XBLA needs a real deep cart racer - it would be so sweet if that EGM rumor a few months ago about Rare making a cart racer (full game I think it was) was true...

I can see a Monopoly game being huge on XBLA as well, not to mention theY0d make a killing selling different themed boards and pieces like the real games out now...

And besides all of the suggestions made, I'd really, really love to have Turtles in Time SNES hit XBLA - damn I love that game AND its awesome soundtrack - on of my favourite SNES games of all time...

Summer better hurry up and come soon too, as I can't wait for SSF2THDR and Super Puzzle Fighter...

How so? Why can't it ever hit XBLA?

It is in the name, Xbox Live Arcade. Notice most of your classic games on the service are arcade ports including Double Dragon, Pac-Man, Contra and the first TMNT game. To wit, if Turtles in Time hits the XBLA it shall also be the arcade version. If one wants the SNES version I suggest keeping an eye on the Virtual Console.

Yes, Castlevania: SOTN was great in the arcades. Oh, wait, it wasn't.

Yes, generally it'll be the arcade ports, but in the end it all means very little and seems completely dependent on what the publisher wants to put out rather the fact XBLA has the word 'Arcade' in the title.

so was the first Sonic the Hedgehog ever released in the arcade? I thought it was only released on a console.

Not the same thing, Jetpac and Crystal Quest also have no arcade analogs as well as the upcoming Prince of Persia. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time does have an arcade counterpart and when this occurs the XBLA gets the arcade version not the console version.

Yeah it did come out in the arcade - they had one at the Laser Quest near us. I think it was essentially a coin-fuelled MegaDrive, though.

I think Sonic had a couple of obscure arcade games actually.

We got at least 2 to 3 hours before the announcement hit the internets.

Great man, its nice to have somebody who knows all the right places to check so I can just pop in here when it gets a 10-20 post boost and go "yay i wanted that" or "boo where is (game i wanted)"

You do a great service mate.

4 levels for Rush N' Attack? I thought there were more then that. Or perhaps it is different on the NES.
I recall 5 stages on the NES.

Well, maybe to Xevious (still a good game), but worst case is this means I save money for once and can work on other games. Can't complain about two releases...

or can I???

It beats Double Dragon week.

ok, so important point learned. if it's retro, let's just skip a week without a release... even if MS can release two titles in one week. check.

;)

I remember Rush ‘n Attack... I remember how the heli dropped them in at the start and the stupid mines I could never jump with the NES pad and the guys with the knives and the guys with the bazooka and how the music changed and a huge long line of baddies would come running in and how they leaped over the fence and the end :(

I think hearing about that game brings back more memories than Zelda, Mario, Sonic and the rest!

The game definitely had more than 4 levels though... I think each stage had a certain amount of levels...

I may get Rush N' Attack after trying the demo. If the enhanced graphics and achievements are worth the $5, I'll jump in. RnA was a favorite back in the day, but when I played it in a retro pack recently, it didn't age too gracefully.

It helps if you just ignore the anti-retro offense force.

retro is definitely better than nothing, but that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to bitch if they find the games boring. I remember the glory days when this thread was never anything BUT bitching!

Weren't there also sub-levels where you could go down certain ladders for another route or something? Game was awesome for the NES, one of my faves.

Ah cool - R&A is 2 player co-op online. I'll probably pick that up for $5, especially after a night of drinking.

thanks shards,

These haven't been on my radar at all, guess I'll check out the demos as I'm not familer with the games.

I think ill hold fire and check the demos, wish it was mad tracks but ohhh well.

Give me some PC retro, please (and, yes, I am looking forward to PoP, but a man can dream about XBLA versions of Wasteland, Ultima VII, Day of the Tentacle, etc., can't he!?).

Mad Tracks, while not out this week does remain a high contender for release in the next few weeks since it has passed cert and so far the latest list is two for two (Soltrio Solitaire and Rush N' Attack) and Mad Tracks was on that list.

Anyone know whatever happened to Track N Field?

I remember them talking about that at last E3...seems like such a long wait for a port of a pretty simple game.

Seeing Rush N Attack (Konami connection) brought this one back to mind.....

It would be fantastic if the delay is due to implementing a larger multiplayer mode for the online portion. I know the original releases were all two player only. 4 player+ TnF would just be a dream come true.

It is coming, it was in the montage of upcoming games that was found recently, it just fell behind Rush N' Attack here and Yi Air Kung Fu, maybe even Super Contra.

Again, most of us are not anti-retro. We're anti-these games. I'd LOVE to see some great beat'em'ups come to XBLA, Knights of the Round in particular instead of Rush'n'Attack.

Also, how many shmups are just sitting on Saturn or PS1 discs perfectly ready to be ported for 20 grand? But instead... Xevious. Sure, there are plenty of better shmups free on the net but it'd be nice to play the better ones that never came to the US.

I understand that to some degree its a matter of nostalgia but really, why ruin what you used to think about these games? When the simpsons arcade game comes out(as it will) people are going to be complaining that its not as good as they remembered. Thats because it just simply wasn't that good.

And really, its not like we were expecting Space Giraffe or Castle Crashers this week, with the beta. I guess this is MS just saying "Well, our alpha consumers are busy playing Halo, the people interested in these games are probably not". Fine with me.

Not my cup of tea, but good to see XBLA is holding up to the consistent releases.

I mean, 2 games in a week again.. It wasn't long ago when we would struggle to get anything at all.

I'm not playing the Halo beta nor do I have interest in it. I also have no interest in these games. Space Giraffe would have been nice though. Hell, Tron would have been nice.

I agree completely.

I didn't have any interest either but I just decided, I sorta have to, I did buy crackdown(for crackdown) might as well boot it up. I was pretty impressed.

I'm not looking forward to tron myself but Space Giraffe should be epic. WE ARE SORRY. YOU PRINCESS IS IN ANOTHER CASTLE.

Hard to call it "co-op" though. You take turns to play in RNA. Still do in the XBLA version.

Expect it soon(ish).

Actually, I believe the original T&F was 3 players.

But, yeah, it has been upped to four players on XBLA.

Well, I've found most of the "original" Xbox Live Arcade games boring. So, you know.

But, to be fair, somebody is always going to be disappointed with the game, no matter what. If Knights of the Round comes... and, I dunno, there are a ton of games of that genre that are better... somebody will be like "Knights of the Round? Pssh."

One of the best XBLA releases to this date for me was Galaga. Yet, a lot of people were like, "Man, Galaga sucks, it's so old and boring. And don't we already have it on a million other consoles?"

I'd use my health depleting special attack to kill them and then eat a watermelon and gain points that make me stronger in the same measure that chests of gold treasure do... :D

I don't get the people clamoring for Space Giraffe and also bitching about these old games at the same time. Space Giraffe is nothing more than Tempest over a Winamp plug-in so complaining about crap like Rush-N-Attack while waiting anxiously for a warmed over atari clone seems a little silly. Frankly, I'd rather not have either but at least they're pumping out two games a week now instead of the bullshit schedule they used to keep where we'd see something like Rally-X and then nothing for weeks.

I think the only classic arcade game out of the upcoming releases that I'd consider buying is Track-N-Field. For some reason I still have a soft spot for that one.
