No , holding down PS will make me choose between turning the controller (here the remote) or the system off

Uhh.. the remote is just a remote... it's always in "standby", and does stuff when you press buttons. You don't actually turn it on or off (even though there is an option when pressing the PS button)

hum ok.
Anyway , this remote is cool , good looking.

It takes the #7 game port (3+4) as a controller

Even though I'm watching a lot of Blu-ray movies, I don't see myself ever getting the remote. Not because of the price or anything ($25 is reasonable), but because for me the Sixaxis is one of the best remotes I've used surprisingly. It just feels comfortable skipping chapters with L1/R1 and doing FF/RW with L2/R2. Also select for movie info and start for pause feels so natural coming from games. Same with using square for the pop-up menus. The one and only downpoint of the Sixaxis movie controller is that to do a hard jump to the root menu you have to hit triangle, move to the icon, hit circle instead of just pressing one button.

I actually picked up the remote last night along with Rambo and Open Season but I really don't think it is needed I just wanted it for the convenience but I find that the controller works prefectly fine.

same , the 6a6 is fine , it just...for the fact / controlling movie with a remote /

Its not like i have tons of BR ...i like having it :o like i have the 360 remote pr ps2 remote :o

I think you're confusing me for someone else, unless you're talking to someone else. Never played RR6, but I may pick up RR7.

Anyway, of course, my friend's list is lonely so... come on guys hook me up.

:lol sorry, there was another brandon on gaf that played rr6.

Ok f**k that i tried 10 times and im sure now

The remote is f$cking up Soul calibur 3 on BC lol

All the others games are fine but for SC 3 , it takes without any way to change it , the remote as the 1st controller....i have to take the remote , to push "PS" and to turn it off manually.

:(

I gotta say, Blu-Ray is pretty much the only reason I'm not selling my PS3. The quality is just amazing. Even the Fifth Element impressed me, although I had that movie on VHS before, so that's probably why.

jjasper said:
Hell it is the reason I have a ps3. I have like 7 Blu ray movies and 1 game.
it's the reason i'm buying one this week while EB's offer is still on.

i'm getting a few films but i'm not getting any games (i'll get resistance when i'm not in the middle of a couple of other shooters and i'll get motorstorm next month).

For my PS3 remote & SC 3 BC issue i think its because when a ps2 game loads, it disconnect any controller , so the remote must connect itself to the ps3 before my real controller :(

Just get the remote Bebop, it's really suprising how much easier it is then having to access the menu every time, and ****ing up by pressing the wrong buttons on the controller.

A few new items up in the Playstation Store - downloading the Flow "TRAILER" right now - HD and SD available. I think the other few things were movie trailers - I'm halfway done downloading if someone else wants to confirm.

US Store?

What else is up?

US Store

Flow Trailer (No Demo or game yet)
Lucky For You trailer
2Xtreme for PSP

I was just about to post this.:)

I logged into the PS store and saw FLOW first thing. Stupidly I thought, "Wow, maybe it came early," and clicked on just to see it was a trailer. If I had been able to think for just another second before I clicked I would have remembered that things were organized into folders, but I was just so excited. Anyways, two weeks from today!!!

Can someone please explain to me why my wireless download speeds are 1/20th the DL speeds of wired and yet I have zero problems playing Resistance online via wireless?

I have the exact same problem. Please help.

I have the same problem, no idea why but I deal with it since I really don't have a choice.

Evidently, the 1.5 update has made this problem worse or created it. When I bought my PS3 almost two weeks ago, I could not patch Resistance via wireless. But as soon as I wired up my ethernet cable, it worked. The only problem is, as I stated last night is that my wife will beat me with my PS3 if she sees this ugly, gray ethernet cable running down the middle of the living room.

All relationships need a little something, some spark once in a while.

At least you'll be getting next gen sparks.

Ok, I'm probably going to be the first guy, but I've ****ed up trying to replace the hard drive.

The problem is that when trying to get the 4 main screws out that hold the drive to the metal case, I could only get one out and totally stripped 2 of the remaining 3 to the point where no screwdriver will ever get them out. There were in ungodly tight and I couldn't twist them out.

So what do I do now?

Is it possible to buy a 2.5" metal case thing that's identical to the one the PS3 uses and just screw in my new drive and pop it back in?

Or do I need to find some sort of handyman (who would I take this to) who can get these stripped screws out?

Not very happy atm >_<

Yeah I would have to wire it all the way across the house, and I don't have a wire that long and don't plan on buying one. I wonder if it does have something to do with the 1.5 update cause I didn't have any problems with the Resistance patch via wireless and didn't really notice how slow PSN downloads till it took me 5 hours to download Tekken and that was after the 1.5 update.

Ouch.

Yeah dude, I would maybe do the handyman thing. to get those screws out.

Have a look at this thread :

That friggen sucks...

I'd look into getting one of these: http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?pid=00952154000 You'll need an electric/power drill though.

This is bullshit. I just went out and spent $30 getting every size screwdriver there is on the planet and even on the one that's still in there and not stripped NONE OF THEM ARE WORKING. I can't get any of these screws out at all.

I think I'm going to take this to a computer store and see if they can get the screws out. Otherwise I'm ****ed and there's no way to replace my hard drive so I'll just have to buy a ****ing 60gig PS3 and lose out on the $100 hard drive. :(

Funny PS3 isnt even out in Europe, yet I own Resistance and I have MotorStorm pre-ordered. Also I got a Sixaxis, Logitech keyboard and two BD movies incoming, Kingdom of Heaven DC and Casino Royale.

I have never been so prepared for a system launch. :lol :D

Yeah, what in the hell is that all about?! I've been wondering the same damn thing.

However, here's something interesting: I had my laptop downstairs one day trying to figure out why the PS3's wifi connection kept dropping since my laptop stayed connected all the time, and I could download at top speed.

While doing this test, I was downloading a trailer on the PS3. It had been crawling when I firt got down there with the my laptop. But, a few minutes later the PS3 started flying. The whole time I had my laptop in the basement and also connected over wifi, the PS3 was able to download (from the Internet) just as fast as I would be able to over a wired connection.

When I took the laptop upstairs and repeated the same download on the PS3, it slowed down again. Hmmm...

I have a D-Link WBR-2310 Rangebooster G router. I only use it for wifi (have a different firewall/router for the net). It varies it's speed depending on what's connected, etc. It seems to me the PS3 is really sensitive to slight changes on the wifi router, whereas the PCMCIA card I use in my laptop is much better able to handle this. The PS3's wifi is spastic - speeds can vary greatly and drop outs happen frequently.

Another thing: recently speeds have improved a bit. That is, downloads are a little faster and more reliable. I don't know why that is except that maybe the recent firmware upgrades have started to address the wifi problems. Or, it could be because I forwarded the necessary PSN ports on the firewall to the PS3 (check the online PS3 docs). I don't know.

Hopefully the launch PS3s don't have flawed wifi cards/chipsets. That would be extremely unfortunate. I can't help feeling that the card may just be underpowered.

Is there a way I could skip the PS3 mounting and just pop the hard drive in there and put a sheet of metal or something to keep it elevated?

Or maybe get some sort of extension cable and just keep the hard drive external?

I talked to some computer stores and they told me I was ****ed and they couldn't get the screws out. They said to just buy a new enclosure instead. But I don't think I can get one that's just like the PS3 one with a latch to get it in and out or even get it to be the right size >_<

Haha... I'm going to order a game or two when I get my salary in two weeks. Probably Motor storm and Virtua Fighter 3. I need to play Resistance before buying it. When I buy a FPS for a console, I almost always end up not liking it. Is Casino Royale out for our nice European region already?

The GAF hype convinced me to buy Resistance. Its a Insomniac game, win-win situation basically. ;)

MS and VF5 are good choices IMO. I'll get VF5 next, and the F1 game probably (enjoyed the PS2 F1 game in online play).

No Casino isn’t out yet, it will be released 5 days after the EU PS3 release.

I missed that little word "incoming". It looks like I'm getting my PS3 from Webhallen. Might have the best price in Sweden (6199 SEK) and you get Resident Evil: Apocalypse on Blu-ray for free. YAY!!!

But I'll get Casino Royale... And I'll probably fall into the Resistance hype sooner or later too.

No way. I am sure you can get them out. You would have to be very careful, but you could do it.

What about using a metal bit to bore out the head? That might be enough to weaken it, allowing you to snap the head off. I know people do this type of thing when a screw head gets stripped. Search the net...the solution is out there.

I'd say that if this does work, the only problem remaining is that the screws themselves will be stuck in the HD. Not sure how you would mount it in anything at that point.

EDIT: Here's a link to a page describing how to remove a screw with a stripped head (first hit on google - lots more):

http://www.naturalhandyman.com/qa/qastrippedscrew.shtm

I got the screws out! Using the long side of long nose pliers and doing small turns until it broke loose! WOOHOO! I AM SO HAPPY! YAY!!

But OTOH, I think this was somewhat for naught, because even though I was excited to be upgrading from a 2mb cache to a 16mb cache that would give me even faster load times than the 60gig 8mb cache...uhh on the actual hard drive I bought from that ewiz sight there's a bunch of numbers on the sticker like all hard drives right, says 100gigs ok, but then there's a 8455MB number as well. Now I dunno about you but I don't know what else could be ~8MB than the cache.

So I think in reality 16mb cache on 2.5" doesn't exist and the one at ewiz and other retailers on this toshiba model is probably a misprint. :\

Still, at least going from 2mb -> 8mb I'll get load times cut in 1/2 or less, plus now I have 100gig instead of 20gig, so it's still an improvement.

Moving over PS1/PS2 saves is RETARDED with the PS3 though. You can't just copy the entire memory card to an external source. I had copied 3 PS2 cards and 2 PS1 cards with like 30-50 saves per card on my old hard drive so I had to copy them one at a time and now I have to copy them BACK one at a time @_@

got mine today as planned. picked it up with saw 3 and the terminator. downloading gran turismo hd right now.

ended up getting the 60 gig one due to availabilty.

there's a lot about the menus and store that wind me up and that i hope they fix soon (like like me use the d-pad to skip past scrollable text without scrolling through it...) but it feels good to be totally covered multiplatform wise.

the motorstorm and resistance demos are both great, and i will own both at some point.

the gamertag (or whatever they call it) is plagiarize. having a hard to spell word as your alias is great :)

3 console future for the win.

only thing i'm waiting on is my hdmi cable in the post. i have a component cable from my ps2, but 720p and 1080i are showing up how crap it is (not 1st party). i'm not going to make any IQ comments until i get that, and can put the ps3 on it's own input and adjust all the display settings on my tv to the right place. i'm not concerned about it though.

i find it pretty crazy that they give you an ethernet cable but couldn't put component outputs on the standard av cable, but whatever... i'll be running hdmi soon.

and, i know that Nintendo and Microsoft have said crazy hyperbolic things about their systems, but i had a good chuckle reading the leaflet that comes bundled inside the ps3 box.

i already bought your system guys, you can cut the 'only next gen system designed to be backwards compatible' and 'beyond evolution' nonsense now that i'm an owner.

A Naval buddy took me to a Japanese shop downtown from my base. I picked up VF 5, the memory card adaptor and the Blu-Ray Bluetooth remote.

I spied Sonic, Formula 1 and Motorstorm, three titles that have yet to come to the States...(I'd only consider Motorstorm though).

I was wondering has anyone purchased the Ghost in Shell Innocence Blu-Ray? I asked the Japanese clerk if the film had the English track or subtitles and she could not confirm. The movie cost 8000 Yen though...

did they enhance the visual display for when you play .MP3s in a recent update and I missed the news?

My music visualization is doing a bunch of really cool things that it never did before, like neat water droplets that slowly change colors, then turn into confetti-esque squares floating around, melting back into water drops, etc?

It use to just be that (what I like to call) 'cascading canyon', but it appears to do a lot of new stuff now (now it looks like the sun, pulsing with reds/yellows/oranges/purples, giving off light in space with little sunbursts.) @_@

Cool. I wonder what new ones they're gonna have for the March update, since new audio visualizations have been mentioned dozens of times for that update...?

j/k :P I havent looked at the music playback since I updated, I'll have to check it out to see what you're talking about.

there just seem to be a lot more colors and more varied effects.

It's bringing back some old acid flashbacks man... :D

I remember the 3D0 actually had an awesome audio visualization program. One of the best I've ever seen for a console. You could really mess around with the visualizations with the controller- much more so than the PS3.

It was probably the best thing about the 3D0, sadly. :(

heh, I never had a 3DO so I'm not sure, but I think you might be right about more stuff going on in the effects, then again I havent looked at it in a while so It could just be me
and your acid trips. ;)
