How many have you gotten so far?

All of them but the 3 card games... so that's 13 including Hexic. (317 MB between all 13)

I'm going to buy $75 worth of points a month starting next month so I'm planning on buying almost every game possible

Zuma is all you need. I finally got the Son of Son achievement tonight, and for anyone who was wondering, all you need to do is get at least to SoS1 on every gauntlet level.

I know, it's just ridiculous, especially since I didn't really enjoy it on the PC. I'm well on my way to getting the 24 hour achievement, while I have at least 4 "real" games I haven't played nearly that much. I'm glad there's something on XBLA that I'm good at, because I totally suck at Geo Wars.

And the frog has a new hat!

Yes he does! Made it all worthwhile. ;)

I can't believe you beat level 9. I still can't do it. The lofty $40 price of 360 wireless controllers is the only thing that's kept me from flinging it at the wall many, many times.

Zuma rules. Just talking about it makes me want to go play it.

I'm the complete opposite.
I'm pretty damn good at Geo Wars, but suck at Zuma :\ I love both the games, but I find it strange that I'm better at what many consider the harder game to play.

here are some tips i have observed while playing... many are obvious and probably already known so this is a quick newbie heads up

oatmeal's Zuma tips:

-goal is to get points and fill up the Zuma bar at top right, when that fills it will yell Zuma and will stop sending new balls, just the on screen

-that above is one of the keys to the game so what are the best ways to get points and fill up the bar? Combos of course. Gap combos (not easy, a risk sort of), Coins, the combos with special balls.

-important thing when making combos is to take quick glances at the balls to the left and right so you can make double and triple combos...if they're the same color. In the later stages, this is the only way to survive! You'll get owned with just regular 3 ball combos...

-i can't confirm this but i heard if you keep getting combos with each successive shot, you gain a Multiplier that will give points faster and fill the Zuma bar up quicker.

-what to do when there's no 2 of the same color in sight? pretty obvious but just fire to a single one of the same color

-accuracy ball always helps... especially for gap combos so you shoot it in there faster!

-always check your frog as he shows the next color of the ball. Press B to swap

there's really not that many tips to this game... it's so simple in that sense, partly what makes it so great! You will get better n better so don give up! If you haven't downloaded the demo yet, definitely get it and trust us it's worth the 800 points for full! Best Arcade game ever!

Has anyone got the Black Belt Grandmaster achievement in Mutant Storm yet?
I got my Black Belt last night, and this sounds pretty much impossible if you have to do it in one game... is that the case, or can you spread it across games?

-i can't confirm this but i heard if you keep getting combos with each successive shot, you gain a Multiplier that will give points faster and fill the Zuma bar up quicker.
I can, that multiplier just keeps going up and up. In Gauntlet mode, if you can keep a chain going to 30 or more, its literally shoot, shoot, ZUMA! shoot, shoot, ZUMA!!!

I seem to have a quirky problem with Zuma and my controller. Once in a while it only lets me move the frog in two directions. I have to pause then go back or sometimes I have to keep circling the analog stick to get it to work. Anyone else seen this?

Yeah, it happens when you nudge the right analog stick (I think). If you touch both at the same time, the centering mechanism goes all funky. Pause/unpause seems to be the only fix.

Seriously… Bejeweled 2 must have the most hardcore achievements of any game out there. You really need to work your ass off to get any of them.

Like doing 280 games in endless or 8 in action are really... ugh... :´(

It's the only game in which you can feel pride for taking any of the achievements.

Has anyone got the Black Belt Grandmaster achievement in Mutant Storm yet?

Yeah, a Japanese guy named NEO ATLAS was the first one.

Canadian Arcade fanatics, do you get charged tax for your points?

http://www.ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=83479

OUTRAGE!!!!!

For example...

"Uhm I was charged $6.25 for purchasing 500 points." Wario 64

$6.25 for US, $7.75 for Canadians...

Conversion
$7.75 Canadian -> $6.77 US dollars

Ripped off 52 cents per 500 points, PLUS we get charged tax!!!

DOUBLE EDIT TO CHANNEL MY RAGE

So you buy 2000 points.

US - $25

Ontario - $31 x 1.15 = $35.65 convert to US -> $31.15 US
Canadians pay $6.15 more US per 2000 points.

This means a 400 point game costs us $7.13 Canadian, and a 800 point game costs us $14.26. Nice M$.

What do you need to do to get it? I'm a good long way away from that - been working through Tally mode (just at simple levels to get the achievement) but I'm planning on building my belts up once my 360 has been repaired/replaced...

Ya, I was charged 8.91 for my marketplace points. That's double the tax eh? Looks like it'll be cheaper to buy point cards from the store.

At Futureshop, 1250 points are $20, or $23 after tax in Ontario. 1.840 cents per point.
Online, 1000 points are $17.83 after tax. 1.783 cents per point.

Its still cheaper to buy them online, unless you have a discount somewhere. My mom works at walmart, which is 10% off for me, but they don't have the points last time I checked. Oh well.

Apparently you need to do levels 1-89 in one game, starting on black belt. Black belt is shockingly hard though... once I got it, on level 20, I lost all my lives before I even got to level 29.

Talking with Modus last night, we both agreed that if Lumines came out today for XBLA, it would not be soon enough. It would become the top seller immediately. Someone make it happen, PLEASE!!

If Lumines comes out for 360, I assume it would be a full blown 360 game released in stores. I doubt they'd just release it through XBLA.

I hope we see the two other games supposed to be released by the end of the month released tonight! :p

Honestly, I'm not holding my breath, but it would be really cool if it happened.

They're all listed on xbox.com as February 2006, so I wouldn't expect them tonight.

I dunno... it could be 800 points and they'd make a hell of a markup on it. Also, with the immediate accessibility of XBLA, there'd be no manufacturing worries at all.

Why doesn't XBLA have Texas Hold'Em yet?

It's still in development, but the good news is that it'll be a completely free game. Not sure if that's common knowledge, the first I heard of it was on Major Nelson's podcast last week.

Who is modus?? .. Let´s Spam Q Entertainment that they make it happen...(lumines for Xbox) , and he´Every Extend Extra from Q is also a must have for 360..(arcade)

Hopefully, these rumors are true...

Gamers can expect to see the 360's Live options expand exponentially between now and E3, especially for Live Arcade. MS is in the process even now of expanding its Arcade Division to handle the MASSIVE influx of new submissions. Number aren't exact but my contact said that there's probably over 100 games in the pipeline for XBOX Live right now and many more are being submitted! Another whisper is that MS may soon lift the 50 MB limitation on Arcade game size. This would close the games off to being transferred on a memory card but would mean a massive expansion of potential content for the Live Arcade.

Ahh, too many games. Right now we're in a drought, but if we start getting a dozen games a month (or more), a lot of the small developers might get buried...again :S

I don't think so. The value of 'try before you buy' gives the underdogs a real opportunity to compete with the big guys. I certainly am just as interested of trying demos of unique new games than I am in automatically buying a bunch of big-publisher shovelware.

Well I hope you're right.

But the article makes me feel better because they say they're redesigning the XBLA section, and I say thank god. How do you know there's a new game unless you actually go into each category and check manually? What's the point of a "last game played" button if you have to wait for each game to be 'realized' or something, taking 10 seconds before you can select the last game you played? Really minor beefs but something that will get annoying when we have 20-30 games on our hard drives.

EDIT - and of course what Tabris mentions below.

Only thing I dislike about try before you guy is it lists the game in played games, thus you will always have it even if you don't buy it.

Sucks for achievement whores.

I actually like that it shows the demos that you've played. I've had a couple of conversations with people online about Arcade games starting off by seeing that they played the demo. A demo indicator would be a nice addition though.

Not sure if this has been posted but Jeff Tunnell from Garage Games started a new blog, and he has some interesting posts. Marble Blast Ultra looks like a HUGE success, it looks like it will easily surpass Geometry Wars despite costing twice as much.

The most important thing to note here is that GarageGames and several small indie game developers were give Alpha hardware and an equal shot at bringing games to market on next generation hardware at launch. Think about that for a second. Instead of giving Electronic Arts more of the scarce development kits, Fed-Ex brought one of the hand built Alpha kits right to our door!

MBU is selling!! Without breaking any NDA’s we can tell you that MBU is selling faster than any product that I have created in my career. By just keeping one of the lowest “high scores” on a level that is not included in the demo, we can tell that at least 20,000 MBU’s have sold in less than four days. Accoring to this article on Joystiq, Geometry Wars was at 45,000 units a week or so ago, and was the number one title in the channel, “our Halo” according to Greg Canessa. At 800 Gamer Points for MBU vs. 400 for GW, MBU should become the highest grossing title in the channel within the next week or so. Wow, a Halo beater?

Good for them and marble blast... i've come to the conclusion that Arcade is by far the best thing about this console. I've played Zuma over the last week more than i have my 2 games PDZ and kameo combined... Smash tv also

I always had faith that MBU would make its mark but not on this scale. Now you know why many were fiending for "that marble madness game" .

Good news to hear that the 50MB limit might be a thign of the past. It's ridiculous the limit is there to cater to such a small percentage of memory card users only.

I don't even expect that particular market would buy many Arcade games anyway unless they are fine with pissing about deleting and redownloading a game everytime they want to play a different arcade title.

If I were Garage games I would just start making 400 pt expansion packs right now with a new MP mode on each release.

Expansions would be great. 200 points for "Extremely hard" difficulty level, 20 stages. 200 for multiplayer map pack, 6 more maps. Did the bonus missions for Outpost Kaloki give achievement points or are they just missions for fun?

LakeEarth said:

Just for fun. The devs said they would have liked to add achievements to the extra content, but MS was very strict with the 200 point limit on Arcade games. Eventually, I think MS will relax the stance on that one as well.

Those Garage Games guys are a great bunch. I had the immense pleasure of hanging out with them at the S.Y.N.E.R.G.Y. summit while they were in the throes of planning/developing for Live Arcade. No one deserves those sales more than they do, really happy to see MBU become such a success.

I finally got my 360 ths weekend and bought a hard drive yesterday, and I like the demo game, so I might try out live. But I don't really understand how routers and things work. Will my broadband service charge me extra for using one?

Your IP won't charge you extra for using a router. It just sends the signal to whatever device you have connected to it, in this case your PC and your 360.

When you get on Live add me and I'll show you the ropes and answer any questions you might have about the 360:
