Indeed, Commanders a bit average, Band of Bugs is a better game, plus it comes with added DLC Campaigns and a level editor and if I recall correctly that game has level editor sharing.

Okay, so what do you get for a fiver, a fin, a Dead Lincoln, a half a sawbuck?

The first part is the addition of five single-player/co-op levels in what becomes Act IV of the game, also called “Path of the Elect.” The section gives you background on the new race that you’ll be playing—an alien civilization made up of fish-like creatures equipped with fins and ready to fight with their powerful beam weapons. The levels are a big collection of narrow pathways, shelves and water jets that either prevent you from getting into an area easily or sucks you in if you get too close. Some of the jets also change direction during the gameplay, so it’s like a changing maze you have to keep finding different ways through.

The gameplay itself is much the same as the original game, with a series of control points your team needs to try to capture, and if you can keep the other faction(s) at bay, you’ll score a victory, with gold, silver and bronze medals in three categories, depending on how you did. And, of course, it seems that this Act doesn’t resolve the whole story, so there’s easily a door open for another expansion and new adventures within the Undertow universe.



Path of the Elect also offers you four new multiplayer maps, made up of the Destroyer, Proclus, Capital and Vanguard levels from the main campaign’s new section. The structure here carries over from the initial release, with matches for up to 16 players (and you have variably-skilled bots fill in any missing spots). Two gameplay modes are available: the free-for-all Deathmatch, which has teams setting out to rack up the most enemy kills; and Conquest, which is the control-point-capture game that you’re familiar with from the main campaign. Again, the Elect becomes the fourth playable race here as well, with each faction having different weapons and looks, but essentially being evenly balanced in the heat of a match.

It would have been nice to maybe add a little more in the way of achievements, but it’s not that surprising given that it’s an inexpensive update. The campaign levels will add, at a minimum, an hour if you just want to play through them on the Casual (easiest ) difficulty. Taking them on at Normal or Ultra, and getting time with your friend and players from around the world in multiplayer matches adds how ever much time you want to spend. Heck, even if you play the multiplayer with the rest of the player count being populated by bots, and then try on the harder difficulties to survive and win, that’s a fair value for the Microsoft Points. Combine a no-cost game and a five-dollar booster pack, and you’ve got a good amount of unique shooter action for very little investment. Really…if you’re a gamer looking for some fun, how could you complain about that?

So on the Major Nelson podcast, the metanet guy said they'd passed 50k already for n+, which is what they'd originally hoped for their total sales to reach. Sounds like it's a major success for them. There will be DLC with extra levels later, apparently.

cool I'll give it a listen, wonder if there is anything on level sharing, doubt Nelson will bring it up tho. As for DLC yes but I still have a long long way to go :D


Also whats the bets on this weeks, could it be what a lot of us have been waiting for?

I wrote a review, and part of my review said:

"It's best not to sugar-coat it, there is not much to like about the game. In truth, it is worse than been stuck in a small room with Jeff Bell and forced to listen to him prattle on until the end of time. I guess if I wanted to resort to hyperbole I could say I wanted to remove my eyeballs from their sockets after playing, although in all honesty that is skirting far too close to the truth to be seen as an overstatement of my hatred of this game. "

I don't think buying is a good idea.

I spent about 6 straight hours playing with my nephews and another 3-4 doing more leveling up last night for fun. I'm actually really enjoying it and my nephews (ages 9, 10 and 12) even liked the script (kids these days). And the game is really long... about 7-8 hours I'd wager on first play through... then there's the leveling up part that continues past that.

I'm definitely not getting all of the hate. Once you get about an hour in, and level up your character a bit, it's a lot of fun, especially with other people. If you aren't enjoying it, I suspect it's because you're not playing with other people. As with Gauntlet, as a solo experience, it isn't too fun (something I learned last night in my xp grinding runs).

Net code is solid when it's working (that is to say, the networked game experience doesn't slow down or anything even with four people) but there are some disconnect issues and such.

Awful. Pure molten awful. within it is contained the base of a fairly solid and fun game, but the camera completely ruins any sense of fun. It's frustrating, stupid, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Rocketmen could have been a much better game if they had a good producer overseeing the project.

They probably didn't want to spend more money trying to turn the game around seeing as how it is a XBLA game, afterall.

Brain Challenge wasn't that bad on DS at all. One of the better Brain Age knockoffs. Never really seen anything of Bliss Island, but the price is right.

Ok guys,. I got 900 points,. can someone please recommend me some games that are worth to get,. I dont feel like downloading all the trials and playing them 1 by 1

I have to agree with this. I thought Band of Bugs just needed a level editor and more units to round out the experience. The gameplay in Commanders seemed sloppy and overwrought, while the design and presentation were really forgettable.

If the friends leaderboards are done right it could be ace!

Thanks. I <3 the hori stick for the 360 so was looking for more stuff to use it with.
 
I love the MS3 port. It's not perfect, but it's currently my only way to play the game. Online co-op is also a blast. Sure, there's a small amount of lag. I find it barely noticeable, but it'd prevent a perfect play. I'm not trying to master the game completely, so it works for me.
 
Bliss island has a terrible trial, I have no idea id the full game is a minigolf/pinball type sink the ball game or its mini games.

no buy, even for 400 points, was a pretty zen like experiance.
