hm...after level 2, genji seems to be moving into "flawed but enjoyable" territory -- though i'm sending it back down to "excrementally awful" territory if i see any more "puzzles" like the ones in the first level. it's nicely varied, it's well-presented, and the battles get quite intense at times. the vaunted realtime character change (only possible with the power of playstation 3) would be cool if two of the characters weren't really unpleasant to play. and yoshitsune's animations are just gorgeous -- i spent a good five minutes slashing the air and flipping around just now.

I'm kind of curious, should I pick it up now that I've finished Resistance on SP on medium? ~_~

I wonder when DeanoC or Nao will tell us that they're going to have a Heavenly Sword demo available at the Playstation Store... because they need to have one at the Playstation Store.

man i think if it doesnt work, you will close your playstation site :lol

After the great job you did with Xboxyde, you would think that Sony would have hooked you up already like MS has. Crying shame that you have to spend so much of your own money. good luck with this one!

I was able to play through to the netherworld on a rental (level 3-ish?). The differences in combat styles between the 4 player characters is definitely jarring if you're hoping to be able to pound on the gamepad in the same way as you can for Yoshitsune. It's interesting because, on the surface, it almost feels like the game was designed around making any average gamer feel like a godlike warrior with little effort...as long as you play as Yoshitsune. But as soon as you try (or are forced to try) one of the other characters, you have to completely rethink the controls and your approach to combat. I haven't played the first Genji, so if this is familiar territory to anyone who has, go easy on me. Anyway, it's hard to deny the convenience of a essentially one massive life bar extended across four characters, so I managed to get the rhythm of each of the combat styles by the time I had to return the game and I was certainly finding each of them useful in a fair number of situations.

On the clearly negative side, I could really do without the faint vaseline filter on the visuals that seems to be in perpetual effect, the stilted cinemas and the unhelpful camera that had me fighting that Giant Enemy Crab as a mysterious offscreen foe 85% of the battle.

have we created a wishlist for firmware update yet? they really need auto play on bluray titles to make this a more family friendly player

Agreed. Otherwise you have to teach non-gamers how to find the movie under video and start it. :\

Is there some trick to creating a Japanese account? It's not accepting my username... I've tried multiple... then again I can't read Japanese...

nevermind..got it...heh

Username is e-mail address IIRC. Someone did a step by step guide waaaay back in the thread. Try to find it.

Blockbuster and Rogers, both dont carry Blu-ray titles. My only option right now is zip.ca and it'll take a week just to signup. :(

Blockbuster does have Blu-ray titles.

congrats. I made a JPN ID on my NA ps3 to download JPN stuff from the playstation store that is not available in NA. I notice some ps1 games are available. I wonder when we will get them here. :)

How did you understand the Japanese? Did you use a Japanese email address?

Would you happen to know where that thread is Bebpo?

I guessed at the boxes to fill in based on memory from the english version, I used a gmail email account and made up a fake address and stuff.

OMG and Wii thread still stickied??!!1 Moneyhat tyme!
Actually, they both got unstickied together ...then I remembered the Wii launches in Japan here in a few days, so back up it went. Meanwhile, the PS3's doesn't launch again until what, March?

So ... my PS3 is now refusing to let me shut it off by touching the power button on the console. It seems the only way I can do it now is if I shut it off with the controller. Is there something I'm missing here, guys?

if any of you are interested... ritzcamera.com is offering $20 off a $50 purchase using google checkout AND they stock PS3 games. i was able to score resistance for $40.50 w/ shipping. i heard you can also do more than one transaction and get the deal multiple times. i'm gonna put in a second order for rr7 tomorrow. only drawback is that the cheap shipping is 7-10 day delivery. if you're patient enough, it may be worth it.

So I just got through Hell in Genji II and the location sure lived up to it's name!

Let's see:

-Absolutely horrible platforming that was even worse than the battles and level design! No camera control + iffy judging distances + not being able to grab onto moving platforms + if you fall you do it ALL AGAIN = WOOHOO! HELL!

-Hours of boring repetitive halls that all look the same and don't have any NEXT-GEN WOOHOO graphics! At least when you're going through cool looking areas you can put up with the shit awful game, but no...this is hell

-Stuck with Benkei and Shizuka! Ah, the two terrible characters who can't combo much at all and are awful to play as...yet you must use them and even fight a boss! I think I used more items in that boss fight than any other in the game so far.

-LONG.

-Areas from Genji 1 and bosses from Genji 1 that somehow LOOKED and PLAYED BETTER IN GENJI 1. And JEEZ DID THESE BOSSES SHOW HOW NO CAMERA + BOSS FIGHT = ****ING STUPID DESIGN. When bosses are off-screen doing crazy full screen attacks you have to see coming and dodge...it's sorta ****ED UP.

-Uhh, and lots of battles...that of course all sucked.

I really hope the game is almost over. I tend to torture myself and force myself to finish games that have anything going for them (in this case, graphics in some situations), but man I can't take much more of this. Also because of murphy's law, everytime you get a shitty game it has to be HARD where you fall off platforms and redo whole sections or die in boss battles/long battles and redo whole sections multiple times. Why can't these terrible games ever be easy so you can at least just mindlessly blow through them in a hurry? :(

Right now this is running behind Gundam as the 2nd worst game I've played all year.

uh...i've actually started to like genji 2 after playing that same level. :lol all those repeated corridors are super boring, but the larger structure of the level is pretty cool, and i've started to enjoy the fighting. i've always liked yoshitsune and shizuka, and i'm starting to like buson -- the trick with him is to attack out of a dash, which produces normal swings rather than twirly baton crap, and generally opens up combo possibilities. benkei still sucks, but i haven't had to use him much.

it's clearly not as good as the first game, and i still miss the old kamui system, but i don't think it's that bad in its own right.

I just got prompted for a system update, but I didn't have time to do it before I had to leave for work. 1.11.

There's a thread on the Update floating around the Forum somewhere...

I'd provide a link but I can't copy/paste from my PS3 Browser...

Yet...

Please help me guys! :(

American PS3, imported to Europe. Running fine, updated firmware, fiddled with the settings for a while, signed up to PS Network, etc. All is well.

Then I put a game in...uh oh...disc wouldn't go in properly, drive made a grinding noise, now it won't accept any discs.

Anyone else had this? :(

I guess I should mention this since I've used it more than any other feature of the PS3 so far...

Reading GAF from my living room couch while listening to Gaming Podcasts over my Home Stereo is tits...

Complete and absolute tits..

I've asked this before but either 98% of GAF has me on ignore or it was just deamed a "question not worth answering"... :D

Has Sony said how often they plan to update the PS Store? It's been almost a week and a half since launch and nothing new has popped up.
I expected to see fl0w and Lemmings 2 available at launch, but then I read somewhere that they've been delayed until sometime in December?

I wish there was some kind of log-in pop-up that said "PS Store has Updated!"

Finally beat Genji... was longer than I expected and sometimes tedious (1st battlefield segment for example). Some REALLY nice looking backgrounds, and then some very boring ones. A lot of nice interactivity with objects though, thanks to Havok. Speaking of that, the game does a great job with handling enemy collision detection with attacked enemies flying back and knocking others over.

I hardly ever used Buson and Shizuka, but found Benkei really useful in areas where the enemies like to surround you, and those giant crabs, of course.

New OS version 1.11 Fixes

1) Improvement at management of accounts.

2) Some minor fix of audio issue. For example, if you using optical audio out on 1.10 firmware, after watching DVD or BR, audio out sometimes disabled. This problem was fixed.

3)Possibly, unknown stability improvement.
