. So I need to get a really long pair of headphones or I just hear the sound of the 360 instead of the game.

I have a 360 as well, and mine isn't nearly that loud. Not so loud that it drowns out the TV. While spinning the disk it certainly makes noise, but not something that is bothersome or even something I think about at all.

I'm in a little dorm room, so there's no such thing as not overly loud to me. I can hear my Tivo fan going. Since I basically live right on top of my PS3 and 360 (and the furthest I can ever get away from them is a few feet, more like three or four when I am gaming), the silence of the PS3 is much appreciated. Now the size... ;)

Nah, I just had to pack up all my school books to make a game shelf :lol

Motorstorm...

*jaw drop*

I've finally gotten a race in under 5:00 but still haven't completed one without taking more than a few dives off the cliffs.

...completely awesome game.

...seriously.

I have reading many ps3 threads lately but I havent read anything regarding divx/xvid playback capabilties of the ps3. Hope someone could fill me in on this.
