Watchmen: The End is Nigh - Part 2

Developed by Deadline Games A/S, Watchmen: The End is Nigh is a hardcore mature action brawler featuring bloody visceral combat in settings which are reminiscent of the film. Watchmen: The End is Nigh Part 1 takes place more than a decade before the film’s main story, delving into the partnership of urban vigilantes Rorschach and Nite Owl before the hero-banning Keene Act. In Part 2, the duo team up again as Rorschach contacts Nite Owl to help solve the case of a missing girl, Violet Greene.

Patrick Wilson and Jackie Earle Haley, stars of the Watchmen film, also lend their voices to the respective roles of Nite Owl and Rorschach in both episodes of Watchmen: The End is Nigh. Both Rorschach and Nite Owl are playable characters and each features distinct combat abilities, as well as a collection of each of their own unique finishing moves — such as Rorschach’s Rage and the technical prowess of Nite Owl’s Owlsuit.

Watchmen: The End is Nigh features a split screen co-op multiplayer option in addition to a single-player experience with an A.I. partner. Staying true to the tone of the film on which it’s based, Watchmen: The End is Nigh features stunning graphics in moody settings mixed with brutal combat. Players can take on as many as twenty enemies at the same time in bloody, street-fighting gameplay action. The game contains nine chapters, built around events referenced in the film, allowing for hours of intense gameplay.

Providing Watchmen fans with a variety of purchase options, the game will be offered in the following formats.

* Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience is an innovative, retail Blu-ray Hi-Def game and film hybrid which will include Watchmen: The End is Nigh Parts 1 and 2 and the Watchmen: Director’s Cut on Blu-ray. This new cut of the action-packed blockbuster includes an additional 25 minutes of footage not seen in theaters only available on Blu-ray and DVD. The two-disc collectible set will also feature exclusive artwork in a premium package. The game will be playable on the PS3 which can also play the Blu-ray disc of Watchmen: Director’s Cut.
* Watchmen: The End is Nigh Parts 1 and 2 will now be available for the first time as a single game available for the Xbox 360.
* Watchmen: The End is Nigh Part 2 will be available for download on Xbox LIVE, PlayStation Network and PC in July 2009.

Watchmen: The End is Nigh Part 1 was released in March 2009 as a downloadable game for Xbox Live Arcade, PC via download and on the PlayStation Network.

Le Tour De France 2009 Officially On Its Way To XBLA

Back in September we revealed that the rating for Le Tour De France 2009 was on its way to the Xbox Live Arcade. It's safe to say that the game didn't come out on time, but now the official website has been revealed, and Le Tour De France is sporting a new date.

Tour de France 2009 is a console version of Pro Cycling Manager, a long running PC title where you give orders to your team during the Tour De France legs. You can also take direct control of your cyclists during time-attack phases and will be able to compete against 3 others online through Xbox Live.

While it may not be the most amazing and fantastical game for consoles - it's something different, and while it may not be for the American audience, Tour De France is huge in Europe and many other places in the world, it could surprise us all.

We assume Le Tour De France 2009 is set to come out this year, so if you're a fan of the most popular bicycle race in the world, keep a look out for it soon.

Encleverment Experiment Still On Its Way To XBLA

Over the past few months we've seen Blitz Games' 5 downloadable titles slowly find publishers - Droplitz was picked up by Atlus for XBLA and PSN, and Buccaneer was released for PC. Now we know that Encleverment Experiment is still on its way, now that it has been rated by the German USK rating board.

From what I can tell the game, or at least the concept, was developed by Mere Mortals. It's a puzzle-party style game in the mold of cartoons from the 50's and 60's which can use standard controllers or the Scene It? Big button controllers. You can check out a new video of the game in action here.

Previous attempts at this style, such as Wits & Wagers and Rocky & Bullwinkle, have not done so well. Whether this game can do better is still up in the air. From this article it sounds like the game is finished, so look out for it in the coming months.

First Trailer Of Raskulls Races Through Puzzle Blocks

Halfbrick Studios have been throwing character profiles for Raskulls at us for a while - but what exactly is Raskulls? Now all is revealed in this brand new trailer.

Raskulls is a side scrolling platformer where you race against other opponents to the end of the level - but there are numerous obstacles in your way. The trailer shows tons of different blocks shapes that you must destroy in order to get past them -- if you've ever played Mr. Driller you'll see some very similar play mechanics in tow here.

There are also blocks which have different attributes attached to them, like jello blocks that remind me of some of my favourite levels in Super Mario Land 2 (odd reference, I know). While the game is very much a race instead of a standard platformer, it still looks like a ton of fun, and better than most other platformer racers I've played -- I'm looking at you, Sonic Rivals.

http://www.gamerbytes.com/2009/06/e3_catchup_fret_nice_ragdoll_r.php

3 Catchup: Fret Nice - Ragdoll Rockin' Platformer

From the makers of Puzzlegeddon comes a game that's the complete opposite - Fret Nice is a sidescrolling platformer with the ability to alter the music at any time.

The style of the game is really something else - just watch the trailer. Continue reading for the press release.

"FRET NICE™ harmonizes the unity between music and the 2D platformer. As you control your character through the artful stages, you play the game as if it were a jammin’ rock song. Rock out by blasting enemies with riff combos and creating your own soundtracks with each “strum” of a chord. Each time a stage is repeated, you will have an ever-changing experience.

STORY:
The Vibrant Chordblasters have been touring the world and spreading their unique style of music, which constantly has won over new fans. That is, until it gets into the ears of the Hair Bängers. They are vicious hard rocking people who, upon hearing the new type of music, go on an outrageous rampage in disgust, invading the whole world trying to spread their own heavy metal music and heavy metal hair wherever they go. With the whole world blaming the Vibrant Chordblasters for angering the Hair Bängers, the band has no other choice but to chase all of the Hair Bängers back to Heavy Metal Kingdom using the most powerful weapon in the world... Rock'n'roll!

FEATURES:

Audio Dynamics: Notes you play in Riff Combos are relative to the current key of the stages’ songs, allowing for user-generated audio-tastic soundtracks.
Riff Combos: When a note is played in the air, a Riff Combo will be activated to help defeat enemies.
Facial Attribute System: A fun and visual way to interpret riff combos. For example, if there are three eyes and two tentacles on an enemy, you have to “strum” three of the same notes and two same other note in the riff combo.
Cooperative Play: Play cooperatively with a friend (locally or over network) to clear stage levels and compete with each other for high scores. The catch is that you are connected by an instrument cord, preventing both of you from getting too far from each other on a shared screen.

E3 Catchup - Tecmo Reveal Puzzlegeddon Is Coming To Xbox 360 and PS3

Being at E3 was hard work, but the worst part was there just wasn't enough time in the day to check out the games and write about them, so several games fell through the cracks. One such title was Puzzlegeddon, a multiplayer puzzle-strategy game from Swedish developer Pieces Interactive coming to Xbox Live Arcade and (possibly) the PlayStation Network courtesy of Tecmo.

It's similar to PopCap's Chuzzle, where you move rows of colored blocks vertically and diagonally to create combos, however instead of just doing this for points you are obtaining different resources with each color, which in turn allow you to attack or defend yourself against one of 6 different enemies that are attacking you from across the globe.

The game was released back in 2007 for PC and got a lot of good buzz. Even the lowest review, from Eurogamer, cites its low score for a lack of online players, something that will easily be fixed with the XBLA and PSN versions.

In a roundabout way this game has been announced for the PlayStation Network, but as Tecmo mentions in this trailer it has not been concept approved for PSN, so there is a chance that it won't come out on the platform. More than likely it will come to the platform, so don't worry too much.

Just bumping this with the latest update on XBLA Marketplace issues. Still down at the moment though:

Stomping out issues one by one

The graveyard shift has been investigating and triaging issues all night – thanks for your reports! We’re working our way though the list and resolving them as quickly as we can.

I want to let you know that we are absolutely aware of the Marketplace issues that people are reporting and that’s at the top of our list. If you’re not aware, we have a Support page that we keep updated when we run into issues.

If you’re looking to download today’s XBLA releases (M: TG, Sam & Max, and Rocket Riot), Big Surf Island, or other recent pieces of content hang in there. I’ll let you know as soon as we have those problems resolve

Been looking at Ebay(Cag!) for deals on XBLA goods

This seller here, Sells points of 4k for 30$. Its 38.99 but if you make an offer for 30. He accepts it. I've bought 2 codes from him so far and both worked. 8k Space bucks at 40% off. Makes all those 15$ games under 10 ^_^

The 2nd seller actually sells game codes normally from 30-40% off. I've got both SOTN and Peggle from him. Bit slow but it was worth it.

Just thought I share the love with gaf

I see Phantasy Star II is out on XBLA. I like JRPG but got into them late. Is Phantasy Star II worth buying?

Speaking of this game, I don't see it on XBLA anymore. Either I'm blind or it disappeared (and maybe the other 5 sega games that were with it).

I've been out of town for the past week. I just came back and want to download Shinobi and Gunstar Heroes, and they are nowhere to be found on XBLM or marketplace.xbox.com. I know the maintenance issues from Tuesday caused them to disappear, but allegedly they have been resolved now. Unfortunately, all those Sega games are still missing. Anyone know when they will be back?

The Sega games are back up (at least in the UK), but you have to choose Arcade>Browse All>Popularity and then scroll to the bottom of the list, might take a few hours (or might be up as soon as I post this) before you can find them normally...

Rocket Riot is awesome, but the online is dead, created a lobby and waited for 10 minutes and nobody showed up...

I've been looking forward to Rocket Riot. Was ready to play it last night. By the time marketplace got fixed I was in bed. Like many others I'm at work now and will download it as soon as I get home tonight. I'm sure the community will expand greatly in the next 12-24 hours.

http://www.destructoid.com/choplifter-to-be-revived-we-re-hoping-it-looks-like-airwolf-136683.phtml

Do you remember Choplifter? If you don't, my Airwolf joke will also be lost on you. I may be dating myself, but I played the sh*t out of Choplifter on my Commodore 64 back in the day. The 1980s helicopter shoot-and-rescue game may be making a comeback now, judging by a recent trademark filing.

Developer inXile Entertainment filed a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the title Choplifter, according to GameSpot. In that filing, the game was marked for "downloadable electronic games via the Internet and wireless devices," which may point to a possible Xbox Live Arcade or PlayStation Network title, or maybe an iPhone game.

GameSpot says that inXile also did some other retro remakes, including a retooling of The Bard's Tale and the in-production Hei$t, which is scheduled to drop this fall.

Please tell me that some of you also enjoyed the classic Choplifter. If so, what would you look for in a remake? I wouldn't care if they didn't change a thing.

Is Rocket Riot actually a good game or is it just more GAF-hype?? I had a short run with the demo this afternoon and I wasn't exactly blown away. Do you really shoot by clicking the right stick or am I missing something?

You hold the right stick in any direction (and freely move it so long as it's the outer part), and you will shoot when you let go.

The two reviews I've seen both point to it being pretty good (A 90 and an 85).

How do you buy from a classified ad? I'm not seeing the "buy now" option anywhere.

THanks for the heads up!

Classified ad? The link in the post I quoted directs you to the seller's listing of auctions, just click on one and Buy it Now will be an option.

I saw the price for Sam and Max. Wow! First time I've ever been shocked by a XBLA price. Is this game worth it? I've always been curious about the series, but if it's like 5 episodes or something it's going to wind up being an incredibly expensive group of games.

Anyone know?

Whoa, wait. I just found the Sam and Max thread. Is that price for the whole season? All 6 episodes? If so then that is amazing.

Yeah it's the entire season for $20. I wish I didn't buy it on Steam >_< I wanna play on my 360.

Nice :)

Does anyone know if these codes work for non-US accounts? (I have an Australian account)

Nice to see KoF98 actually is coming out in 09.

Hopefully Garou netcode will be better than SS2, but I doubt it. Not to say SS2 has bad netcode, but SF2, SF4 and VF5 have pretty much set a new standard (for official releases anyway).

Garou: Mark Of The Wolves Dated For Japan

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/06/garou-mark-of-the-wolves-dated-for-japan/

By Brian Ashcraft on June 19, 2009 at 10:00 PM

SNK’s arcade fighting Garou: Mark of the Wolves is coming to Xbox LIVE — Japan is getting it June 24 for 800 Microsoft Points.

The game was originally released in Japan back in 1999 and in the U.S. as Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves. It’s the final Fatal Fury title.

The LIVE version will feature online matching for that versus arcade experience.

I'm pretty sure, though not positive, that all codes for points, xbla games, and xbl gold are all region free.

I've never tested it myself, but I've read a lot to the contrary. You can get JPN points from import sites though.

What board games are known to be in development for XBLA? Also, is there any plans to actually release Cities and Knights for Catan?

ESRB Watch:

Madballs in…Babo:Invasion

Platform: Windows PC, Xbox 360

Rating: Everyone 10+

Content descriptors: Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence

Rating summary: This is a third-person shooter in which players guide a rolling eye ball through ruins, volcanoes, ice shelves, and other maze-like environments. Viewed from an overhead perspective, players fire rockets, shoot lasers, and throw grenades at small robots and other ball-shaped creatures. While most aspects of the game are "cartoony" and irreverent (e.g., confetti effects, "splatt" and "doh" sounds to indicate damage, dialogue such as "It's always fun until someone loses an eye."), the combat can sometimes get intense. Heavy gunfire and realistic, fiery explosions are common, and defeated enemies often leave green, orange, or pink "paint" splotches on the ground.

Tower Bloxx Deluxe™

Platform: Xbox 360

Rating: Everyone

Content descriptors: No Descriptors

Rating summary: This is a puzzle game in which players stack pieces of a tower, one at a time, to create the tallest building possible. As players' creations grow taller, misaligned pieces cause the building to become unwieldy and sway back and forth.

Trials HD

Platform: Xbox 360

Rating: Teen

Content descriptors: Mild Blood, Mild Violence

Rating summary: Players can ride motorcycles through obstacle courses in this racing/stunt game set in an abandoned factory. Some courses contain wide gaps, explosives, and other hazardous obstacles that can propel riders off their bikes. Players often get knocked forcefully to the ground or flail in the air (i.e., rag-doll physics) before landing. Groans and bone-cracking sounds can often be heard, and brief splotches of blood are occasionally depicted when riders hit the ground. While the majority of the game focuses on completing the obstacle course with as few faults as possible, a "Crash" mode awards players for breaking multiple bones.

BUST-A-MOVE Live!

Platform: Xbox 360

Rating: Everyone

Content descriptors: No Descriptors

Rating summary: This is a puzzle game in which players must line up a device and shoot out bubbles in an attempt to match three or more same-colored bubbles. Players' goal is to clear the entire play area by bursting these matching bubble groups.
