Needs more mention of the awesome DIsney games made by Capcom and Virgin.

Oh absolutely, but that's for a later date ;P

I just wrote 1,636 words on Mickey and Donald, I aint writing more for a while! :)

Makes me wonder if Lode Runner - which was shown off like a year ago now, will also be 1200 points. That game has a lot of DLC though, so I'm gonna assume 800...

It's interesting that more developers are taking this stance, since the few $15 games on the PlayStation Network have seemingly abandoned it (The Euro version of GTI Club+ was the equivelant of $15US but was $10 in the US, Rocket Cars was $15, now $10, and Jeopardy was $15, now $10)

Funtown mahjong is a great idea. But 800 points for such a poorly presented game?

I would think about it for 400, but even that seems a bit much.

I heard a hot rumor that Death Tank will be $15 as well. The fans will pay it but I hope the price point doesn't kill the online community before it gets a chance to grow.

Rocket Riot and Death Tank are near the top of my must have XBLA game list, but I wish they picked a less crowded month to bring out the big guns. My wallet is already going to be on life support after Dawn of War 2 and Street Fighter IV.

Well I've started up those "What needs to be a digital download?" segments after a long hiatus.

Any feedback would be great :)
Great article. Along with the graphics from the games. I liked it a lot - it's mostly common knowledge to everybody that's been around these days, but it's a great "hey, remember this? Remember how this kicked ass?"

I loved the "Disney hub" idea, with all old 8 and 16 bit Disney games (Genesis Alladin? DuckTales for NES? SOLD!). I don't think it will ever happen tho.

What they should do is a massive disk compilation, with all 8 and 16 bit games. Strike a deal with Sega and Capcom, throw in good emulators, artwork, covers, information, sell it for 40 bucks (yeah, 40, not 30). Hell, add even Lion King to the list, I don't mind.

Genesis AND SNes versions of the games, aswell. Killer deal.

.... and I really should read that site more. It always has nice writting and good information about xbla titles...

800 points would have been great for R-Type.
It's a 5 dollar difference for R-Type! Hell, no, for TWO R-Types! In 3D! What is wrong with you people?

So then MS would probably sell more games for $10 than they do for 800 points.

Or even better, for $9.99. But, yeah, according to that research it seems like it would. Sony gets it. Microsoft, somehow, does not. But maybe space bucks currency offsets real currency? I'd love to see some sales comparisons between PSN and XBLA games though.

Still, the point was that 1200 points vs. 800 points is seen as much more than the 400 points difference it is.

This is an interesting one, an achievement list from the now canceled Goldeneye 007 Remake has allegedly surfaced.

Alleged GoldenEye XBLA achievement list hits the net
Check out the tasks you won’t ever do to get 200 Gamer Points

A couple of days ago, newsblog Destructoid unveiled a list of 12 achievements allegedly designed to be part of the cancelled remake of GoldenEye 007 for the Xbox Live Arcade. They claim that their source, identified only as Mr Chips, even showed them photographs and diagrams of the achievements, yet there is no official way to confirm that they actually belong to GoldenEye. Still, the names certainly refer to the Bond franchise and they amount to a total of 200 Gamer Points just as any other Xbox Live Arcade title. In addition, they are written following the British spelling rules, so chances are that they actually come from somewhere in Twycross.

Not everything is wine and roses, though. Had these achievements made their way to the game, many GoldenEye fans may have felt disappointed with them. Only one of them – Sprinter – looks actually challenging, while all the others should mean no problem to any experienced old-school gamer out there.

* Q-Branch - (10G) Unlock a cheat - beat the target time on any level
* 00 Agent - (25G) Complete the game on Secret Agent Difficulty
* Bullet Proof - (5G) Complete a level having collected all the body armour
* Sprinter - (30G) Complete the game from start to finish in less than an hour
* Slapper - (10G) Complete a level without firing a shot and having killed 5 guards
* Agent - (5G) Complete a level on any difficulty
* Bullet Shy - (20G) Complete a level without getting hit.
* Secret Agent - (15G) Complete the game on Agent difficulty
* License to Kill - (10G) Complete any level having killed more than 50 guards.
* Dual Wield - (5G) Dual wield any weapon.
* Munitions Expert - (15G) Complete a level having hit enemies with more than 300 shots.
* 007 - (40G) Complete the game on 00 Agent difficulty.

I find it intersting that that was cancelled. Why? I remember the reason was something like Nintendo stepping in... which makes no sense as we already have an N64 game Banjo coming... Wouldn't they just need the Bond license and they'd be off?

I may be wrong, but it was my understanding that Nintendo published GoldenEye, while Rare published the Banjo games.

Killer Instinct 1 please...

There was a huge thread a couple months back and I seem to remember the consensus being that Nintendo shot down letting MS release the XBLA 007 because if Goldeneye were ever released on Virtual Console it would appear inferior (ROM dump vs new graphics, achivements, online play. Both for the same price). Nintendo basically stonewalled MS out of releasing it.

Battlefield 1943 Confirmed
Downloadable game takes the action back to WWII.
by Martin Robinson, IGN UK

UK, February 5, 2009 - EA has confirmed the existence of Battlefield 1943, revealing that the game will be a multiplayer affair for Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and PC that's due this summer.

News broke earlier today that a new Battlefield game would be breaking cover at the New York Comic Convention – and an official statement confirms its existence, stating that Battlefield 1943 will be a downloadable multiplayer instalment to DICE's series.

Battlefield 1943 will be using the Frostbite engine that debuted in last year's Battlefield: Bad Company, and will be set in the Pacific arena. 24 players can fight over three maps – Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima.

"Battlefield 1943 is a new take on a blast from the past classic coming to life with brand new technology that we're eager to get into players hands," said DICE's Karl Magnus Troedsson. The game is indeed on show at the New York Comic Convention, so expect more details soon.

EA also officially confirmed the sequel to Battlefield: Bad Company that CEO John Riccitiello announced earlier this week, revealing that it will take in "snowy mountaintops, dense jungles and dusty villages". The first screen was also released for the game, showing off the aforementioned snowy mountaintop but otherwise giving little away.

Shard, Battlefield 1943 and the sequel to Bad Company are both full retail Xbox Live games, not Xbox Live Arcade games... sorry to rain on the parade...

EDITED: "News broke earlier today that a new Battlefield game would be breaking cover at the New York Comic Convention – and an official statement confirms its existence, stating that Battlefield 1943 will be a downloadable multiplayer instalment to DICE's series."

Now I am confused. I thought it was a disc based game, but downloadable? Could it be for XBLA?

The 30th anniversary celebration of “The Warriors” will see the launch of an Xbox Live Arcade game based on the cult classic movie. The game comes from publisher Paramount Digital Entertainment and development studio CTXM, creators of XBLA titles “Heavy Weapon” and “Feeding Frenzy.” (No, Rockstar Games, developers of the 2005 “Warriors” game are not involved.)

The game looks to feature the movie’s key gangs, such as the Warriors and Baseball Furies, in a classic beat-em-up format.

“The Warriors” anniversary will also see the release of a comic book series from Dabel Bros., and, according to a Paramount rep, “other products and entertainment.”

The downloadable game is slated for a mid-summer release.

I must say... I hadn't gone on an XBLA spending spree in months, and I recently picked up The Maw and Kingdom For Keflings and they're both AMAZING! I had no idea Keflings was so freaking good.. wow.. and The Maw is also amazing.. rock out.

Whoa - BF:1943 really is a downloadable? Good move DICE!

I really can't stand WWII-era games but BF:1942 was always the exception, and I'll definitely keep an eye out for 1943...

Looking forward to a demo and release date/price point for 1943. Like others have already said, 1942 was a lot of fun and had an amazing demo. Let's hope 1943 can bring us the same experience again.
