Well... I LOVE THIS SHIT. I think we could use this thread. James Vogul won the first thing tonight... nice for a newcomer

I loved the show last year. Damn Sporting News told it's readers who won this year and didn't spoil text in the least. Sucks.

I kinda spoiled it myself by heading over to the Harrah's page in early June... but I still find watching to be quite interesting. The psychology of the game is great. I definitely favor the Texas Hold Em games over 7 card stud though... 7 card has too much for me to keep track of.

I've become addicted to televised Poker thanks to ESPN, Fox Sports, and the Travel channel... it's always on someplace... don't like Bravo's celeb games, but otherwise it's all good. Sam Farha is the mack daddy.

What was that first tournament? I couldn't figure it out, I tuned in late. Was it a play-in table for the big tournament?

Didn't see the show, but Sportscenter had Kenny Mayne attend a tournament for people who couldn't pony up the 10 grand. The top eight finishers were granted seats in the real tourney.

yeah, the showing of the seven card stud game was horrible. that game is not any where as exciting to watch as Texas Hold'em. i couldnt figure out what they were playing for a while, it was retarded. More moneymaker!

I've seen the airings on ESPN of the old shows...its awesome. I fucking fell asleep tonight though and missed it.

Anyway, how many shows are they going to have? Are they already on the final table?

And how is Moneymaker doing? Last year he was lucky as hell on the flop...I figure he can't be that lucky this year to make it too far.

I don't like this format- I preferred last season's format better- where they had extensive coverage of the entirety of one tournament.

I'll give them props for airing the stud tourney though.

I like the Bravo games by the way. The table talk in them is incredibly entertaining (and Dave Foley is god).

GA should have its own poker tournament. Everyone download the poker game at partypoker.com

22 hours of coverage according to SportsCenter.

22 hours of coverage repeated 62 times.

I enjoyed watching last year's the first time around, but after a month or so of repeats, I was begging to watch Stefano Pelinga do pool tricks.

What there showing over the next few weeks are mini-tournaments that are held before the main event. This is the first time they're showing them on TV. The main event will start airing sometime in August.

I think it would be cool to get a GA poker game going. I can't stand PartyPoker though. I've been at Full Tilt lately since a lot of famous players are on there pretty frequently.

Chris Moneymaker won that event

They phrased Moneymaker's 2004 status oddly. They said he wasn't playing. Which was correct, but it wasn't that he didn't show up, he wasn't playing because he busted out early in the tournament.

A bunch of the top guys last year didn't advance either.

PokerStars is free, and MoneyMaker's sponsoring company... Warcock and I used to play a lot

Apparently Moneymaker didn't play this year? It's on ESPN right now on the east coast.

That wasn't the main event. Moneymaker, however, played in the main event and busted out early. They'll probably show it later when they cover the main event.

I don't think Moneymaker's victory last year was all luck- they used their selective coverage of hands just to make it seem that way. I bet he's an incredibly good player.

I watched him on the World Poker Tour when he was on once. He's a pretty ballsy player, and he got pretty lucky, although he still lost. They also had a feature on him where a lot guys called him simply a lucky player. Obviously he's good, but from what I've seen, i don't think he deserves to be the new posterboy for poker.

PartyPoker is free too and is the most popular one out there. Although admidtedly not the best. Pokerroom has the nicest program but does'nt let you get into big fake money no limit games right off the bat like PartyPoker does.

Heh, if there is one thing I've seen, it is that the established veterans of poker will never give any credit to an "Internet" poker player. No doubt Moneymaker was lucky, but to win the WSOP takes a good bit of luck and skill. And then he followed it up with a final table at the world poker tour.

Anyone who cracks on Moneymaker is just hateful. He has the bracelet and the money, they don't, for the most part anyway...

Well, I don't care what system we go on, but we should all play...

moneymakers bluff on Farha at last years tournament was one of the best plays i've ever seen. Sure money makers lucky look at the hand he won over Phil Ivey to even survive, but who wins that much poker without a little luck?

This year was just insane though last years competition had like 839 people this year like 2k, the only known professional to even make the final table was Dan Harrington.

I'd love to play some online poker...it's just a matter of finding time for it.

Oh yeah, I can't let a poker thread go by without posting a pic of the lovely Shania Hiatt...

I don't get this...how many champions are there every year? I thought the only game they played last year for the WSOP was Texas Holdem. Now there are like 3 different games that I know of that have champions...and the earnings are only like $300K for the winner? Didn't Moneymaker win $2.5 million last year? I thought this years winner got $5 million?

The only thing I can think they are doing is taking the top 10 winners and making the final table to play Texas Holdem? They keep flashing this top ten list everyonce inawhile but I'm not sure what it is...

Can somebody explain wtf is going on here?

IIRC, they play like 4 different poker games, in an ongoing series of tournaments. The big one at the end is the one Moneymaker won (anyone know the deal with his name?). The top 10 list is because of some new bonus they give to the highest scoring player of the year.
