Clicked on an ad on your site about buying Jazz 2 for PC for 5 Pounds. If it's being sold for PC (for Vista and XP)...thus the assembly code is running on some emulation, and thus it should be possible on the 360. I mean, I played that game with a keyboard when I was younger...it would be perfect with a gamepad obviously.
Jazz 2 ran natively on Win 95, so it can be run in compatibility mode in XP/Vista. It's Jazz 1 that has the assembly issues, as it was DOS only (I think). I agree that they'd both be awesome on XBLA, though.

I thought of a possible solution to the whole de-listing thing. MS should add a Gametap like service to XBLA. People would pay a flat fee per month for access to the full versions of these low rated games, including some of the higher rated but older games as well. If they decide not to pay the next month, the games they downloaded revert to demos, but they keep any achievements they've earned.
That wouldn't address the "problem" that Microsoft is trying to solve, though. They want the trash games gone, or at least hidden from the average user. A subscription service would only draw more attention to them.

Uno has to be the best seller of all-time. Amazing how it just continues to sell and sell.
It's cheaper than the actual card game, so I'm sure that helps. I think MS is becoming aware of how important branding and word of mouth are to XBLA. Game sales are almost viral.

I could see myself picking up Aces, especially if we don't get Schizoid, Braid, or Castle Crashers for awhile, but I didn't quite see the appeal of Roo Goo. So far it seems like a solid but unremarkable puzzle game. I wanted to like it, but it's not going to pull me away from Zuma, Puzzle Fighter, Lumines, or Poker Smash.

Roogoo is awesome. The trial wasn't really that great at showing off the game, it was mostly the early stages which are very similar and really easy. The full game is a lot better IMO.

It's been doing great review-wise too:
1UP - A
Eurogamer - 8/10
IGN - 8.5/10
OXM - 8/10
TXB - 8.5/10

I hope it sells well, this is really an awesome game that appears to be getting overlooked :(

Brute!

There have been some requests to post some action shots of the characters as they are revealed. For the time being I am going to start adding screenshots of each characters while they are in battle, and as time permits I’ll try to get some video up too. In the meantime here is our latest unlockable character that we’ve been referring to as the Brute.

I’m not sure why he is riding a deer in this picture, but the image just made me laugh so I went with it. In addition here are some action shots with the Brute while in our Arena mode.

Thanks!

Castle Crashers also looks fucking awesome. Have they announced or hinted at a price yet?

Wolf of the Battlefield TM: Commando 3 and Frogger 2 to Launch on Xbox LIVE Arcade This Wednesday!

One of the most popular arcade shooter series of the 80s returns and gamers get a fresh take on a classic arcade game when “Wolf of the Battlefield™: Commando 3” and “Frogger® 2” launch on Xbox LIVE Arcade this Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. GMT (1:00 a.m. PDT).

As the spiritual successor to the Commando and Mercs classic shooter series, Wolf of the Battlefield™: Commando 3 brings some serious nonstop blasting action to the digital download space befitting the games renowned lineage. Players will assume the role of a rag-tag group of specialized soldiers, each with their own unique characteristics, who take on General Ratiev, a tyrannical despot pent on global shenanigans. Thankfully, players won’t be alone on this seemingly impossible mission; up to three players can enjoy the classic arcade-style shooter simultaneously on a single console or online. Wolf of the Battlefield™: Commando 3 also compensates for the co-op multiplayer mode by dynamically shifting difficulty levels based on the number of players in the game, ensuring that the game always poses a challenge.

With a soundtrack created by Norihiko Hibino, famous for his work on the Metal Gear soundtrack, a wide arsenal of devastating weapons, controllable co-op vehicles, 4 default levels of difficulty, and a comprehensive scoring system and online leaderboards, Wolf of the Battlefield™: Commando 3 is guaranteed to bring more action than you can sink your teeth into.

Developed by Backbone Entertainment and published by Capcom, “Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3” will be available worldwide (with the exception of Japan and Korea) for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.

With the purchase of “Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3,” Xbox 360 owners will be automatically eligible to participate in an exclusive beta test to help improve the online version of “Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.” Participants in the beta will be able to submit bug reports and suggestions through beta.capcom.com and help make the final release version even better! The Beta version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be available to all “Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3” purchasers on June 25.

“Frogger 2” expands on the arcade classic with more than 15 challenging levels that feature new enemies and obstacles. Hop through five exotic environments that provide a fresh set of challenges and bosses that will attempt to thwart players’ progress. Play alone or invite up to four friends to compete over Xbox LIVE with two new online multiplayer modes including Race Mode, where friends race to finish levels the fastest, and Jewel Duel, where players must hang on to a jewel while other players try to steal it away.

Developed by Voltex, “Frogger 2” will be available worldwide for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.

XBLAH is no more! There is only GamerBytes!

That's right! XBLAH is evolving into GamerBytes! Not only are we now dealing with Xbox Live Arcade, but Playstation Network and Wiiware games as well!

Think Services has announced the launch of GamerBytes, a new weblog specifically providing information, interviews and analysis for digital downloaded console games - from Xbox Live Arcade through PlayStation Network to WiiWare.

Why? With the swift rise of digital downloaded content for the major consoles, there's a major hole in centrally located information for shortplay, innovative independently-developed titles - such as Penny Arcade Adventures, N+ and LostWinds. GamerBytes plans to offer daily updated news on the state of gaming for the three major console services - each of which has its own section on the site.

Editor Ryan Langley has folded his popular XBLAH.net site into GamerBytes, and will now collate breaking news, rating information, low-profile publicity on all three consoles. He will also ramp up the exclusive content - such as his recent quizzing of XBLA developers on the delisting changes.

GamerBytes will also include the latest jobs from the market-leading Gamasutra Jobs network, with a site-specific feed available soon, and will cross-pollinate information with relevant sister sites such as Think Services' IndieGames.com blog, as well as related events such as the Independent Games Summit at GDC.

The GamerBytes site is now officially open, and there's a full-feed RSS available for those interested in subscribing to the news feed.

They've hinted that it should be around the same price as Alien Hominid (800 pts).

Congrats on the upgrade Rlan. Though I only own a 360 and am particularly interested in XBLA, I agree that there is a hole out there in the coverage of DL content.

Someone posted a thread earlier about how to start a gaming site. Many of the replies were about finding a niche and running with it. That guy needs to check out what you've done and study up!

Congrats for still being a site that's not blocked here at work! I could care less about the other services, but you have the best coverage when it comes to the XBLA.

Definitely will! I appreciate the PSN content, and the WiiWare content (though I don't have a Wii yet) is up my alley. If you enjoy XBLA games, you'll pretty much appreciate the rest of these services.

I'll be completely honest though, I loved the look of XBlah! (and the name too). Not a fan of the new look...but the site is completely functional and seems to have all the old article from XBlah! there...so don't put too much weight into my personal preference.

I forgot that you made those Sonic sites...I've been a fan of yours for years now, heheh.

Hopefully the forcus on VC and PSN won't affect the XBLA coverage. XBLAH was one of my favorite sites. I checked XBLAH often along with XBLArcade.

Congrats on the Evolution Rlan your bookmarked as always, looks like I have some reading to do. Whats next? a podcast? (please)

PS: just reading GamesTM today and they have California Games and Impossible Mission in there retro downloads section under XBLA to check out this month.

Also a nice interview with the Lost Winds guys about WiiWare/PSN/XBLA it pretty much boiled down to him saying XBLA is too messy and full of shat.

Picked up Roogoo & Aces (prop Comandoo 3 tomoz) anyone up for Co-op/multi let me know.

far far too many puzzle titles likely played a huge role in Roogoo having a really terrible opening week. The genre on XBLA isn't massively popular to start with, and we have seen a slew of puzzle titles this year. Hopefully it will find a better result on other platforms.

The truth hurts. I love my 360 (and XBLA) very much. The core audience for the system? Not so much.
There have been lots of colorful games that sold well on 360, but you dont see that because mostly all your posts in 360 threads have been negative.

Anyone tried Frogger 2 yet? Impressions?

Plays pretty good, much like the DS games. Sound is terrible. God awful terrible. Also, presented in a vertical arcade aspect with no other display options. Based on the bit of time I've put into it I'd say 6/10.

But Japan doesn't like the Xbox brand. So to MS, Japan doesn't matter and I agree 100% with them.
1. If a game is published by MS, it must come out globally. If you are a 3rd party and ask MS to publish the game on XBLA, you abide by this rule also.
2. The game is not published by MS, it is published by South Peak.
3. There are already RooGoo picture packs on Japan Marketplace, including some translated text for the names.

So I have no idea wtf they are thinking. Perhaps they just didn't bother to finish translating the game. I'm surprised these devs don't try a bit harder - I mean even N+ was translated into Japanese, even though it's got one of the worst google translations ever.

I'm guessing Commando 3 will have a demo on XBLA? The PSN release didn't have one (although the other Capcom PSN games did) and it pissed me off as demo-less games usually do. I'll probably pick up the XBL release if the demo is there, I don't want to reward bad behavior.

As for Roogoo, I tried the demo and it just didn't click with me. Puzzle games have to "click" to be fun to play and this one didn't. Just seemed kinda boring to me and the mechanics were "meh". Had absolutely nothing to do with how "colorful" the game was. Heck, Uno, Aces, etc. are all very colorful games but they sold fine. Halo is probably the most colorful FPS series out there.

It should, Microsoft requires all XBLA games to have a demo.

Razorworks to close

Ed Fear Today, 12:40pm

Empire Interactive's last internal studio on the way out, say insiders; studio confirms closure

Develop has received word that Razorworks, the last internal development house of publisher Empire Interactive, is set to shut its doors - or be sold - in the coming days.

According to our sources, all of the studio's 30 staff were informed yesterday of the decision by Empire management, which has been taken due to company financials. The Kidlington, Oxfordshire-based developer had previously worked on Xbox Live Arcade versions of Speedball 2 and Double Dragon, and had also worked on Ford Racing Off Road.
