That's too bad about GL, but I have to say something about it just doesn't look/seem right. It doesn't seem to be the PMCE-style remake I've been hoping for. Will reserve judgment for the demo, though.

They only put up the trial versions on partnernet? That makes no sense at all.

It's been nearly a year since I dicked around on Partnernet, but...yes, they put up trial versions, because you need to be able to test it in both trial mode and purchased mode.

However, my understanding is that points can be added for free to any Partnernet account so that you can unlock the full versions...

I hope the Galaga impressions are just very opinionated (those guys tend to be pretty extreme on the shmups forum so I still have hope). I was really hoping for the Summer of Xbox Live Arcade to be five for five.

Right, found a few details on the upcoming South Park XBLA Game

This week Microsoft let us in on a well-kept secret: Xbox LIVE Productions, a brand new first-party production studio focused on download games and videos exclusively for Xbox LIVE members. The first project is being readied for launch next year, a fun-filled and hilarious strategy game based on television’s notorious “South Park”. Xbox LIVE features are integral to the experience, including multiplayer and LIVE Party Chat support. As a sign of things to come we’re off to a very good start!

Odd, I thought DoubleSix were developing it. Also, suprising that videos are part of their mandate.

From Gamerbytes:

New Details On Mysterious Konami 'Beat'n Groovy' Game

Bemanistyle.com, a website dedicated to all things Beatmania and all music games, has gotten a hold of some new information about Konami’s secret XBLA title Beat’n Groovy.

According to their source, the game is essentially a Pop’n Music game for the western market. It will feature a similar bright and colorful style of the Pop’n games, but does not appear to feature the characters from that series.

The game will feature 3 modes – Arcade, Versus and Endless. The anonymous source also claims that there are at least 9 songs in the game including “Moon by DJ Taka, 100 sec. Kitchen Battle, Beyond the Earth” and many others. Whether there are more to unlock later down the line is unknown, as they have yet to complete all the songs.

Finally, the game is actually made to be used with the controller, and not some pad. Difficulty can be expanded on based on either 3 button or 5 button game styles, so it’s a little like Boom Boom Rocket or Go! Go! Break Steady sans the puzzle part of the game.

Check out more information over at Bemanistyle.com

Probably a co-development sort of thing Xbox LIVE Productions does the producing and DoubleSix does the coding.

Anyway, this week's XBLA Top Ten.

Top Arcade Titles (Full Versions)
1 Braid
2 Geometry Wars Evolved²
3 1942: Joint Strike
4 UNO
5 SOULCALIBUR

Well on Galaga...guess you cant win em all.

4 amazing games outta 5 still isnt bad
There is NO WAY Castle Crashers will be bad
.

Actually I wouldn't trust ANYTHING that blog says, since it states "Also from 16 July onwards the evergreen Puzzle Quest will be available for the new low price of 400MS points." which is bullshit.

The full game has massive, quickly changing patterns and boss encounters. I didn't play it from the start, but I think GL is much better than those impressions imply. It's no doubt more of a puzzle game than a shooter though.

Anyone else think MS will/should do another round of price drops on some XBLA titles later this fall? Tons of people are buying spacebucks right now and many are bound to have 400 left over waiting for an impulse buy.

How many times have they done price drops? Two rounds now?

Yeah, they're in sharp contrast to what we've heard about the game from other people.
The demo could suck and be too easy. The full game was at E3 (seemed finished), and by the time I got to it other players had advanced it pretty far. You have a few seconds breathing space as it draws in the wave outlines, then the waves themselves fill the screen up. Kill quick and you'll have more breathing room for the next wave, play sloppy and prepare to be overwhelmed. The boss I faced also required some pretty quick adjustments.

I think in the case of both Braid and Castle Crashers, the prices are justified for what's on offer. But after one, I don't think I can personally justify the other.

Is it worth DLing pub games if you don't plan on playing Fable II?

I'm totally addicted to the card game only in pub games.
If you could play that online, it might be worth it.

Duke Nukem 3D Coming to Xbox Live Arcade
By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar"

3D Realms officially announced today Duke Nukem 3D for Xbox Live Arcade.

We're very pleased to announce that "Duke Nukem 3D for Xbox LIVE Arcade" will be coming to your Xbox 360 console soon!

As has been reported around the net today, we can confirm that the game has indeed passed final certification with Microsoft on Friday the 15th of August (on our first try, no less). That means the game is done - it is now in the hands of Microsoft. At this time we cannot give you details on release date or points cost, as we do not have that information. There's plenty of really cool stuff in this new update to a classic title. While we're not quite ready to divulge everything yet, we can tell you this.

Set sometime in the early 21st century, Duke Nukem 3D begins in a ravaged LA, which was overtaken by aliens. Duke, upon returning to Earth, finds himself with another mess to clean up, and another alien race that needs exterminating. Duke is a can-do hero who realizes that sometimes innocent people have to die in order to save Earth, so accuracy of gun fire is not a real concern to him.

Things on Wheels Achievements
Nothing too demanding, providing you can read.
by Nate Ahearn

August 18, 2008 -

Things on Wheels presents 1-4 players with a non-linear track design to its brand of arcade racing. Stages are set in a large art deco mansion as gamers race around in RC cars ranging from muscle cars to the sport class. You'll need to avoid a host of objects and hazards that are fitting for the locale. Southpeak Interactive (the game's publisher) just recently took the wrappong off of the game's 12 achievements and we're here to show them off to you for the first time.

Things on Wheels Achievements

ToW Go Finish any race, any place, any rule. Yep, pretty much a given achievement! 5

War World is still alive apparently.

XBLA: 'War World' Still Coming To Xbox Live Arcade
War-World-1.jpg

French achievements website Succès Full have updated their achievement lists with a brand new set - for long time coming game War World.

Previously the game had some achievements released beforehand, via X360A, however the list was early, and mentioned 15 achievements with 243 Gamerscore instead of the normal 12 achievements with 200 Gamerscore. They also did not find images to go along with each achievement, while Succès Full do.

A few months ago I was also able to contact Third Wave Games, the developers for the game to see if it was still in production. They replied swiftly:

"Yeah War World has been a bit delayed. It is really tough squeezing so much graphics into the 150MB limit we have. Everything in the game is fully normal mapped and looks as good as a retail game so it has been a struggle to get it all squeezed in. But we did it. It is now up to Microsoft and Ubisoft exactly when it will be released."

So the game is actually complete - it's now up to Ubisoft to actually release it. It was slated for release last August. Maybe one day it will get out of limbo.

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/17353/Pre-Order-Nuts-Bolts-Get-BanjoKazooie-for-XBLA-Free/

Microsoft announced that “Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts” is hitting U.S. store shelves on November 14, with pre-orders beginning today. Those who pre-order the game will receive a free download code for the original “Banjo-Kazooie,” launching on Xbox Live Arcade later this fall.

Since the original Banjo-Kazooie will launch a couple of weeks after Nuts & Bolts, those who pre-order the game will get a two-week head start on the Xbox Live Arcade title, plus the opportunity to take advantage of “Stop N’ Swop” before anyone else. “Stop N’ Swop” rewards players’ accomplishments in the new game with extra content and features in the Xbox LIVE Arcade game, giving fans who pre-order “Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts” the chance to experience more Banjo action than ever.

I was reminded about this after listening to 1UP FM, but any news on the N+ map sharing?

even the DS & PSP versions have it done nicely. :(

They haven't even addressed the save bug (or "feature," whatever they called it).

I'm STILL missing the 10 Co-Op Level achievement because of that.

I ran into the save bug recently after I got level pack 1. I hadn't played N+ in a few months and was sad to see my single player progress erased. A friend and I proceeded to play through 5 chapters of the coop pack and the next day when we were going to finish our progress was gone for both of us.

We then played through the single player DLC levels together, only to be immediately taunted about the save bug. :(

You're apparently supposed to back out of all the menus and get to the main N+ menu before exiting the game to ensure it saves but that hasn't been the case for me, at last on co-op, I never had any saving problems in the single player portion (though I haven't bought the level packs yet). We're planning to tackle all ten in one night to get it out of the way since I doubt they'll patch it at this point.

RocketBowl Rolling Toward XBLA
D3 takes the bumpers off for its new downloadable bowling game.
by Ryan Geddes

August 19, 2008 - Bowling is fun, but it has one major drawback: In order to bowl, you have to visit a bowling alley. The beer is terrible, most of the patrons are missing teeth and everyone is constantly taking their shoes on and off. That's what videogames were invented for.

D3 Publisher and 21-6 Productions have teamed up to bring RocketBowl to Xbox Live Arcade so you never have to leave your house -- but this ain't your Uncle Jerry's tenpins. RocketBowl mixes a 1950s aesthetic with a "retro-futuristic vibe" for a wilder bowling experience than you're likely to find even at the local midnight bowl.

In the future bowling balls will, in all likelihood, be powered by rockets, and RocketBowl takes full advantage of that technology. Rocket-powered balls can boost, jump and turn in mid-air to help players knock down the pins in the 10 courses available in the game. In addition to a traditional bowling alley, RocketBowl features 9 zany courses filled with ramps, tunnels, loops, hills, curves and more.

RocketBowl was developed by Large Animal Games as a downloadable Web game and is being ported to Xbox Live Arcade by 21-6, which has also worked on Web games.

In the single-player mode, bowlers can either hop from course to course in Free Play mode or challenge AI pros in Tournament and Challenge modes. In those modes, you can wager on your performance to win money and upgrade your equipment. Need a new ball? There are more than 15 to choose from, including the Strawbally, 8-Ball, the Jupiter 5000 and the Kalamazoo Special.

But bowling alone is generally not preferred, so Rocket Bowl includes a multiplayer mode that allows up to four players to compete either locally or over Xbox Live. RocketBowl is set for a September release and will cost 800 MSP ($10).

You can thank the MS cert requirements for that one.

Bullshit. No other game has this problem.

They can blame it on MS all they want, it's a lame excuse. Their reasoning is that they're only allowed to save every five minutes. That's the MS cert requirement reason. So how come after two hours of playing co-op, two hours, not five minutes, after we've exited the menus and saw the "Saving Game" dialogue, NONE of the progress actually saved. And this has happened to us in co-op THREE TIMES.

This week's XBLA top ten:

1 BC:Rearmed
2 Fable II Pub Games
3 Braid
4 Geometry Wars Evolved²
5 UNO
6 1942: Joint Strike
7 DOOM
8 SOULCALIBUR
9 N+
10 Worms

I played Galaga Legions pretty quickly this morning. I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. Too bad I don't have time to play it for another week because I'm going away on vacation in a few minutes.

I love the vintage graphics option. I guess that was made for the nostalgic people like me. The shooting is pretty cool. They have an option where you can just leave it on autoshoot so you don't have to bruise your thumbs. Using the right joystick you can leave 2 shooters behind that can up, down, left, and right. This helps in situations where bad guys are coming in from the sides.

How come BC Rearmed is the top arcade title, but yet Fable 2 Pub Games gets into the Overall Top 10?

Is it because more people played the trial game than bought the full version?
