Haven't played Exit, but I would HIGHLY recommend the Pinball!

Agreed. Exit didn't really do it for me, even though I wanted to like it. But I LOVE Pinball FX!

I'm also happy to have 5 boards available now, and I'm hoping they continue to release more. I'd like to end up with at least 10 or so.

There are supposed to be at least three more boards in the pipe. A few months ago, they announced: 1 free board (pirates) 1 pay board after that (haunted mansion) then a 3 pack of boards. No idea yet if the 3 pack idea has been broken up into individual sales or not, and also no announcement of what the theme for the three boards is AFAIK.

Sounds great, thanks for the info! I can be happy with 8 boards total, but I'll gladly buy any more boards they throw my way should they choose to make more.

I have 800 points and am trying to decide between Exit and Pinball FX. Any suggestions?
Errr... both are good (although you'll want to buy the new Pinball table which is another 200 points), but in very different ways. Exit has a ferocious amount of content but Pinball is more replayable, if that's your concern. If it has to be one of those two games, just play the demo for Exit and make your decision on whether or not you like Exit (there are some moderately frustrating design decisions).

Anyway, an outfit named Steel Penny games is apparently bringing a game called Bruiser & Scratch in Case of the Puzzling Paw to the XBLA.

http://www.xblarcade.com/node/1643

Ex-Naughty Dog Employees Working On Bruiser & Scratch

A few former employees of Naughty Dog (Crash Bandicoot, Jak, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune) have formed a new game studio called Steel Penny Games, who are currently working on a WiiWare and XBLA game entitled Bruiser & Scratch in Case of the Puzzling Paw. The game will be puzzle oriented and according to ******* will be similiar to the episodic title Sam & Max and current Wii gem Zack and Wiki. The game will feature two main characters Bruiser (a dog) and Scratch (a cat). You can read a bit more information can be seen at the official game site.

IGN XBOX 360 unveils a new regular ongoing Friday feature: The Arcade Challenge

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/847/847691p1.html

This week's challenge: Zuma Deluxe

Arcade Challenge: Zuma
Do you have what it takes to be one of IGN's elite?
by Hilary Goldstein

January 25, 2008 - Achievements have proven to be one of Xbox 360's greatest innovations. The best Achievements offer a challenge to gamers and keep you playing longer than you might have under other circumstances. Your pals at IGN Xbox 360 like the idea of this challenge so much, we figured it was time we put our readers to the test. And so we introduce a new weekly feature: Arcade Challenge.

Every Friday we'll select an XBLA game and devise a tough task for you to beat over the weekend. Those who succeed can email us proof. Those who beat the challenge will be mentioned on that week's Three Red Lights Podcast. Also, there will be punch and pie.

Arcade Challenge: Zuma Conqueror
The first challenge is in honor of IGN board poster Archie04, who first suggested this feature. Zuma has been available on XBLA for two years. Still, no one in the IGN offices has been able to beat all thirteen stages. Zuma is, quite honestly, one of the hardest games ever made. Your challenge is simple, but difficult: Beat Zuma.

To prove you've completed this challenge, send us a link to your gamer profile on Xbox.com. We'll check and see if you have the "Adventurer" Achievement unlocked.

Bonus Challenge: For extra kudos, give a go at the "Sharp Shooter" Achievement. All it requires is that you beat a level in five seconds. Piece of cake.

How about Switchball? that game is so great, damn you Rez, I was so going to buy this but I guess Rez is next...

Okay, developers for XBLA should REALLY learn how to implement netcode. I convinced a friend to buy Doom so we could play it online coop, and well, that was apparently a big mistake. The game has absolutely no clientside prediction, so every move the client makes has to go through the server before the client sees any reaction. This even applies to something as simple as rotating the camera. It makes it completely unplayable.

Unfortunately, a bunch of other games suffer from the exact same problem. Lumines Live was ported from the PSP and it seems like they didn't bother to change the netcode at all as it's unplayable with any ping over ~50 (and even with such a low latency the host will have a big advantage anyway).

Does anyone have good recommendations for XBLA games with online coop with actual good netcode? I don't wanna blindly buy games and hope they're playable.

I can mention those I've already played:
Aegis Wing (free and the netcode works well (the game seems to "cheat" a bit as it doesn't look to be in sync at all))
Switchball (good netcode and fun while it lasts (which is not very long unfortunately))
Undertow (good netcode)

I'm guessing ports and emulations are games which are least likely to have acceptable netcode. Does games like Contra or TMNT play well online?

I've heard Contra plays horribly online. Arkadian Warriors could have been better as well. Smash TV works but is also a bit flakey.

I bought Undertow weeks ago so i'm gonna ask them my 800 points back one of these days.
Oh, and i'm ready for Rez, can't wait.

...and when Castle Crashers comes out i wanna see all of Gaf on that fuckin' game. Looks awesome.

I bought both at the same time and so far I have spent a lot more time playing Pinball FX. I even paid 200 more points for the extra table. Exit is pretty good, but the controls can be a bit frustrating at times and the whole game is trial and error puzzle solving so it can be a bit too much when I just want to relax and unwind when I play.

reminds me of the next-gen version of one of those games you typed in on your trs-80/commodore computer from a 1986 computer magazine, in basic, saved to your cassette recorder. apon running it gives you a error code that you search the entire program... only to find the , should have been ; (I really hope someone gets it, because that is exactly what it seems like to me)

RUMOR: Mr Pants is Back!

It's Mr Pants

Rare's #1 mascot is now rumored to be coming to XBLA. No, not Banjo. Not Conker. Not Joanna Dark (at least in this post). It's Mr Pants!!! Surfer Girl has revealed that one of the Rare XBLA games that is coming will feature Mr Pants. That's all we know for now. Given the fact that Mr Pants has only starred in one game 2005's It's Mr Pants (GBA, 76%), it may be a safe bet to think that that may be the game. It's Mr Pants was a puzzle game which forced you to create large groups of blocks of the same color (check out this YouTube video for more information).

What do you think? Will be seeing Mr Pants in his "classic" puzzle game, in something new, or will this stay just a rumor?

Interesting preview of some 2008 XBLA games:

I'm pretty excited about Schizoid...

Lovely lovely.

NOW WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY MEGA MAN GAMES, CAPCOM?

Seriously Capcom, do you realize if you put Powered Up on XBLA, it would sell? You could easily finish the series like that as was originally planned.

Hell, I'd be okay with straight ports with achievements. :[

AlphaTwo00 said:
My problem with Schizoid is that everytime I read about it, it just comes off as a poor man's ripoff of Ikaruga.

Switching colours to hit the other polarity, etc. Oh. And their description is off. Controlling two ships, from earlier previews, is a separate mode.
I thought that the cpu would control the other ship for single player. You destroy ships by touching them, not shooting them. The game sounds pretty unique to me.

I got Bomberman Live.

Just might be the best multiplayer XBLA game hands down.

Yeah, it's great for when people drop around - everyone loves it and it's easy to get into. Plus everyone loves dressing up their character.

I want Bionic Commando, Chessmaster, Commando 3, Ikaruga, Lode Runner, N+, Peggle, Poker Smash, Rez HD, SSF2HDR, Talisman, and The Incredible Machine. XBLA is amazing. Does anyone wanna hook me up with some MS points? :P

That's too much awesome. I want N+ the most, I don't like playing games on my PC but I remember forcing myself to play it with the keyboard cause it was just that good. Fuck I can't wait for that to hit XBLA.

Just chiming in to say I enjoyed the demos for Mad Tracks and Pinball.

In my limited time with Undertow it seems like i could either grow to like it.

I have 10 of the 12 achievements on that game. Yeah, I'm a shameless gamerscore whore. I plan on buying Avatar one of these days and returning it the day after I bought it, 1000 points richer. :lol

double ouch :lol This I don't get. Why can't you be just an achievement whore and complete you know, games that are worth it? I love achievements too, but I only get them for games I like. The score's just a random number. People will only roll their eyes when they see Avatar and other shovelware stuff on your playlist :p. MS has got a hold on you, break the shackles

Oh, I've been completing games that are worth my time, too. I just look at my e-sausage and feel dissapointed, ya know. :D

Do we know if SEGA have any more games coming out for XBLA?

They had a splurge last year with Sonic/Sonic2/SoR2/Ecco, and then nothing since.
