I find it a bigger insult that we are being fed something like Interpol when a year ago we saw the likes of Metal Slug 3 being released.

Anyway, more news:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/capcom-fills-in-the-first-6-months-of-its-release-calendar

Capcom has announced a few definitive dates for early 2009 releases, putting seven titles on the horological map for the start of the year.

Alien-based sheep-herding puzzler Flock! is coming in February, and will hit PC, PSN and XBLA all at once.

Errr...no.

You get presented with a screen and a list of objects to find in it which have been hidden in the artwork with varying degrees of obfuscation, so a spider will range from a giant tarantula to a wood-coloured leg mostly hidden behind a clown or something like that. Find all the objects in the time limit to move on to the next level.

Virtually every PC casual game that isn't a Diner Dash clone, a Match 3 puzzle or Zuma is a hidden object game. Most try to vary the formula a little with puzzles and mini games (like the Mystery Case Files series) but I think I played a little bit of the PC version of Interpol and it was fairly vanilla.

There's a screenshot from the PC version of Interpol here (I don't know what Gamezebo's linking policy is) which should explain the above a bit more clearly. There are some spot-the-difference mini game interludes that I'd forgotten about it seems.

DOOM however, still going strong. A completely missed opportunity to release the sequel as well as Quake and Quake II. Now that ID Software are now with EA it will be interesting to see if they ever make it out.

I'm confused, does EA mean those games are more or less likely to come to XBLA?

How many EA games on XBLA?

Boom Boom Rocket... and...? :-/
Wing Commander.

Besides: id Software "really" isn't with EA, sort of. id became one of the many EA Partners once they announced that Electronic Arts would publish RAGE, so I doubt they'll have any say in id's future Xbox Live Arcade endeavours (if they actually want to release another XBLA port).

True, but Activision did publish the first DOOM on XBLA. EA are doing 3 on 3 Hockey Arcade but don't particularly seem to be into it smaller downloadable titles. Hell, we haven't seen anything from them on the Virtual Console - SimCity was Nintendo. They've done a very few PSOne titles on the PSN but that's about it.

I want a new Desert Strike, or at least a Compilation with all three on XBLA for 800MSP :)

Quake Arena Arcade was coming but got canned in favor of Quake Live in web browsers.

Hasbro Developing Several Board Games, XBLA Channel
Line-up includes Scrabble, Boggle, Battleship, and more.
By Steve Watts, 01/06/2009
Hasbro Hasbro announced today that it is working with Electronic Arts to develop several new board games for various platforms, along with a branded Hasbro game channel for Xbox Live Arcade. The popular board game Scrabble will come first, due out for the DS and PSP this March. The handheld games will include three modes (Classic, Speed, and Scrabble Slam), six difficulty settings, and a Training mode for less experienced wordsmiths. Hasbro and EA have already suggested the price will probably stand at $29.99.

Xbox Live Arcade is getting its own line-up of board games from the company, including Scrabble, Boggle, Battleship, Yahtzee, Connect Four, Sorry!, and Sorry! Sliders coming in spring. In addition, Xbox Live Arcade will be receiving its own "Hasbro Family Game Night channel" to bring the collection together in one place, with new games updated in the space.

The full line-up will be shown off this weekend at the Consumer Electronics Show. Since Electronic Arts acquired the Hasbro license last year, they've been capitalizing on popular classic board games. It's apparently paid off, since we've seen big sales numbers for the casual titles. It makes sense to keep pressing the advantage of nostalgic fun, and the focus on Xbox Live Arcade may help Microsoft finally catch some more casual consumers.

I'm actually really interested to see this "space" on XBL that will house all the games in the Hasbro collection. Sounds really neat and I hope more companies do it.

I don't see the point of waiting for it to hit XBLA. Is there any computer that can't run Peggle? It was even $5 on Steam last week.

What the hell would Valve have to do with it? It's PopCap's game.

The most important feature of an XBLA Peggle would be achievements.

I'd love a "Hit 100,000 pegs" achievement. I'd grind that every night... :(

Interpol is a pretty weak Object-Hunt game.

The best are by SpinTop Games (Published by PopCap, and include the Mystery P.I series and Amazing Adventure series) or Big Fish Games (such as Mstery Case Files - Millionheir recently released on DS).

The resolution of the image was poor, and looked horrendous with the maginfying glass, the vocabulary seems pretty easy and the Xbox 360 controller obviously doesn't work well for a PnC.

I'd avoid it, and just get Mystery Case Files: Millionheir on DS (or a PC one if its too expensive, they're pretty shallow and undemanding).

I came here to post pretty much this. Interpol sucks ass and I quite like object-finding games.

The worst thing Interpol does is try to be "clever." Like I was just in a sports locker room level and one of the words was "club." There were about 10 different types of clubs in there -- all wrong because they're not named simply "club." The club in question was the playing card kind. I mean.... Yeah, that's grammatically correct and all, but it's just fucking stupid.

Another one I had was an asian level where you're supposed to find asian fans. The same level had a plain old plastic-and-aluminum rotating fan as well. This, apparently, it not a "fan." Come on, that's not even remotely clever!

And, yeah, the resolution is pathetic. As you move further in the game, the images actually get more sparse (wasting space on, for example, having a beautiful skyline backdrop with 0 objects in it), but the levels get harder because it's just a blur of browns and greys. And why waste so damn much screen real estate on the UI?!

How does MS keep doing this? Picking one of these games is clearly not a bad idea to attract casuals considering how popular the genre is on the casual PC scene, but why did they have to pick the shitty one? Why couldn't they have hooked up with the Amazing Adventures crew instead? This always happens when MS picks up new genres...

Edit: Got to a new level now... One object is "3 Maps." Yeah, there's two pretty clear subway maps and a big city map as well, so it was pretty easy... But there's also a folded map in the foreground that clearly says LONDON MAP in bold and caps. However, this is apparently not a map!

CES 2009: Doritos Dash of Destruction a Hit
People love free stuff.
by Erik Brudvig

January 7, 2009 - Doritos: Dash of Destruction was downloaded nearly 1 million times from the Xbox Live Arcade in the second half of December. That's right; a free advergame nearly achieved platinum status in just a few weeks. This is according to Microsoft executive Mark Kroese, General Manager of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Advertising Business Group at CES as reported by Crispy Gamer.

Still wait for a really fun arcade style kart racing game that doesn't suck .
So they're buggies and not technically karts, but why didn't you buy GripShift yet? It's exactly what you want and offers even more on top of that.

That is essentially Micro Machines.

I'd love to see Micro Machines and Cannon Fodder on XBLA, but unfortunately Codemasters got their fingers burnt with Sensible Soccer so I doubt we'll ever see another XBLA game from them.

Interpol wouldn't be quite so bad if the damn scene took up the whole screen.

How did they get their fingers burnt? The whole delay and later launch misfire? If so, that sucks. I can't even get the game because it didn't come out in Japan but maybe they'll rectify that now they're getting around to publishing here.

Did the Micro Machines license end up back with the codies then? I know it went to Gremlin/Infogrames for a while, but the original MD games were essential party games whenever I had my friends round.

Holy shit Yosumin Live. Oh jesus.

PS: Does anyone know what the deal with those Dream Car Challenge points is? Do the points themselves expire? I haven't used them yet, but if they do I need to use them asap.

Nah, they hyped SWOS up and marketed the hell out of it here in the UK. Big print and online marketing campaign, but the game sold like shit. Leaderboards are barren and the game still has quite a few bugs. Codemasters said pretty soon after the game came out that they wouldn't be releasing a patch or anything else for the game.

They also had the in-game ads, as well, so I think they really thought it was going to be a big game.

I actually think it had the potential to do as well as something like Worms, there is certainly a huge following for the game, but for some reason it just didn't stick.

But, yeah, all the signs post-release indicate Codemasters have no further plans for digital download stuff, but I'd love them to change their minds.

The problem with SWOS was that it was balls-to-the-wall hard. I maybe won 2 games of what I played. It was incredibly difficult.

The interface was pretty awful too on how you chose a team. Not easy at all.

I'd love a new micro machines because I certainly wouldn't buy a new retail one.
