Well, this is probably my fault. Ironically enough I'll probably have to wait until Wednesday or Thursday to buy it now.

Heh. I'm not sure what you mean, Ben. We're all waiting until Wednesday.

Yes. They also said CC wasnt going to be 22 bucks either. So we will see

anyways just one release this week?

Seriously. Dont do this to me Microsoft!

I mean, ok, maybe i'll buy it anyway, but... it seems 1.200 is going to be the new "default price", just like 800 was.
You're divining that from one release?

Even considering that the next two releases afterwards will be 800?

What, only good things worth getting be Braid and CC. I only have 800, and wanted this game, but looks like I have to take a pass I do.

Ya, I have 870 points, and I don't feel like buying any more, so I'll have to pass. Probably end up getting the PC version. Might get Galaga, but I'll probably end up just having the points rot until something awesome comes along.

Galaga better be 400 to bring balance to the force. Pacman CE was should be shamed for starting this overpricing nonsense. To be honest, Geometry Wars 2 and N+ both felt dirty for 800 too.

Also Lumines started at 1200 too didn't it? That thing sold gangbusters iirc.

Excuse me? Bionic Commando and Galaga Legions aren't going to be good? Under what authority do you say that?

I felt like I got excellent deals on all of these, they're amazing games well worth the asking price, if not more. Certainly they all provided more bang for your buck than any given $20 Popcap game on Steam, more than nearly any $20-30 budget release on any console. The sense of entitlement people have towards XBLA pricing is insane.

This is part of the reason I wish there were more previews/reviews of XBLA titles before the release.

People are stating Braid is too much now at 1200 tho they have no idea how much content is in it, yet alone have played the game.

I know past experiences with XBLA titles sets a perceived play length and feature set for releases and I'm with you on the cheaper the better guys but come on.

PS: I would also love to see more data on xbla sales per price point, Bionic Commando selling at 800 should speak volumes if it does better than it should.

Under the authority that the games feel very generic. There is already 50 stick shooters that are average at best. Also, I just think the game would be amazing at 800. Some of you seem to be made of money. See, the way things are going, any good game will cost 1200, then 1600, then the prices will just continue to rise. We just think that a game tied to your account should cost about $10, so you get 2 for one $20 card. Not that hard of a concept to grasp.

We will see. The average cost of XBLA games is indeed going up..

Per quarter:

pub

It's risen from roughly just under $8.00 (700 MSP) to $10.00 (800 MSP between Q2, 2007, and Q2, 2008. Very few games are in the $5 range anymore, as developers are focusing more on new content, and $10 HD-remakes than the simple $5 ports.

Having said this, the charts aren't factoring in XBLA Hits, and their $5 lower pricetags...Just new games that launch at a given price.

I have a bad feeling that Castle Crashers will be $20 to help with how much developement time theyve gone through. Fuck! Braid being 1,200 pretty much confirms a high price for CC.

Shit, gawd fuck. I'm not buying it at that price.

I just bought the Puzzle Quest DLC at 700pts. Why is everything so freakin`expensive on Live lately!?

What the fuck are you talking about? One 1200 points game and you're having a freaking meltdown?

If you don't like it, don't buy it.

You wouldn't get something like Braid for cheaper than $15 anywhere else. For some reason people seem to have it in their head that XBLA is the home of cheap games. You people have been spoiled, and it's time to cough up some real money. If you want all of these independently developed games that everyone was crying for 2 years ago, then you're going to have to start putting your hand in your wallet. They ain't gonna pay for themselves.

Funny really... you bought a crappy expansion (I love PQ but the expansion is NOT worth the money) for a chunk over half of what a completely new game costs. :lol

It is too much, sorry boys.

edit:
Psychotext said:
...and come to think of it borsdy, unless you bought Puzzle Quest very recently you would have paid the same for that too (1200 points).
i waited till the price reduction to buy it, i guess i am doing the same for braid

why? lumines is awesome. (if you already own it for psp or ps2, then dont buy it)
didnt they drop the price to 800p?

I've played Lumines Live! for nearly 90 hours. I've spent who knows how much on every single DLC from the moment it came out.

Get it. Truly one of the best games on XBLA.

The XBLA version is vastly superior to the PSP/PS2 versions, although those are nice for their own reasons.

Same (although I'm at about the 70-hour mark). Wish they'd come out with more skin packs like the surprising and awesome Holiday pack, but it looks like they've moved on. Still, great value.

"Braid is an ingenious and startlingly creative puzzle game, built with an understanding of good game design that even some of the industry's most revered figures could learn from."

PC Gamer Magazine (UK)

"It's the most original and fresh platform game I've played in at least ten years, and almost every single puzzle in it will make you grin with happiness and clap with appreciation at the cleverness of it."

Graham Goring, The Arsecast

"Braid has the potential to change the way you think about reality. It will certainly change the way you think about video games."

Jason Roher, Arthouse Games

"Beyond Braid's enchanting hand-painted visual style, beyond its often haunting score, and beyond its musings on love and personal growth... Braid is one of the most progressive platform/puzzle games we've played in years."

Cam Shea, IGN Australia

"Braid's artistic design is as imaginative as its puzzles. The whimsical world looks like a painting come to life."

Hilary Goldstein, IGN

"Braid is a risky experiment climaxing in glorious success. Ask yourself when last you felt a sense of reward and achievement playing a game; not Achievement with a capital 'A' and ten Microsoft points, but an actual sense of pride... And when did a game really make you look at the world differently?"

Xbox World 360 Magazine

"I love this game.... I feel like I'm using parts of my brain that have never been used before, like parts that haven't evolved yet."

Frank Lantz

"One of the most interesting, satisfying, beautiful game experiences I've ever had."

Reverend Anthony, Destructoid

"We're not used to being able to manipulate time in the ways that Braid allows you to... You can sit staring at it for hours, feeling entirely clueless as to how the next jigsaw piece could even be possible to reach. But with a bit of patience, everything just clicks, and you can't help but smile to yourself at how elegantly simple the whole thing is. It was never difficult at all - you just weren't thinking in the right way. That's videogaming Zen.

Sean Bell, DarkZero

"Braid remains a beautiful and brilliantly demanding game that barely contains its dense population of ideas, taking its place alongside Geometry Wars and Pac-Man Championship Edition as one of the finest original titles available on Live Arcade."

Edge

"The end level is fucking ingenious."

So not worth the extra five dollars.

We have grown accustomed to the $10 price point. If XBLA had more varied pricing from the beginning, there wouldn't be as much bitching.

What the fuck? Lots of good games come out at $10. It might be great, but at $15? Some of you guys would make this game $20 if it were up to you, when it should be $10. Things in general are overpriced. 10 hours, $10. Not that difficult. Don't give me the "Some games are only 5 hours and cost $60." Most games not only have multiplayer, but are in HD and shit. I don't know man.

I only have 800 points left and was looking on spending it on this game. Now it looks like I have to buy ANOTHER $20 card, and then have 1200 hanging in my account, and I will have to spend even more money for Castle Crashers. See how inconvenient this is? Make a game 800, and it evens out.

:lol Oh god. That's thick. Stop trying to win a writing award and tell us if the game was good or not, in plain English.

The thing is, there is a wide and flexible gulf between $10 and $60 and I personally don't have a problem with games exercising their right to be judged on merit in that space.

Also, Zune.com would let you buy exactly only the amount of points you need for the game in 400 MP increments, unless you don't want to use a debit card or whatever.

Coming back from the Virtual Console thread I've realized that while I can't say I agree 100% with Braid being $15 the fact remains that unlike NoA, MS actually gives a shit about their DD service so what the hell I'll buy it.

The gap between $10 and $15 is not so wide. And an extra 1200 points can be spent in a myriad of ways, many of them delicious.

Also, Zune.com erases that worry nicely anyway, if you don't mind using a debit card or whatever. I just found this out.

Just judging from previews, $15 seems like a fair price for Braid. Hopefully for the developers the demo is good, as it's obvious that $10 is the sweet spot for XBLA games.

Time to give you guys a little perspective. I posted this in the Castle Crashers' price thread and the same holds true for Braid as well. And all original XBLA games are in HD, and some have MP.

Patapon (PSP): Worth $20.

Some random match-three game (PC): Worth $20.

Castle Crashers (XBLA): Not worth $20??

It's crazy that you complain about the price of something you get to keep forever that may cost $15-$20, then turn around and spend $15-$20 on a pizza, a movie for two, sushi, a haircut, a steak, or anything that will be gone in the next few hours/days. Yet a game that's yours forever, isn't worth $20?

Wow.

The amount of bitching over $5 is hilarious!

Also, there are demos of every game available. Give it a shot. If you try it and like it, then maybe you'll pony up the 1200 space bucks. Otherwise, you can just miss out on the timebending fun!

It is a bit of a gamble at that price ($15). What was that robot game using UE3? I don't think that one was too successful, but Lumines and Billiards were.

It's been a long time since I've played a new, interesting, well-crafted, innovative 2D platformer, so I'm very much looking forward to Braid.
The asking price seems like a bit of a bargain IMO.

I think you just killed your own argument with this oversight. If CC were released on a disc (which is TRULY yours forever), I highly doubt there would be this backlash.
