At least we still have Outrun to look forward to.

i was looking forward to lode runner, have to say that at 1200 though its not the sort of game i would pick up. unless the demo blows me away of course.

Lode Runner is really fully featured. 220 levels, Journey Mode, Cooperative mode, survival modes, puzzle mode, and a level editor. I mean for $15 the game will keep you going for quite a while. While I love Outrun Arcade on XBLA, it;s not exactly filled with content - but is very replayable as each game essentially runs you about 5 minutes, with the "full" mode taking 15 or so.

I'm going to buy them anyhow, but it's difficult as I have very little time for them. I'm buying Lode Runner KNOWING that I won't have the time to actually finish the game. That's fucked.

with the exception of castle crashers i have pretty much only played xbla games for a short period after i buy them and then never play them again. im sure its worth 1200, im just not willing to pay that much for it unless it really wows me.

yeah same :(

I dunno why, xbla titles never get that much time from me. Usually because I have a big title like SFIV consuming my life I guess. God that game is crack.

The last couple months of Live Arcade pricing have really blown my mind. Games like Death Tank, and the Hasbro games, and now Puzzle Quest, Flock, and Lode Runner. Not to mention Watchmen and that NCAA game. I am someone who has purchased over 100 Live Arcade games, and I cannot justify buying more then one or even two of these recent releases. But I would probably buy all of them at 800 points each. I just think this is horrible decision making. If you look at the legs of the higher priced games, outside of Castle Crashers, Lumines, Penny Arcade Episode 1, there is little longterm legs in such pricing. And you cannot even hope to build an online community with that sort of pricing unless there is a ton of hype going in, which none of these games have. It is sad to see because a lot of these games look great. What a cluster fuck of stupidity.

I look at something like Worms as an example of this sort of pricing. I think it has probably sold over 200K maybe 300K at 10 dollars a pop. I doubt it would have sold 50K at 15, and that is what surprises me about this pricing. I think 10 dollars is an impulse buy, but 15 or 20, you are asking the consumer to buy your arcade game over a 360 greatest hits, or an XBOX original like Halo, Splinter Cell 3, or Fable, or even a GTA4 The Lost and the Damned. Very few live Arcade Games have the marketing and hype to perpetuate that sort of choice in their favor.

Pfft, if you play any game for more than 2 weeks you are wasting your time.

<sigh> So they really are charging $20 for a worse version of Puzzle Quest.
Galactrix DS is $20 at TRU this week, and might qualify for a buy 1 get 1 50% deal on Friday/Sat. Guess what XBLA game I'm not buying?

when i buy an xbla game and dont get much out of it i really feel burned too.

sure on the scale of game prices they are all pretty cheap but im the sort who buys a game, plays it till its no more fun then except in rare cases sells it off not long after.

with no means to get any money back on downloadable games i am becoming much more conservative with what i buy.

recently i bought flower and death tank for example and havent played either for more than half an hour (and have no real desire to go back to either).

i wish i could gift this stuff if nothing else, id like someone to get some joy out of it if i cant and they could gift me something. not share but completely transfer the rights.

1200 seems like the standard price now. Hilarious how this was to be expected when Braid came out.

lll download the Flock trial but really got no interest at 1200

That would be ignoring the recent releases in the past few months like Peggle, Crystal Defenders, The Maw, 3 on 2 NHL Arcade, Exit 2, Uno Rush and The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai which all came out at the bog standard 800 Points.

Shard, any word on the 3rd Maw DLC level? Could you email Twisted Pixel and ask them? I already did and the fuckers didnt even have the courtesy to reply. It was a really genuine letter with praise and indication of my love for the Maw, and they couldnt find the time to reply.

Anyway

I been waiting on that third DLC level myself, I am refusing to launch the game without it.

lol nice.

Theres something just totally relaxing, satisfying and enjoyable about that game.

Rlan Im not worried about missing it, Im just impatient. This week marks 4wks since DLC2 (or maybe 3). I guess I should just not worry since theres good games out this week.

Well it'd be stupid to release anything else this week anyhow - with Penny Arcade cheap, Flock and Galactrix out, even fewer people would buy it.

Ya never know, DLC packs have a habit of sneaking out on release date, like that Meteos Wars pack. Though The Maw DLC usually gets a fair amount of coverage.

Despite the coverage level I still say Microsoft are FUCKING MORONS for not implementing a feature which allows you to subscribe to DLC feed for any game that you purchase. DLC gets released? No problem - you find a message waiting for you on the dashboard.

I honestly believe that would bump up sales for certain games and DLC packs CONSIDERABLY.

It's developers' fault. Harmonix thought about it BEFORE releasing the game.

Man FLOCK looks awesome. Just checked out some vids and screens.... basically the perfect XBLA puzzle game is what it looks like. I just hope the puzzles are challenging enough.

Great graphics too.

Here are the games I've purchased at 1200 MS Points:

- Castle Crashers (not worth it)
- Braid (worth it)
- Puzzle Quest (not worth it)
- Lumines Live! (worth it)

50/50 success ratio for me. 800 points really is the sweet spot for me and both PQ and CC would have been worth it for 800 points. If Peggle can come in at 800 points then most games can too. Looks like I'll be buying far fewer titles from XBLA if 1200 MS Points is the new standard, and that's a darn shame.

I got Lumines Live when it was 1200. That was in 06.

I got Castle Crashers, SF2HD, and R-Type @ 1200. Will buy VO:OT and OutRun @ 1200.

Castle Crashers and Braid set the bar at 1200. Because people bought those in droves, they realized a nice title at that price will sell. Games like SF2HD, R-Type, Lode Runner and Death Tank being that price means they are just raping the hardcore fans who would buy it at any price.

Whatever, doesn't matter to me. The only games I want on the service are all worth 1600 points to me. Metal Slug 7, KOF 98, VO:OT and OutRun.

The Maw's 3rd DLC level is out end of April. There's an interview somewhere that they did shortly after DLC2 where they say DLC3 is late April.

I wonder if the new Worms game will be 1200, or 1600. It's definitely one or the other. The new "1.5" Worms on PSN is $13.
I think you answered your own question. :P

If they had the audacity to charge $13 for Worms HD 1.1, then you can bet your life the full sequel will be 1200. I don't think they'd dare charge 1600. Team 17 have a little bit of common sense.

Microsoft, however...

I have been waiting for Lode Runner for over a year now. You bet your ass I will getting this day one.

I paid $30 for both Worms 2 and Worms: Armageddon on the PC and I considered that price a bargain for all the play time I got out of those two titles. I'm getting sick of Team 17 rehashing the same game over and over though. I would rather see a sequel to Warheads at this point.

Well they are working on Alien Breed XBLA, so you have something to look forward to.

Team17 recently released the latest Leisure Suit Larry game. It might be better if they kept to the smaller downloadable games.

I bought all 4 at the same price and I have spent a lot of time on those 4, I still need to get back to braid though. I say they were worth it, but straying away from that 800 point price really make you think about what you're getting yourself into.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/04/amazoncom-now-sells-xbox-live-games-for-cash.ars

Buying Microsoft Points on Xbox Live can be a frustrating experience. You can get $6.25 worth, or $12.50 worth, or even $25 and $62.50 worth... but you can never buy as many as you need for a $5 game. That means you're always left with points left over, which means you buy more points to buy more games to still have overlap. Today, Amazon has launched a new service allowing you to buy Xbox Live Arcade games from it. The big news? The games are sold for their actual cost.

It's live right now. You can buy a $10 game for $10. You don't have to worry about points, or how many points to pick up—you simply buy the game. Amazon then gives you a code to download the game, or to give to a friend. After that, you download the game as usual.

It's still convenient, since you can buy from your home; the only difference is the whole garbage aspect of Microsoft points has been thrown out the window. No more buying points you don't need, no more converting points to cash—you just pay the dollar amount. It's liberating!

I'm interested in your response: is this a service you think you'll use, or am I making too big of a deal of the points issue?

http://www.gamerbytes.com/2009/04/fatal_fury_mark_of_the_wolves.php

Here's a strange one for you - the Korean Games Rating Board has revealed that Garou: Mark Of The Wolves, known stateside as Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves, has been rated by Microsoft of Korea, meaning that it should be bound for the Xbox Live Arcade.

Released in 1999 for the Arcades and later on the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2, Mark Of The Wolves was the very last title in the Fatal Fury line of games. For its time it was considered to be a pinnacle title, receiving excellent reviews all around.

The game was also one of the last released for the Neo Geo system, and pushed the Neo Geo's graphic capabilities to its limits. SNK have already released Fatal Fury Special on the Xbox Live Arcade and are planning to release King of Fighters '98: Ultimate Match this year, and with the addition of the rumored Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, it looks like it might be a resurgence of fighting games is on our hands. Possibly too many, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

Now I just need to find me one of those Capcom Fight Pads.

This is funny, the exact opposite is true for me. Castle Crashers and Puzzle Quest were worth it while Braid and Lumines were not. We have polar opposite tastes in games.

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/19334/Space-Invaders-Extreme-Visualizer-Video-and-Screens/

Taito and Backbone Entertainment have released new video and screenshots showing various examples of the colorful and synthetically organic visualizer backgrounds in Taito's upcoming Space Invaders Extreme for Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Created by Jeff Minter (Llama Soft) -- known for games like Tempest 2000, Space Giraffe, Gridrunner, and more -- the dynamic visualizers are synchronized with music and gameplay, and increase in intensity and saturation as the invaders speed up or change formations. In keeping with the storyline of the game, the visualizer backgrounds are abstract representations of the Space Invader invasion from outer space (Universe) to Earth, from landing (Nature) to Tokyo day and night.

If the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine is accurate, OutRun Online Arcade will be priced at 800 points. I was expecting it to be 1200, so this is good news.

BTW, they gave the game a 5.5, complained about seeing it all before. Fuck them, I have OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast, I'm still getting OROA anyways... :D

Awesome post except you need to fix some of those lines.

Ura's EDIT: Good God man, I take it back. You don't have Heavy Weapon up there, which is by far the best XBLA. BY FAR.

You know, are they actually going fucking do something with Arcade hits? I don't actually think I've seen any new ones added since I got an Xbox :lol

Excuse my ignorance but what do you mean? There was a sub-section of actual games from the Arcade on the original Xbox?

Yeah, I'm not touching that BBCode anymore. Quote it if you want to see what it would look like if a word processor threw up.

The biggest problem with that list is that it's missing a lot of the new titles. I enjoyed Death Tank and Dishwasher Dead Samurai quite a bit. I also can't wait for the upcoming Virtual On and Rocket Riot. I have a feeling that summer will be pretty hot for XBLA.

edit: Ok, I went ahead and updated the list.

It's very much worth downloading at least the demo. I've always been shocked by how much content the demo allows you to experience (I haven't bought the game, but I've probably played it for a good 1:30
