Xbox 360 owners will have a bit more of a reason to join their upcoming Block Party promotion. While the March initiative is primarily focused on the releases of Toy Soldiers (March 3rd), Scrap Metal (March 10th), Perfect Dark (March 17th), and Game Room (March 24th), Microsoft has also announced that gamers who purchase all 4 titles will receive a 400 MS Point rebate, and Xbox Live Gold members will see an additional month added to their subscription as well. Finally, the weekend following the release of Game Room, all Xbox Live Silver members will be treated to a free multiplayer weekend on Xbox Live for all Block Party titles. Microsoft provided this information with the caveat that all Xbox Live Arcade release dates are subject to change without notice, but we're pretty confident that you'll actually be able to deploy those suitcase guns this time around.
February 22, 2010 - The old school platformer Super Meat Boy has been one of our most anticipated WiiWare games since we played it last year. Players control the titular bag of bloody gore through stage after stage of deadly challenges like meat grinders and buzz saws, all in the name of love. Super Meat Boy is nominated for the Grand Prize at this year's Independent Game Festival, so that should give you some sense of its quality.
The 2D game doesn't make use of any Wii-specific controls, though -- all you need is a D-pad and a jump button. That left us hoping more gamers would be able to play it on other systems. Today Super Meat Boy's developer, Team Meat, confirmed to IGN that the game is also coming to Xbox Live Arcade (it was also previously announced for PC). Makes sense -- all of the preview versions of the game we've played have been on a PC with an Xbox 360 controller.
More surprising, though, is that Super Meat Boy will arrive on XBLA first. The WiiWare and PC versions will follow shortly after. Team Meat is hoping for a summer release. A Mac version is also in the works, but there are no current plans to bring the game to the PlayStation Network (although Team Meat tells us it has Super Meat Boy up and running on a PlayStation 3 test kit).
Previously announced for WiiWare, Super Meat Boy will now arrive on XBLA first.
Bringing the game to XBLA will allow Team Meat to do more with Super Meat Boy than it can on WiiWare. The game is currently about half finished and is already around 35MB in size. Nintendo limits the size of WiiWare games to 42MB, so Team Meat will have much more breathing room on Microsoft's service. Among the new features planned for the XBLA version is online play. The developer would like each version of the game to have some exclusive content, such as exclusive characters.
Now that Dante's Inferno has been loosed upon the gaming populace, the question of "What's next for Visceral Games?" is asked with increasing (and often comical!) frequency. Yeah, we know about Dead Space 2 and there are murmurs of "The Ripper" being in development at Redwood Shores, but what else? While emphasizing the studio's focus on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, general manager Nick Earl said, "That's not to say that we don't have smaller efforts under way and direct-to-consumer efforts on XBLA and PSN."
Earl points to DICE's downloadable Battlefield 1943, "which was created in a studio even bigger than Visceral" and managed to break sales records. "That is showing the opportunity there," says Earl, noting that Visceral will "have some interesting offerings over this year and next."
We're fine with that strategy so long as one of those offerings is "The Body Count of Monte Cristo." The pitch: You play as the wrongfully imprisoned Edmond Dantès, toiling away years of captivity under the tutelage of your friend, the monk Abbé Faria. Learn mathematics, history, language, and kicking ass, all in preparation for your escape. Resurface years later as the Count of Monte Cristo and exact your revenge across 20 levels of 19th-century action, bond market simulation, and romance minigames. This summer, count down to action with The Body Count of Monte Cristo, from Visceral Games!
Microsoft has also announced that gamers who purchase all 4 titles will receive a 400 MS Point rebate

Yeah, Lazy Raiders is the only game this week that I've got any kind of interest towards.Family Fry said:Fret Nice demo on ps3 for me killed it and the 1200 points price burys it.
Lazy Raiders I have been interested in so that looks like a possible buy, Greed Corp will need to trial it not really clued up on it. On the plus side it's always nice to have 3 to choose from and try out.

Plus I'm still missing the last death-match achievement. Freaking multiplayer died like a week after the game came out.
XBLA games need SFIV's open game feature so people can join in at any time.Captain N said:That seems to be the case with most XBLA games with multiplayer.
Yes it would help a lot, long as you can easily turn it on and off in case you don't want to play MP.SapientWolf said:XBLA games need SFIV's open game feature so people can join in at any time.

The German USK rating board has rated a new title - The Path Of Go, a new board game for the Xbox Live Arcade courtesy of the people who developed the Kodu Game Lab.
Looking for further information, we stumbled across the game at a list of demos shown at TechVista 2010. It descritpion tells us it's, obviously, based on the Chinese board game Go, contains "visually stunning 3D scenes", online multiplayer and use of the F# computer language. As it was rated on the USK rating system, this will be an Xbox Live Arcade title, not an Xbox Live Indie game like Kodu was.
We've had several Chess games come to XBLA, we've had Shotest Shogi too - I guess Go is the next step
While Ignition Entertainment have been bringing Japanese titles over to the West for several years now, it appears that they'll begin to publish more Western content soon - starting with several titles on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.
Shane Bettenhausen, the Director of Business Development at Ignition, made a quick stop over at the 4 Guys 1UP podcast on the weekend. On the podcast he spoke of Ignition now looking fto publish Western content to the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, and are "on the cusp" of announcing several titles for both platforms. From the sounds of it this was with Independant developers around the United States, and not just their internal studio in Florida.
With both download platforms getting more and more crowded it's great to see more smaller publishers getting in and giving more independent developers a chance to shine. We should expect some announcements in the coming months.

The arbitrary achievement cap proved problematic with games released with more trophies on PSN. Call of Duty Classic has close to 30 (including a Platinum) on PS3 whereas the number is artificially limited to 12 achievements on XBLA. Trine would have faced a similar dilemma had that port actually gone ahead.Orellio said:I don't know.. Tinker on PC has 15 achievements without any DLC. I hadn't heard about PD having 20 until now but more cheevos in XBLA seems like a direction MS is very purposefully headed towards.

New developer Punchers Impact has announced its first game, Crasher, for PC, PSN and XBLA.
A multiplayer online arena game, Crasher focuses on team battles between customisable cars called Stars. Their weaponry and skills can be customised and upgraded so you can build your car to fit your team's tactics.
There will be ladder rankings based on results from various modes like Deathmatch and Last Man Standing, plus a Garage mode where more Stars and equipment can be unlocked. Maybe Xzibit works there.
Punchers Impact was formed in October 2009 and already has a meaty 40 employees drawing from "solid financial foundations".
Crashers will be released in "late 2010".
Any pics of the Avatar Awards?xbhaskarx said:I bought Lazy Raider and Greed Corp.
Lazy is great for anyone who is into puzzles. It unlocked like three avatar items just from me navigating through the menu. You can play as your avatar, right up there with Keflings in terms of the implementation. There are 75 levels plus a 5 level tutorial. I played like 15 levels, getting like 4-5 achievements without really trying. It's a really well done game, definitely worth 800 points. Buy it!
Greed Corp I have only played three levels so the jury is still out.
Apparently there are two, not three: Dr. Diggabone's outfit and hat.cjelly said:Any pics of the Avatar Awards?

The followup to 2009s Dead Samurai, The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile is a combo-fueled, fast-paced, stylistic 2D action platformer that features the series staple gritty, graphic novel-inspired art style, built on a brand new engine that allows for an even more visually gruesome experience. Gamers will wield new weapons like the Violence Hammer, whose business end consists of a section of girder wrapped in barbed wire and random hardware, and the Painkiller, a six foot long syringe. The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile comes with two solo character campaigns as well as a co-op campaign, 50 quick arcade challenges and an endless Dish Challenge.

There have been great games released almost every week this year so far, the entire year if you actually like KrissX. And it looks like they've managed to fill up March with goodness too. It's just far, far too much to keep up with. Hell, it's been too much to keep up with for a long time now actually.
