R-Type would be nice yes, lately I not been interested in any of the XBLA releases like I use to be, dunno why.
Probably because they haven't been good. The highlight of the past couple of months has been a Doritos commercial.

XBLA laid low during Christmas/Q4. They ramped it up with the summer promotion in Q3, and we know they have some decent stuff in the pipeline so hopefully it will ramp up steadily at some point ....

I've been playing a few games that will be coming out later this year and I've been thoroughly been impressed. One is from Sierra and another was on the XBLA already as a trial/demo and removed. Not sure how far they are out from releasing though.

Considering the "summer of arcade" was a pretty big success they'll probably try that again, perhaps on a bigger scale. Release lots of trash the following months, and save all the big titles for release around the same time.

But I'd rrreeeeaaaaaaaaalllyyyyy prefer to have the games released as soon as they're done. They might as well remove the XBLA wednesday schedule as well, the new web marketplace makes it very easy to detect whenever something new is released.

Well, Deathtank had a review so I assume that it's done. Rocket Riot has to be coming out of cert soon. Airburst had a new trailer recently. And Dishwasher sounds like it went beta. Darwinia+ had an 08 release date on the website so it has to be on the horizon. Those all looked like strong titles from the previews and trailers.

Deathtank will probably be up in the matter of a month if I had to bet and Rocket Riot is close to being done too. Dishwasher is also included in the "close to being done phase"... Darwinia+ might be a far ways off.

I don't doubt any of this, but it's Microsoft we're talking about here. We know full well they hold titles to release when they want to.

Meanwhile, THE MAW comes out next week!

Release Date

The Maw is coming on January 21st to Xbox LIVE® Arcade. The game will be localized for a wide range of languages, including English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Traditional Chinese. Pleas for help in any of these languages have all gone ignored by this one-eyed purple beast of the apocalypse, currently measuring the size of a basketball.

Price Point

The Maw will be available for 800 Microsoft Points ($10 USD). "We set out from the very beginning to create the most content-rich and impressive game that we could for ten bucks and 150 megabytes," said CCO and Director Josh Bear. "There are over 900 animations, 1000 sound effects, 25 music tracks, 200 visual effects, and 150 models, making this an incredible value for your $10… in the time that we have left." Bear then wept bitterly.

2GB == 150MB

The Maw will weigh in at a slender 150MB due to the superpowers of Granny 3D and its stupefying 85:1 compression ratio for animation data. Without it, The Maw would require more than 2GB of space, a size more attributable to retail titles. "I don't think we could have done it without Granny," says CTO Frank Wilson. "The simplicity of integrating the technology into our engine, the artist-friendly tools, and the brilliance of their compression algorithms are unbeatable."

Unlockable Free Premium Theme

The Maw will offer the rare opportunity for players to win a free premium theme as an in-game unlockable. The only way to get the theme (and free gamerpics too) is to play The Maw and find them.

Website

www.WhatIsTheMaw.com has officially launched today, featuring additional information about the game, downloadable wallpapers, and more. The site was created by SBS Studios, a web design firm with a focus on the website needs of game development companies.

Cool cool, it went up last week and it's been all right so far. Time to put some time into it for a review to go live when it releases.

I remember seeing some of the impressions for this at some game show or another and was quite impressed... at PAX, I think. Reminded me of Bubba 'n' Stix for some reason.

I'm still waiting for our 2009 Rez HD equivalent... only two weeks to go!

That could be The Maw, the buzz around it in the indie scene has been quite high, it could be even the next Braid.

I will be tossing a few question Twisted Pixel's way about The Maw for a interview before the game comes out, and was wondering does have anyone here have a few questions of their own. I promise to use any of the good ones! :D

Dash of Destruction is shite, why do people give it any form of praise? Interpol is way better, and that's not saying a lot.

Too important to post on GAF for free

Irony!

Haha. No. Dash was actually fun for 15 minutes or so, while the Interpol trial was a boring piece of shit. Hell, I would even have played more Dash if the mp was online. Got an old C64 feeling from that game.

Team Xbox has new Previews for 3 upcoming XBLA Games.

Death Tank

From the article: "Currently, there’s no defined release date for Death Tank, but we’ve gotten word that it’s targeted to hit XBLA in February."

Shard said:
"Microsoft isn’t giving us a release timeframe beyond telling us that it “won’t be releasing anytime soon.""

"CellFactor: Psychokinetic Wars is due to hit XBLA in late February."

The Maw looks interesting, I'll definitely check that out. Hopefully next week Microsoft will be the week they announce 11 titles to be released during the same day: Exit 2, Metal Slug 7, KOF'98, Arkanoid Live, R-Type, Space Invaders Extreme, Flock, Lode Runner, Peggle, The Incredible Machine and Death Tank. That would make me happy.

Well, it is official, no new game this week. Honestly, I think that is better then getting another casual shovelware game.

Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays: No New Game This Week
By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar"

Microsoft announced today it won't publish any Xbox Live Arcade game this week. Luckily, the Behemoth comes to the rescue with the release of the first downloadable content for Castle Crashers. The Castle Crashers: King Pack will be available this Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 9 a.m. GMT (2:00 a.m. PDT), for 160 Microsoft Points. Below is the description for this DLC:

It’s time to revisit your favorite modern medieval magic kingdom and load up on two new kicking characters - the Open Faced Grey Knight and the leader of the fearless knights, The King, a new seal animal orb named Pelter, and three new weapons, including the Gold Sword. Last but not least cast a new spell called the King's Heal which heals not only yourself but your party as well!

I played 3 on 3 NHL Arcade a lot last night with a buddy and it's quite addictive. Sure it's repetitive, but if you are into arcade games like NBA Jam, then you'll find NHL quite fun. Out of the 8 matches I played (up to 20 points) I only lost once. As long as you're always checking your opposition (I always outhit my friend by at least 10-12 hits per game) then you'll get a lot of power-ups.

Lode Runner is... well. Lode Runner.

There'll be a few previews going up next week at one of the publications I work with. Dead Samurai, Lode Runner, Magic: The Gathering, and Puzzle Quest: Galactrix are the games they picked up for preview coverage. I'll provide links to anyone that is interested when they go live.

Personally I'd rather see the shovelware game now instead of later so at least it's out of the way.

Either way this pretty much sucks. Guess I'll play some Taito Legends 2 for my arcade fix.

I'm going to assume it's Team Xbox. At this time last year they did an awful lot of XBLA previews. There is plenty up on Partnernet to choose from too ;)

Lode Runner may be Lode Runner, but for people like me who never played it (or at least, didn't understand it initially) it's a great game. Coop should be fun too.

Well, my copy of Taito Legends 2 is Starforced so I'll be playing some Bionic Commando Rearmed (PC Version) for my arcade fix.

Lode Runner is great if you like that type of game... unfortunately my buddy had never played it before and just sat there confused on what to do. It's not his type of game, but I was hoping to turn him onto the game like he did with Portal: Still Alive.

I like the new Lode Runner more than the new R-Type... but that's just me.

Minesweeper is a foul, foul excuse for a game. Press a button; game over.
If you know how to play you can avoid this completely after a few moves or so. It's incredibly simple but it's a type of logic I really enjoy. Not sure if I'd pay for it, though.
