State of Capcoms Digital Union

From Capcoms Christian Svensson, Vice President of Strategic Planning & Business Development:
In the grand scheme of things, my hopes for Capcoms digital initiative are still just getting started. Theres been a few fits and starts. Admittedly, some games are a bit later than wed hoped (held back in the name of quality and feature improvement) but weve learned a ton about the space and we continue to learn more with every release. By and large, Im really pleased with how were positioning ourselves, the quality of the content in our pipeline and our level of sales success to date. My fingers are crossed that it continues and thank you guys for your continued support. All of that said, I thought Id call attention to a few major milestones that Capcom and our development partners have worked very hard to achieve (these guys really deserve a pat on the back):
Highest Revenue Generating XBLA Title (still) - Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting
First Cross-platform Simultaneous Digital Launch from Any Publisher (PSN/XBLA) - Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix
First Third Party Published Game Content on the PSP PC Store Harvey Birdman Demo
First Third Party Published Content on the European PSN Store SCEE tells us it will be Rocketmen
First PS3 Title to Handle In-game Purchase/Conversion From Within a Demo - Rocketmen
First Cross-platform Global Simultaneous Launch Maybe* (PSN/XBLA Europe/NA/Asia) Rocketmen
*Were still trying to get a final date out of SCEE but Rocketmen was approved last week so were hoping itll go live with US and Asia on March 6th, failing that, Im betting itll be the 13th.
While some of the above milestones have nominal impact to your experience as a consumer, the development and industry folks among you, Im sure can recognize the importance and challenges inherent in reaching some of those achievements.
In a couple short weeks, youre going to learn a good deal more about some new titles as well as updates on some of the titles youve been eagerly awaiting.
I honestly believe that Capcom is treating this space more seriously than any other third party publisher. The level of ambition in our titles as far as feature sets, target platforms and quality of execution (both from a product development and marketing standpoint) will continue to climb. You will see us giving ever increasing value to our fans as we move further and further out into our digital product roadmap.
I honestly believe that Capcom is treating this space more seriously than any other third party publisher.

:::sigh::: Can't wait to see how they've ruined THESE classics next.

It's possible that Stainless are operating under unreasonable time & budgetary restrictionsor they could just be Talentless lol
Hmm, they're the aliens. I expected a wholly different race...xblarcade said:Here's some screenshots and a gameplay vid:

Considering they say that the new race is more powerful, I'm worried that it's the only race anyone is going to be using from now on.

They put a few other guidelines PDFs up, too, and they're dated November 2007, so this may be new. There's loads of them, too. The Arcade logo part stays the same, but there's GFW Arcade, MSN Arcade, Microsoft Arcade, Windows Live Messenger Arcade. Microsoft possibly trying set one brand over multiple platforms?
Anyone know if this is new?

That would make sense. The date of this PSF is 21st September 2007.Shard said:Microsoft was supposed to axpand the Arcade onto the PC last fall but nothing has ever come of it.

Mar_ said:Oh really? I can't find anything on the official forums or blog about it. I wonder what it does.
SHOTEH FOCK OP said:How many "updates" does the Xbox 360 store? After I play a ton of different games in a row, I have to update titles again that I KNOW don't have a new update out. I am assuming these updates are stored on internal memory and not your hard drive, hence the need to "purge" older updates? Or am I confused?
Mar_ said:No idea about that. I've only ever had to update games when an actual new update is available. Unless you are clearing your cache yourself then there's no reason why you'd have to install the same update over and over again.

* Play with friends: Jump into online multiplayer and challenge your friends online.
Rlan said:About time. Bliss Island hasn't even been ANNOUNCED yet officially by anyone and yet it's got it's own XBLA page.
That's ridiculous.
A fast-paced sci-fi themed top-down shooter should be the bread and butter of a service like XBLA, yet Rocketmen fudges its enormous potential in almost every area. It's a crude and unappealing game, marred by at least three design decisions (the scrolling, the time-limited weapons, the long-winded upgrade system) that immediately make the gameplay a grind rather than a blast. Here's hoping Worms has been a big enough hit on Xbox Live Arcade for Team 17 to give serious consideration to bringing us a revamped Alien Breed. There's an itch that needs to be scratched, and this clumsy effort certainly isn't going to hit the spot.
I always play demos... 5 mins of my time to decide if a game is good or not really isn't anything of a loss.SHOTEH FOCK OP said:So I'm torn. Do I download the Rocketmen demo as a show of support for Xbox Live Arcade, or do I avoid it completely to send the message I will not put up with shitty games. I've heard enough impressions that I know I'm not missing much.

Yeah, this is a shame. I was all for Capcom and their downloadable game initiative. Let's hope this is just a small blip.segarr said:Yeah so much for "Capcom takes digital downloads most seriously":lol I think people got a little excited about the joint PSN releases and their general XBLA bashing.

Bionic Commando: Super Joe Returns
By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar"
Mar. 5th, 2008 9:07 am
Capcom announced today that Super Joe, the hero of the original arcade version of Bionic Commando, will make a comeback in Bionic Commando Rearmed.
We're happy to have him back after so long, and even though we're only showing you what he looks like in Bionic Commando Rearmed for the moment, rest assured that as Spencer's commanding officer, we expect Super Joe will be making an appearance in the 3D version also.
Bionic Commando Rearmed is a makeover of the classic 8-bit game originally released 20 years ago. The game sees a return of the intense 2D side scrolling, shooting and grappling action from the much-loved 1988 Bionic Commando on the original 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System.

Braid videos!
On the internet!
Rejoice! A couple of videos of upcoming XBLA title Braid have made it onto the interwebs. Which makes us rather excited.
For the uninitiated, Braid is an independently-developed 2D platformer with a charming art style, and a penchant for messing with the flow of time. Rather than just being your usual Prince of Persia rip-off, though, Braid is unique in the way that time itself behaves differently in each level, and you've got to figure out the patterns if you want to progress. If you're intrigued - and you bloody well should be - check the videos below.
