Is nobody interested in Assault Heroes 2? I came on hoping for some impressions. The first game was great, IMO.
I played the AH2 trial, and compared to AH1 it's a lot more hectic, and when your guy on screen is the size of an ant it gets really confusing. It'd be OK if the vehicle's paint scheme would be, like, a bright yellow or something and/or the HUD would do a far better job of highlighting who/what you are, but when it's not like that it's a little frustrating.

June seems the month.

Also, I'd like Konami, but Sega first, to announce new XBLA titles at their events.

Assualt Heros 2 seems to be a good game that is getting ignored around here for some reason, and also Konami has shit in the pipline that they do need to announce.

I tried the demo last night (since I am a huge fan of the first game) but AH2 sort of feels off. The aiming feels off and the first level it felt sort of easy to get "lost" in the game world. Not sure if it's the palette or whatnot but the vehicle doesn't seem to stand out from the game world as much as the original.
The aiming felt wonky too, not sure why but it seemed like the minigun wasn't aiming what I expected.. sort of hard to explain.

I'm preoccupied with GTA4 now which might be the case of a lot of people but I'll likely give AH2 another go when I have more time to decide if it deserves a buy.

AH2 seems too similar to the first. I'd probably bite but I have plenty of other Live stuff to get through in the meantime... but that's the cool thing about XBLA, if I'm feeling lazy/bored, it's there to be bought.

Downloaded AH2 demo last night and really enjoyed it. The music is so much better, seems like there are more chances to fight on foot, control seems a little tighter, and the weapons are a little better. I'll pick it up after I finish the first one.

Penny Arcade adventures with Torque 360

Ed Fear Today, 2:37pm

Forthcoming episodic cartoon RPG built with GarageGames' tech

GarageGames' Torque 360 engine has been picked by Hothead Games for its first episode in the Penny Arcade Adventures saga.

The game is the latest in a long line of Xbox Live Arcade games to use the Torque engine, which has . Hothead's main reason for choosing the engine, though, was for its cross-platform support, with Hothead president Vlad Ceraldi saying: "Rather than building platform code from from the ground up, using Torque gave us far more time to hone the actual game."

Brett Seyler, VP of business development for GarageGames, added: "Torque keeps improving with every trial. The Hothead team took Torque in a unique rendering direction and we learned a lot from that. To Hothead's huge credit, the results are awesome. Looking at the game now, it's a blast to play and definitely faithful to the Penny Arcade Comic's style and humor."

it's quality but i wouldn't exactly call it a shot of adrenaline. peggle, although old, will be though.

I played the AH2 demo last night and it seems to be good. Yes, it's more of the same but if you are like me and enjoyed the first game then it's great. I bought the first game when it dropped to $5. May wait on this one too and see what happens, since it seems to be mostly ignored. Games remind me of Jackal which is a good thing.

Personally, when it comes to twin-stick shooting. I MUCH prefer something like AH where there are scrolling levels and goals to something like Geometry Wars or SuperStardust where you are just on one "field" for most of the game. I get bored pretty quickly with those.

I also have the trial version of Omega5 on my 360, I've played through the demo a few times and like it alot, but again I'm a cheapass. Waiting on AH1 paid off and I've got plenty of other games so we'll see.

That is well beyond being a "cheap-ass". Are you accounting for it credit by credit, assuming one credit is 25c or something?

I'm not sure what you are suggesting. I just meant that I'd rather pay $5 for a game than $10 any day. I don't look at it like an arcade game or anything as far as "worth" is concerned. I just don't want to spend the money if I don't have to. Having patience "paid off" by saving me $5. I do the same thing with most disc games.

I'll be buying Bionic Commando: Rearmed the day it comes out for full price. The original is one of my all-time faves.

AH2 just didn't do it for me. I think I would rather see a Total Carnage remake at this point, or an XBLA version of Animales de la Muerte. The gameplay was competent, but I didn't feel like I was bringing apocalyptic levels of mayhem, death and destruction, which is what I like about that type of shooter.

I'm not ignoring AH2! It's an awesome game. I'm enjoying it more than the first one.
Same here. Loving every minute of it. Much better game than the original. I wish my friend would download it. I really need a co-op partner.

Man I wish more games were 5 bucks. I like a lot of these games... Mr Driller, Luxor 2, Word Puzzle, etc., but I don't feel right paying 10 bucks for em. Those types of smaller games should be 5.

GAF, what XBLA game should I buy?

I've only actually bought Doom, Geometry Wars, Lumines LIVE! (Base Pack) and Rez HD, but I also own Carcassone, Undertow, and Hexic. I'm asking now because I'm likely going to be without broadband for 3 months, and I've got 900 MS points burning a hole in my account.

I've heard awesome things about Pac-man CE, but while I haven't played the trial for very long, I have to admit that I wasn't really feeling it.

I just got introduced to the tabletop version of Catan and loved that, and the 360 trial is fun, too, but I just don't know if I want to buy the game just to play against the AI.

I also know Ikaruga is amazing, but again, I wasn't really feeling the trial.

So, give me your recommendations. I'd love to know what you guys think.

Let me break with tradition and say you should go and buy two 400 point games, I would personally recommend Marble Blast Ultra and Jetpac Refuled.

Honestly, I wish that MS would use the summer months for XBLA instead of just throwing out more quality XBLA games towards the end of the year when everyones dollars will be going towards the best disc based games out there.

Help a poor indie dev out and give Poker Smash a try.

Apparently they are not smart enough to come to that realization.
Although we should be getting some big games this summer, like Castle Crashers.

so awesome the type of game you guys were able to put together with such a small team. they should have you guys run an xbla boot camp for some of the other devs.

There are some pretty "big" and promising XBLA games scheduled for this summer: Bionic Commando Rearmed, Vigilante 8 Arcade, Braid, Castle Crashers, Lode Runner, Commando 3 (w/ SF2 HD Remix beta), etc.

Of course some will probably get delayed, but it's a pretty nice lineup IMO.

The rumors were true after all.

Accidental announcement - Housemarque's Golf: Tee it up!

Team Xbox have accidentily released the very first screenshots for an upcoming XBLA title - Golf: Tee it up!

From what we can see from the shots - the game looks absolutely fantastic, with green hills and fantastic choices for colour - it could be the best looking game on the Xbox Live Arcade!

And why shouldn't it - according to the Team Xbox website, the game is being developed by Housemarque - better known for the graphical splendor that is Super Stardust HD on the Playstation Network! It's being published by Activision as well, their only other title being Vigilante 8 Arcade and previously DOOM.

The announcement, we can assume, is next week - so look out for it. In the meantime, check out all the brand new pictures at Team Xbox, or if they take them down, there is a backup of them available here! Can't wait!

Big thanks to user Chagrin for the tip!

From the Castle Crashers thread:

Castle Crashers is completely completed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel really great about how the final product has come out after playing through a few times last night. I’m very proud of what our team was able to accomplish. This game is undoubtedly the largest 360 XBLA game that has any kind of story; Large in scope, takes hours and hours to go through with your buddies. Lots of little treasures and secrets hiding around the levels, many unlockable characters all with a different feel, and lastly, no real weak spots in the game that I can foresee haunting me for the rest of my life.

Now before anyone goes to turn on their 360 to give it a look please note that it takes a couple months at the very least from this point. It has to go through all the required hoops of certification/final testing & all that jazz before it will actually become available on the service. Because of this, amongst other things, there is no actual release date that we can give anyone right now. However I have to say it’s a good feeling know that the crashers are working their way into the world as you are reading this, isn’t it?

I have included new screenshots of a couple levels being played above. Here you can see danger in the dreaded ice arena, as well as the war in the bear village (this was also posted in the media section ).

I (and the rest of the team I am certain) want to thank you all for the patience you have shown as we worked on this project. We too were anxious for the game to be finished - but we just could not rush and end up risking the quality! The fan art and the amazing support we’ve received while working on this game has really uplifted our spirits and helped create something better than we would have been able to otherwise. You guys are awesome — thank you very much!!!!!

We are STILL MAKING UPDATES to this devblog! We will still be showing characters, animal orbs, videos, weapons, and other updates as usual, so don’t think we’re wrapping this up!

-dan

3 new screenshots too @ http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/

Aces of the Galaxy looks interesting. I kinda got a StarFox vibe from seeing that short clip. It is also about time someone made a golf game for XBLA. It will be interesting to see how these two games shape up in the future.
