Yeah, the Xbox 360's just now getting good.

Now the releases are ramping up, and those releases will lead us right into E3, which will give us holiday 2006 and beyond. And once the PS3 hits, the Xbox 360 floodgates will open.

Thanks for the video. I always knew that "herding sheep" was the key to this game, but I didn't know how extensively you have to do it. I just moved up to nearly 1.8 million now and am in the top 1000 now! Woot!

I absolutely love it when you have all your enemies all on one side of the screen and you have the concentrated firepower. Such an awesome feeling destroying all those enemies and watching your multiplier and score increase like crazy. Geometry Wars rocks!

I am dying here

After I trade in PDZ and Kameo tomorrow, I will have nothing to play until March

This drought is brutal

At least we could've got some decent new Arcade games during this lull

Please, for God's sake, no more top-down shooters like Crystal Quest and Geometry Wars

Goddamn has that genre been beaten to death for me now

Holy mother of ass Microsoft, release something, anything that'll keep me busy for the next 3 weeks

Good God almighty

You're such a tool... trolling every 360 thread. Not sure why you couldn't stay out of this one or even why you're still on GAF. You see the beauty of 360 is that you can see what people are playing... and you haven't played shit.

...and before you chime in about how you don't like COD2, Condemed, DOA4, racing games, etc., then maybe 360 wasn't for you in the first place. Honestly, most 360 owners already have a backlog.

Do you think that when companies like Sony pay viral marketers to post crap in boards, that they actually pay the guys to play the games as well? Hours spent playing are hours that could be spent spamming up the internets.

lol...getting my butt beat on DOA4 Online...it's gonna take me a while to get used to playing against people in this way (I am an online and multiplayer virgin-I'm getting good at MBU though, since I've played it for a week straight now)

Whee!

Xbox 360 Live Arcade Gets Mad Tracks, Novadrome

Gus Mastrapa's fun 'quick, opinionated video game impressions' blog Looky Touchy has put up a post discussing French-created toy car racer Mad Tracks, which both has a downloadable demo for PC, and, according to the official website, will be "on Xbox 360 Live Arcade from March 2006."

As Mastrapa says: "If I was an indie game developer I'd be very excited about Xbox Live Arcade right about now", and Mad Tracks, which hasn't been mentioned much by Microsoft yet, looks lots of fun: " A Car Arcade Party Game [with] Pull back friction vehicles, Acrobatic Tracks", according to the ex-Ubisoft creators. We're looking forward to seeing/downloading it.

In addition, a recent GameCloud interview with Stainless Games' Patrick Buckland, who just debuted the 2006 remake of his own Crystal Quest on XBLA, reveals: "We are producing an original, fully-featured multiplayer combat-driving game called Novadrome for 360 Live Arcade" - another original 360 Live title which has been relatively unheralded thus far, and is due this Spring. In conclusion - darn, it's going to be a good year for console indie titles.

They added Hexic and Bejeweled theme packs and a Crystal Quest marketplace download...

Wonder what those theme packs look like... (and are they free? I'm still at work.)

I'm mediocre at this game, too. Add my tag - EEL O BRIAN - to your friends list if you want, and we can practice being mediocre fighters sometime.

There's actually another type of viral marketer that is hired by the company to act deliberately stupid and troll the machine, making viewers have an overly scathing opinion about the individual and look at the machine more positively. I don't know the official name of this type of marketing, but a link was posted on here a short time ago, I think.

I might be tempted to download the Crystal Quest Sound packs, because the default effects are horrid! They sound like Stainless Game just picked up a bunch of dog toys and squeaked them into the microphone.

I agree.

But we shouldn't have to pay for that shit. ;_;

I understand Xtreme Mode or whatever, needing to pay a little for that, but.. sound packs?

If Crystal Quest gave me MBU levels of enjoyment I might think about buying some of that stuff, but was a really bland game. (I would buy some MBU-related microtransactions just as a thank you to GarageGames :lol)

holy mother of god

xtreme difficulty is really... hard on crystal quest

when you have 40 enemies on screen with 10 mega jewels floating around you get so distracted and die (edit: and that's wave 1)

it's a TRAP

oh and belfast -- you suck :<

you are 1 place higher than me in Crystal quest now :<

Still haven't beaten Mjolnir T Stone, yet, though. That's the only GAFer that I know is higher than me.

Wow, Xtreme is ungodly. :(

I downloaded the nano graphics pack and the synth sounds pack, as well, since I had a few extra points laying around. Nano is weird, kinda cool, but I don't know how well it facilitates play. Everything is sorta black/white, with sparse bits of color here and there, as if you were looking at an ultrasound or something. The synth sounds are better than the regular ones, sound kind of old-schoolish, but not sure if they're as good as they could've been. Still, it is nice to see Stainless releasing extra content. :)

I know this is the arcade thread but don't DL those fight night pic packs!

Despite the pics in the banner looking great, once you DL them, they're like 8 bit color pics. It doesn't even look like a ring girl. :(

I have Geometry Wars and Evolution on PGR 3, but it prompts me that the "full version" of GW is available on Live. Is the XBL Arcade version any different from the one in PGR3, or does "full version" just mean "standalone, with Live rankings etc"??

I can't wait for SF2 and Hold 'Em. Hold 'Em was the first thing I thought of the minute I entered the arcade, in fact. Also, am I the only GAFer who bought and plays billiards? I wish it had some MonkeyBall style 3d viewing options, but for the most part I really enjoy it as a diversion between the "real" games.

I have billards as well. It's the first game I did buy off of arcade

Live version has no timer.

I finally broke 1 million pts on Geo Wars last night and XBLA never updated my score on the leaderboard. Still stuck at 838K+. :'( It gave me the achievement, though.

Geometry Wars (the original) comes packed with Evolved when you download it. But yeah, no timer and you get all the rankings and whatnot. At 400 points, it is worth it!

you might not have been logged in at the time. that happened to me once. i found that my network was down for a couple minutes.

It can also take a while to update your top score, I broke my record but the leaderboard still showed my old score for a few hours, but this morning it had updated.

My guess is the GW scoreboard is not realtime.

Undoubtedly a precaution to protect against the score hacking that went on around New Years.

It usually is, but sometimes it can take time. No obvious reason why though.

I got me-self a new Crystal Quest highscore (130+ mil), and I promise I am not gonna try to beat it. Getting that score was so boring :lol

Son of a flippin'.... AAAGH.

Just got 987,000 something on Geo Wars. I could TASTE that million, but my last two lives I died almost instantly.

Rrrrr... allright, gives me something to do tonight I guess.

Exactly what do you do for that, anyway? Just wait on each level for the crystals? Any level in particular?

By the way, I FINALLY passed level 9 in Zuma. Got up to 12 actually, the final level, and it's REALLY difficult. It's like an angry and surly level 9. :(

Awesome, I snapped out of my Zuma addiction right after beating level 9. I still have my game saved midway through 10-1 :lol

This paragraph will allow you guys to beat my highscore... but luckily I don't care about this one. Basically, kill every enemy that spawns. Once they stop spawning, grab 1 more crystal, and repeat. 1-2 waves of enemies gives a super crystal. Some stages work better than others, such as stage 10, where its nothing but electric pink blobs. Those pink things give 50000 points each, and 20 of them spawn per crystal you grab. So literally that one level gave me 50 million points alone, with no challenge whatsoever.

I seriously cannot pass this level... I actually got Zuma called on stage 9-7 a few nights ago, but I lost my cool and screwed the game up. So frustrating. I've been going for the Son of Sun challenge instead. I think I only have 8/22 stages to go :?

got 1 million points in geo wars! w00t!

now i just need to get 20 million and 2 achievements... survive 1 million and 10x multiplier

now one thing i noticed in my struggle of awesomeness

you can't get more than 9 lives / bombs

WTF is that

:<

That would be me. :) What is my score, anyway? I only played the game 2 or 3 times the day I bought it and haven't looked since then.

What's your gamertag? It seems we have similar skills in Geo Wars, so it would be fun to compete with you. :) I almost did 2 million today. Just like 50000 short.

you geo wars freaks are fucking nuts. my hands where shaking and i was cheering so hard when i just got my highest score ever of 523k. my gamertag will never see higher than that. ever.

Don't know when they started doing this, but over at xbox.com, they've now separated the upcoming Live Arcade game list from the non - Live Arcade game list. So, now, at a first glance, you can easily see what Live Arcade games are coming out. Sweet!

That's what you think! :D Seriously, a week ago, I was saying the same thing! When I started to play I thought I would never reach 100k. It's all about following the patterns! Give it some ore training and memorize some patterns, and you'll see it's easier then you think.

Edit: Oh, and you have to use bombs! My biggest mistake was saving bombs "for later", but you should use them as often as you need, IMO. If you don't die because you used a bomb, you keep your multiplier up, and get new bombs much more quickly, so you never run out of bombs.

anyone down for a GAF marble blast fest? i'm thinking either thursday or friday night. someone wanna set this up and get things coordinated? i'm lazy as hell right now.

Am I the only one who only enjoys knocking around other people in Marble Blast online? Running around like an idiot collecting gems isn't very fun. Blasting someone into orbit as mega marble is kicking rad, however.

I like to play King of the Marble using the "stay in the middle of the board and spam Mega-Marble while people try to play cat-and-mouse with me" strategy. It's effective, but a side effect of it is that people think I'm a dick for doing it. I hate it when people play Zenith, though, because you spend all your time fighting the ice.

Oddly, I have never seen a full party of people play Battle Cube, however. I guess it's not a very good map

:lol :lol :lol Same here. I love getting the mega marble and jumping onto of the other people making them go FLYING! Better than collecting fucking gems all the time

I was wondering something - Is Marble Blast Ultra worth the purchase? I'm loving the demo.
If you actually liked the demo, then absolutely. A lot of people played the demo and didn't like it, but bought the full game anyways and loved it. It has a lot to do with the levels in the demo, I suppose.
