Official Xbox Live Arcade Thread

I have enough pride not to start a new thread and get blasted with hatorade, but..

I've got a gold card in the mail and my membership has lapsed to silver, but since I have the day off I'd *really* like Live for just a day.

Does anyone have an extra 48 hour gold code they can spare to PM me? I'd really, really, really appreciate it.

Tis the Season to Be Jolly: 2008 a Stellar Year for Xbox LIVE Arcade

Oh the weather outside is frightful – so grab a cup of cocoa and enjoy this year’s biggest hits on Xbox LIVE Arcade. Gamers and critics agree that 2008 was a stellar year for Xbox LIVE Arcade, which saw record numbers and the most impressive line-up of titles ever.

Santa’s making a list and checking it twice – he knows that Xbox LIVE Arcade is home to the best pick-up-and-play downloadable games available and some of the year’s best titles. In fact, the games have been so good that people have earned more than 1.25 billion (yes, that’s billion with a “b”) Gamerscore and unlocked nearly 100 million Achievements in Xbox LIVE Arcade titles to date.

The Xbox LIVE team launched some of the highest rated titles this year, with more than 60 games scoring an industry-leading metacritic rating of over 75.

“Braid,” beat out big-budget blockbuster retail titles and was named the #2 video game of the year by TIME, “Best Independent Game” of the year by G4TV, and #5 game of the year by Associated Press. Developed by Number None, Inc. and published by Microsoft Game Studios, “Braid” is the No. 1 highest-rated game of all time on Xbox LIVE Arcade, and continues to be one of the top Xbox 360 games available. It even had the highest metacritic rating of any downloadable game this year with an astounding 93 (which was on-par with retail titles like critically acclaimed “Gears of War 2” and “Fallout 3”).

Gamers’ wish lists may also include this year’s favorites, “Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2” (90), “Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix” (89), and “Portal: Still Alive” (89). Last month, Bizarre Creations announced that there are now more than one million combined leader board entries for Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 1 & 2 – that’s a lot of people! Crowd pleaser “Castle Crashers” is also an indisputable favorite and was chosen as Wired Game|Life’s #3 Xbox 360 game of 2008 alongside blockbuster titles “Gears of War 2” and “Fable II.”

We know gamers have been enticed by this impressive line-up – 110 million trial games have been downloaded on Xbox LIVE Arcade to date.

“Momentum for Xbox LIVE Arcade has been incredible this year,” director of digitally distributed games for Microsoft Scott Austin, said. “Xbox LIVE Arcade has really become the top destination for premium downloadable games. And we’ve got a long list of games coming out in 2009 that we think will be just as incredible as what we already have on the service.”

While these new records ring in a winter wonderland, they come hot on the heels of the scorching Summer of Arcade – the most successful season Xbox LIVE Arcade had ever seen. The summer’s best titles which were released over the course of five weeks including “Bionic Commando: Rearmed,” and “Galaga Legions” led to a 58 percent increase in unique members purchasing titles. August broke the monthly revenue high at the time by 67 percent.

After all the eggnog and holiday pudding is gone, Xbox LIVE Arcade has another blockbuster-packed lineup of games coming out in 2009 – so look out for titles including “Lode Runner,” “The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai,” “South Park,” “Puzzle Quest: Galactrix,” and “R-Type Dimensions” to ring in the new year.

I do wish you could gift games to other people like on the Wii. I've gifted about 3 or 4 games to people on the Wii, basically double dipping on the titles, for people that wouldn't have normally bought them. I don't know why Microsoft hasn't implimented the feature.
Completely agree, would also be good if you could gift small amounts of time on gold as well, like one or two days, so you could play against silver owning friends.

Gunstar Heroes. GUNSTAR HEROES!

They had online coop in Golden Axe and Streets of Rage, so they might have coop for GUNSTAR FREAKING HEROES!

YAY!

Oh shit how did I miss this.

Excellent more Sega Classics. I'd rather get them with some netcode as 5 dollar a piece downloads then as a huge rom dump w/o it (Sonic's Collection disc coming soon).

Phantasy Star II is an odd choice, but I will be getting all of these. Netcode for SOR2 and Golden Axe was good but Gunstar is much more hectic. Hope it turns out good. Comix Zone and Sonic 3 are just classic.

It has to come out before the retail release of PopCap Arcade Hits Vol. 2, which is set for release on March 3rd.

According to Portuguese weblog Rumble Pack and Destructoid, Square Enix are planning to bring their addictive Japanese puzzle game Yosumin to the Xbox Live Arcade, in the form of Yosumin Live

Yosumin originally started as a browser based puzzle game at Square Enix's @nifty website. While it may look like Bejeweled, instead of moving two two icons at a time to make a line of three or more, you must find a square or rectangular shape within the board which has the same icon at all four corners - the bigger the better.

Technically, this is not Square Enix's first foray onto Xbox Live Arcade - they have previously announced Arkanoid Live in conjunction with their wholly owned Taito division, which is working with Backbone Entertainment to bring Space Invaders Extreme to XBLA as well.

All I want is:

Bubble Symphony, Darius Gaiden, Elevator Action Returns, and Cadash(4 player co-op version)

Okay? Okay.

Both that and Arkanoid were announced with a 'Winter' release at TGS, but who knows. Microsoft hold stuff back all the time.

Hey xbla freaks, you might be able to help me find what I'm looking for;

Some months ago I tried a demo of a game which looked like a mix between Geometry Wars and Ikaruga. You can only touch the enemies when in the same color (or something), and it supports 2 players coop.

I searched the marketplace but didn't find it.

Hate to use GAF for tech support, but thought I'd ask.

So I saw the promotion running for gold membership and a free XBLA game (or Halo/Crackdown DLC).

I chose the N+ gamerpic, then renewed my subscription...

BUT! I had forgot that I had a video in the queue ahead of the pic. Does this mean I'm screwed out of N+?

XBLA: Tilted Mill Planning On Xbox Live Arcade Title

tiltedlogo.gifIt appears that another PC game developer has decided to jump onto the Xbox Live Arcade train, and going by their previous endeavors, it may be one to look out for.

In a recent interview on GameSetWatch with Tilted Mill President Chris Beatrice, the question of downloadable console titles came up, and Mr. Beatrice explained that they "do have some Xbox Live Arcade plans in the works".

Tilted Mill is the developer of SimCity Societies for EA, as well as many quality independent town building and resource management sim games such as Hinterland and Mosby's Confederacy, for the PC. The staff is largely made up of developers from Impressions Games, who made the popular Caesar series in the late nineties.

Whether their project is similar to their previous projects, but made for a more casual audience (much like NinjaBee's A Kingdom for Keflings), or whether they are using this opportunity to stretch out into other genres is currently unknown. Either way, good luck to them.
