After a few weeks of long, LONG hours at work - I give you:

What needs to be on XBLA? #5 - Chu Chu Rocket!

http://www.xblah.net/2008/04/what-needs-to-be-on-xbla-5-chu-chu.html
An enduring mystery, that one. Everyone I know says how great it would be. Seems so obvious. Much more suited than stuff like Ecco. Gah, Sega are just so rubbish these days, they can't even make the most of the stuff they have that's good. :(

Also, I have added nostalgia as it was the first thing I ever played online.

NinjaBee's currently KNOWN project is the Advergame "Doritos Dash of Destruction" for XBLA. Which apparently has little to do with Doritos, so it may actually be good, unlike Yaris (which was Backbone).

Looks like Grand Theft T-Rex.

Nice interview, did they mention if Robotology was being considered for release on XBLA(or one of the other dl services)?
They didn't provide a clear answer for that, but it'll probably get released elsewhere after the PC version is complete if I were to guess, given the success of N+.

How is the new Rocky & Bowinkle table on Pinball FX? Too bad that game has terrible physics, otherwise I'd give it a try.
I played it for a bit last night. Seemed pretty good but I couldn't work out the specials.

Microsoft should really add a requirement for multiplayer XBLA games to actually have some proper netcode.

How many broken XBLA online games do we have now? Mr Driller, Doom, Lumines Live, SWOS, Speedball 2, Metal Slug 3, and probably a lot more.

The general rule seems to be that if a game is an emulation or port, then you can pretty much assume online multiplayer is unplayable.

N+, TMNT 1989, Contra, etc.

I beat every N+ co-op level online. Either I'm a master ninja or the lag wasn't all that bad.

No US release? Do Microsoft and Treasure hate money?

If there's a chance it will come out in NA then I'd rather wait and not be bothered to switch accounts just to play one game...

Apparently MS and Bandai Namco are officially looking into the Mr. Driller issues:

The Arcade Shooter Gamers Have Been Clamoring For: Treasure’s “Ikaruga” Launches On Xbox LIVE Arcade this Wednesday and Void Star Releases New Downloadable Content for “Poker Smash”

The Japanese arcade hit “Ikaruga” receives the full Xbox LIVE Arcade treatment and is poised to launch on the platform this Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. GMT (1:00 a.m. PDT).

“Ikaruga” is a fast-paced scrolling shooter with a twist – players must constantly switch their ship’s polarity to maximize their damage output and avoid incoming enemy fire of the opposite polarity.

“Ikaruga” on Xbox LIVE Arcade features a two-player co-op mode both locally and over Xbox LIVE. Newcomers can also easily bring their skill up to speed by using the game’s slow motion training mode.
“Ikaruga” is a perfect combination of beautiful, manga-style storytelling and challenging arcade heroics, all brought to life in a gorgeous HD environment.

Gamers itching to obtain a moment of “Ikaruga” glory will be wise to master the chaining system that detects when enemies of the same polarity are destroyed consecutively. Doing so will reward players with huge score bonuses, which will be key to topping “Ikaruga’s” leaderboards.

The ability to relive a particularly harrowing battle is also possible thanks to the game’s record and replay function, which is new to the Xbox LIVE Arcade version of the game.

From the Japanese developer Treasure, “Ikaruga” will be available worldwide for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB. For more details on “Ikaruga” please visit:

Independent developer Void Star Creations unveils two new downloadable content packs for their hit Xbox LIVE Arcade title, “Poker Smash” this Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. GMT (1:00 a.m. PDT). The new content includes two Action Mode Environments in the Environment Pack and an additional 15 Puzzles in the Puzzle Pack, giving “Poker Smash” players a total of 13 immersive environments and 70 mind bending puzzles. The “Poker Smash” Environment Pack and Puzzle Pack will each be available for 100 Microsoft Points.

“Poker Smash” is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB. For more details on “Poker Smash” please visit:

I was wondering when Ikaruga was going to come out. I just read this months OXM which they reviewed it. Idk whether to spend my 800 points on this or the new halo maps next week.

I bought it and I like it as much or better than the other two DLC tables. I think the license is well utilized.

I also just realized that there is a help screen on each table that will detail the specials and ramps and such of each table. Helps out a lot.

Mr. Driller lovers, I played the Mr. Driller demo over the weekend and I just pressed the "A" button until I reached the bottom, and the demo ended. Is this all there is to the game?

OK thanks for setting me straight on that, Shard. Looking forward to Wednesday!

A replay function? Was this mentioned before?

They're really doing this up right. I have never played Ikaruga before, so the training mode will get some good use at my house.

Tell me more!

It's a single player 2d polygonal sidescroller. According to EGM, the game is "inspired by classics like Metroid and Castlevania." The largest screenshot shows a figure in black clothing aiming a gun (with laser pointer) at two soldiers who are located inside what appears to be some kind of factory. There are two huge mechs behind the character. The screenshot reminds me a lot of Metal Gear.

The other (smaller) screenshot shows the character pointing a flashlight at a tree in a wooded area.

The concept art looks very sci-fi... It shows a black cyborg-looking dude (with a cape) standing on top of a mech that just finished tearing apart the side of a building.

It's an Unreal Engine 3 game, and (according to EGM) it will likely be a multiplatform title.

Interesting. Is that all the EGM preview said? And did they say whether it'll definitely be a single player only game with no multiplayer modes like co-op?

I don't think they mentioned co-op but they did mention that it will possibly be multiplatform.

And for the record Undertow is pretty cool. It looks and plays pretty good. I'm saying this as a form of repentance for bashing this game in the past, now that I've spent a bit more time with it.

Oh damn. Tough choice. I'll be getting both, but I think if I had to choose one it would be the map pack simply by virtue of the fact that it includes forge filters.

I played Assault Heroes 2 today. The first level is so incredibly similar to part 1, I found myself wondering if I had actually booted AH1 by mistake.

It looked nicer and played a bit smoother though.

I think TXB gave it a 9/10 before they yanked the review. What did OXM give it?

Huh? Partner-net?

Right, I was randomly checking out the latest release date revision of IGN Xbox 360 when I came across a miost curious entry.

http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/142/14228706.html

Indeed, they have somehow given the Bionic Commando Rearmed a release date of May 14, 2008, which is a Wednesday, by the way. Now, this is the real fun part. I ran a Google search for a Bionic Commando Rearmed release date and I learned that IGN isn't the only ones who have this exact date entered into their database.

http://www.gametrailers.com/game/6083.html

http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/bionic-commando-2d/

http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/17853

(Note: 1UP.com has a listing of May 15)

Now, I am currently unsure as to where the true source of this information is coming from, but the fact is that multiple websites belonging to different media groups all have this information (The 1up Date would be for the PSN version). Such a convergence I find to be not coincidental.

What about the difficulty? Is it still a little easy with a low number of enemies? That's what I didn't like of the original Assault Heroes.

I remember mid-last year it was rumoured that Doom II and Final Doom were rumoured to be heading to XBLA. I think they were rated by the ESRB? Still in the pipeline I guess? :D

I'd love those...would both games be in a bundle or seperate?

Well there are two ESRB pieces for Xbox 360 - "Ultimate DOOM" (aka just Doom) and "Final DOOM" (The MegaWad, made by fans version). I don't think Doom II strictly has been announced, just rumored.

Felt just about the same. There were some more bigger tanks and stuff than I can remember in AH1, but they were pretty easy to take out. I didn't play very far, though.

Since we're still experimenting and going by feel in the digital distribution arena, the companies opted to try the greediest approach possible so...no chance in hell. They'll be separate and be as much as they can get away with charging.

See Tron and Discs of Tron, for one.
